1st-Timothy 3:1Faithful is the saying, "If any one is eager to have the oversight of a Church, he desires a noble work."The word [is] faithful: if any one aspires to exercise oversight, he desires a good work.A faithful saying: if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.This is a true saying, If a man desireth the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
1st-Timothy 3:2A minister then must be a man of irreproachable character, true to his one wife, temperate, sober-minded, well-behaved, hospitable to strangers, and with a gift for teaching;The overseer then must be irreproachable, husband of one wife, sober, discreet, decorous, hospitable, apt to teach;It behoveth therefore a bishop to be blameless, the husband of one wife, sober, prudent, of good behaviour, chaste, given to hospitality, a teacher,A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
1st-Timothy 3:3not a hard drinker nor given to blows; not selfish or quarrelsome or covetous;not given to excesses from wine, not a striker, but mild, not addicted to contention, not fond of money,Not given to wine, no striker, but modest, not quarrelsome, not covetous, butNot given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre, but patient; not a brawler, not covetous;
1st-Timothy 3:4but ruling his own household wisely and well, with children kept under control with true dignity.conducting his own house well, having [his] children in subjection with all gravity;One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all chastity.One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
1st-Timothy 3:5(If a man does not know how to rule his own household, how shall he have the Church of God given into his care?)(but if one does not know how to conduct his own house, how shall he take care of the assembly of God?)But if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?(For if a man knoweth not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
1st-Timothy 3:6He ought not to be a new convert, for fear he should be blinded with pride and come under the same condemnation as the Devil.not a novice, that he may not, being inflated, fall into [the] fault of the devil.Not a neophyte: lest being puffed up with pride, he fall into the judgment of the devil.Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
1st-Timothy 3:7It is needful also that he bear a good character with people outside the Church, lest he fall into reproach or a snare of the Devil.But it is necessary that he should have also a good testimony from those without, that he may fall not into reproach and [the] snare of the devil.Moreover he must have a good testimony of them who are without: lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.Moreover, he must have a good report of them who are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
1st-Timothy 3:8Deacons, in the same way, must be men of serious demeanour, not double-tongued, nor addicted to much wine, nor greedy of base gain,Ministers, in like manner, grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not seeking gain by base means,Deacons in like manner chaste, not double tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre:Likewise must the deacons be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre,
1st-Timothy 3:9but holding the secret truths of the faith with a clear conscience.holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.Holding the mystery of faith in a pure conscience.Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
1st-Timothy 3:10And they must also be well-tried men, and when found to be of unblemished character then let them serve as deacons.And let these be first proved, then let them minister, being without charge [against them].And let these also first be proved: and so let them minister, having no crime.And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
1st-Timothy 3:11Deaconesses, in the same way, must be sober-minded women, not slanderers, but in every way temperate and trustworthy.[The] women in like manner grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.The women in like manner chaste, not slanderers, but sober, faithful in all things.Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
1st-Timothy 3:12A deacon must be true to his one wife, and rule his children and his own household wisely and well.Let [the] ministers be husbands of one wife, conducting [their] children and their own houses well:Let deacons be the husbands of one wife: who rule well their children, and their own houses.Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children, and their own houses well.
1st-Timothy 3:13For those who have filled the deacon's office wisely and well, are already gaining for themselves an honourable standing, and are acquiring great freedom of speech in proclaiming the faith which rests on Christ Jesus.for those who shall have ministered well obtain for themselves a good degree, and much boldness in faith which [is] in Christ Jesus.For they that have ministered well, shall purchase to themselves a good degree, and much confidence in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.For they that have used the office of a deacon well, purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith, which is in Christ Jesus.
1st-Timothy 3:14All this I write to you, though I am hoping before long to come to see you.These things I write to thee, hoping to come to thee more quickly;These things I write to thee, hoping that I shall come to thee shortly.These things I write to thee, hoping to come to thee shortly:
1st-Timothy 3:15But, for fear I may be hindered, I now write, so that you may have rules to guide you in dealing with God's household. For this is what the Church of the ever-living God is, and it is the pillar and foundation-stone of the truth.but if I delay, in order that thou mayest know how one ought to conduct oneself in God's house, which is [the] assembly of [the] living God, [the] pillar and base of the truth.But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
1st-Timothy 3:16And, beyond controversy, great is the mystery of our religion that Christ appeared in human form, and His claims justified by the Spirit, was seen by angels and proclaimed among Gentile nations, was believed on in the world, and received up again into glory.And confessedly the mystery of piety is great. God has been manifested in flesh, has been justified in [the] Spirit, has appeared to angels, has been preached among [the] nations, has been believed on in [the] world, has been received up in glory.And evidently great is the mystery of godliness, which was manifested in the flesh, was justified in the spirit, appeared unto angels, hath been preached unto the Gentiles, is believed in the world, is taken up in glory.And without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached to the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
