Psalms 17:1A Prayer of David. Hear the right, O LORD, attend to my cry, give ear to my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.<A Prayer. Of David.> Let my cause come to your ears, O Lord, give attention to my cry; give ear to my prayer which goes not out from false lips.Hear, Yahweh, my righteous plea; Give ear to my prayer, that doesn't go out of deceitful lips.Unto the end, for David the servant of the Lord, who spoke to the Lord the words of this canticle, in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hands of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. [2 Kings 22.]
Psalms 17:2Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thy eyes behold the things that are equal.Be my judge; for your eyes see what is right.Let my sentence come forth from your presence; Let your eyes look on equity.I will love thee, O Lord, my strength:
Psalms 17:3Thou hast proved my heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. You have put my heart to the test, searching me in the night; you have put me to the test and seen no evil purpose in me; I will keep my mouth from sin.You have proved my heart; you have visited me in the night; You have tried me, and found nothing; I have resolved that my mouth shall not disobey. The Lord is my firmament, my refuge, and my deliverer. My God is my helper, and in him will I put my trust. My protector and the horn of my salvation, and my support.
Psalms 17:4Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer. As for the works of men, by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent. As for the works of men, by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent.Praising I will call upon the Lord: and I shall be saved from my enemies.
Psalms 17:5Uphold my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not.I have kept my feet in your ways, my steps have not been turned away.My steps have held fast to your paths, My feet have not slipped. The sorrows of death surrounded me: and the torrents of iniquity troubled me.
Psalms 17:6I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thy ear to me, and hear my speech. My cry has gone up to you, for you will give me an answer, O God: let your ear be turned to me, and give attention to my words.I have called on you, for you will answer me, God: Turn your ear to me. Hear my speech. The sorrows of hell encompassed me: and the snares of death prevented me.
Psalms 17:7Show thy wonderful loving-kindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them who put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.Make clear the wonder of your mercy, O saviour of those who put their faith in your right hand, from those who come out against them.Show your marvelous lovingkindness, You who save those who take refuge by your right hand from their enemies. In my affliction I called upon the Lord, and I cried to my God: And he heard my voice from his holy temple: and my cry before him came into his ears.
Psalms 17:8Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shade of thy wings.Keep me as the light of your eyes, covering me with the shade of your wings,Keep me as the apple of your eye; Hide me under the shadow of your wings,The earth shook and trembled: the foundations of the mountains were troubled and were moved, because he was angry with them.
Psalms 17:9From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who encompass me,From the evil-doers who are violent to me, and from those who are round me, desiring my death. From the wicked who oppress me, My deadly enemies, who compass me about. There went up a smoke in his wrath: and a fire flamed from his face: coals were kindled by it.
Psalms 17:10They are inclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly. They are shut up in their fat: with their mouths they say words of pride. They close up their callous hearts. With their mouth they speak proudly. He bowed the heavens, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.
Psalms 17:11They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth; They have made a circle round our steps: their eyes are fixed on us, forcing us down to the earth; They have now surrounded us in our steps. They set their eyes to cast us down to the earth. And he ascended upon the cherubim, and he flew; he flew upon the wings of the winds.
Psalms 17:12Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.Like a lion desiring its food, and like a young lion waiting in secret places. He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey, As it were a young lion lurking in secret places. And he made darkness his covert, his pavilion round about him: dark waters in the clouds of the air.
Psalms 17:13Arise, O LORD disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, who is thy sword:Up! Lord, come out against him, make him low, with your sword be my saviour from the evil-doer.Arise, Yahweh, Confront him, cast him down. Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword; At the brightness that was before him the clouds passed, hail and coals of fire.
Psalms 17:14From men who are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, who have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes. With your hand, O Lord, from men, even men of the world, whose heritage is in this life, and whom you make full with your secret wealth: they are full of children; after their death their offspring take the rest of their goods. From men by your hand, Yahweh, From men of the world, whose portion is in this life, Whose belly you fill with your treasure: They are satisfied with children, Leave the rest of their substance to their babes. And the Lord thundered from heaven, and the highest gave his voice: hail and coals of fire.
Psalms 17:15As for me, I shall behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness. As for me, I will see your face in righteousness: when I am awake it will be joy enough for me to see your form.As for me, I shall see your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with seeing your form. Psalm 18 For the Chief Musician. By David, the servant of Yahweh, who spoke to Yahweh the words of this song in the day that Yahweh delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. He said,And he sent forth his arrows, and he scattered them: he multiplied lightnings, and troubled them.
