| 1st-Timothy 6:1 | Let all who are under the yoke of slavery hold their own masters to be deserving of honour, so that the name of God and the Christian teaching may not be spoken against. | Let all who are servants under the yoke give all honour to their masters, so that no evil may be said against the name of God and his teaching. |
| 1st-Timothy 6:2 | And those who have believing masters should not be wanting in respect towards them because they are their brethren, but should serve them all the more willingly because those who profit by the faithful service rendered are believers and are friends. | And let those whose masters are of the faith have respect for them because they are brothers, working for them the more readily, because those who take part in the good work are of the faith and are dear. Give orders and teaching about these things. |
| 1st-Timothy 6:3 | So teach and exhort. If any one is a teacher of any other kind of doctrine, and refuses assent to wholesome instructions those of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that harmonizes with true godliness, | If any man gives different teaching, not in agreement with the true words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the teaching which is in agreement with true religion, |
| 1st-Timothy 6:4 | he is puffed up with pride and has no true knowledge, but is crazy over discussions and controversies about words which give rise to envy, quarrelling, revilings, ill-natured suspicions, | He has an over-high opinion of himself; being without knowledge, having only an unhealthy love of questionings and wars of words, from which come envy, fighting, cruel words, evil thoughts, |
| 1st-Timothy 6:5 | and persistent wranglings on the part of people whose intellects are disordered and they themselves blinded to all knowledge of the truth; who imagine that godliness means gain. | Bitter talk of men who, being evil in mind and dead to what is true, take the faith to be a way of making profit. |
| 1st-Timothy 6:6 | And godliness *is* gain, when associated with contentment; | But true faith, with peace of mind, is of great profit: |
| 1st-Timothy 6:7 | for we brought nothing into the world, nor can we carry anything out of it; | For we came into the world with nothing, and we are not able to take anything out; |
| 1st-Timothy 6:8 | and if we have food and clothing, with these we will be satisfied. | But if we have food and a roof over us, let that be enough. |
| 1st-Timothy 6:9 | But people who are determined to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many unwise and pernicious ways which sink mankind in destruction and ruin. | But those who have a desire for wealth are falling into danger, and are taken as in a net by a number of foolish and damaging desires, through which men are overtaken by death and destruction. |
| 1st-Timothy 6:10 | For from love of money all sorts of evils arise; and some have so hankered after money as to be led astray from the faith and be pierced through with countless sorrows. | For the love of money is a root of all evil: and some whose hearts were fixed on it have been turned away from the faith, and been wounded with unnumbered sorrows. |
| 1st-Timothy 6:11 | But you, O man of God, must flee from these things; and strive for uprightness, godliness, good faith, love, fortitude, and a forgiving temper. | But you, O man of God, keep yourself from these things, and go after righteousness, religion, faith, love, a quiet mind, gentle behaviour. |
| 1st-Timothy 6:12 | Exert all your strength in the honourable struggle for the faith; lay hold of the Life of the Ages, to which you were called, when you made your noble profession of faith before many witnesses. | Be fighting the good fight of the faith; take for yourself the life eternal, for which you were marked out, and of which you gave witness in the eyes of all. |
| 1st-Timothy 6:13 | I charge you as in the presence of God who gives life to all creatures, and of Christ Jesus who at the bar of Pontius Pilate made a noble profession of faith | I give you orders before God, the giver of life, and Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate gave witness to the faith, |
| 1st-Timothy 6:14 | that you keep God's commandments stainlessly and without reproach till the Appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. | To keep the word untouched by evil, clear from all shame, till the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ: |
| 1st-Timothy 6:15 | For, as its appointed time, this will be brought about by the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, | Which at the right time he will make clear, who is the eternal and only Ruler, King of kings, and Lord of lords; |
| 1st-Timothy 6:16 | who alone possesses immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, and whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be eternal honour and power! Amen. | Who only has life for ever, living in light to which no man may come near; whom no man has seen or is able to see: to whom be honour and power for ever. So be it. |
| 1st-Timothy 6:17 | Impress on those who are rich in the present age that they must not be haughty nor set their hopes on riches that unstable foundation but on God who provides us richly with all things for our enjoyment. | Give orders to those who have money and goods in this life, not to be lifted up in their minds, or to put their hope in the uncertain chances of wealth, but in God who gives us in full measure all things for our use; |
| 1st-Timothy 6:18 | They must be beneficent, rich in noble deeds, open-handed and liberal; | And to do good, having wealth in good works, being quick to give, taking part with one another; |
| 1st-Timothy 6:19 | storing up for themselves that which shall be a solid foundation for the future, that they may lay hold of the Life which is life indeed. | Making ready for themselves a safe place for the time to come, so that the true life may be theirs. |
| 1st-Timothy 6:20 | O Timothy, guard the truths entrusted to you, shunning irreligious and frivolous talk, and controversy with what is falsely called `knowledge'; | O Timothy, take good care of that which is given to you, turning away from the wrong and foolish talk and arguments of that knowledge which is falsely so named; |
| 1st-Timothy 6:21 | of which some have spoken boastfully in connexion with the true faith, and have erred. Grace be with you all. | Through which some, who gave their minds to it, have been turned away from the faith. Grace be with you. |
