Psalms 49:1Hear this, all you peoples. Listen, all you inhabitants of the world,Hear this, all ye peoples; Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world, {To the chief Musician. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.} Hear this, all ye peoples; give ear, all inhabitants of the world:To the Overseer. By sons of Korah. A Psalm. Hear this, all ye peoples, Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world.
Psalms 49:2Both low and high, Rich and poor together. Both low and high, Rich and poor together. Both men of low and men of high degree, rich and poor alike. Both low and high, together rich and needy.
Psalms 49:3My mouth will speak words of wisdom. My heart shall utter understanding. My mouth shall speak wisdom; And the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. My mouth shall speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding:My mouth speaketh wise things, And the meditations of my heart [are] things of understanding.
Psalms 49:4I will incline my ear to a proverb. I will open my riddle on the harp.I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp. I will incline mine ear to a parable, I will open my riddle upon the harp.I incline to a simile mine ear, I open with a harp my riddle:
Psalms 49:5Why should I fear in the days of evil, When iniquity at my heels surrounds me?Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, When iniquity at my heels compasseth me about? Wherefore should I fear in the days of adversity, [when] the iniquity of my supplanters encompasseth me?Why do I fear in days of evil? The iniquity of my supplanters doth compass me.
Psalms 49:6Those who trust in their wealth, And boast in the multitude of their richesThey that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; They depend upon their wealth, and boast themselves in the abundance of their riches. ...Those trusting on their wealth, And in the multitude of their riches, Do shew themselves foolish.
Psalms 49:7None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give God a ransom for him.None [of them] can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him; None can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him,A brother doth no one at all ransom, He doth not give to God his atonement.
Psalms 49:8For the redemption of their life is costly, No payment is ever enough,(For the redemption of their life is costly, And it faileth for ever;) (For the redemption of their soul is costly, and must be given up for ever,)And precious [is] the redemption of their soul, And it hath ceased to the age.
Psalms 49:9That he should live on forever, That he should not see corruption. That he should still live alway, That he should not see corruption. That he should still live perpetually, [and] not see corruption. And still he liveth for ever, He seeth not the pit.
Psalms 49:10For he sees that wise men die; Likewise the fool and the senseless perish, And leave their wealth to others. For he shall see it. Wise men die; The fool and the brutish alike perish, And leave their wealth to others. For he seeth that wise men die; all alike, the fool and the brutish perish, and they leave their wealth to others. For he seeth wise men die, Together the foolish and brutish perish, And have left to others their wealth.
Psalms 49:11Their inward thought is, that their houses endure forever, And their dwelling places to all generations. They call their lands after their own names.Their inward thought is, [that] their houses [shall continue] for ever, [And] their dwelling-places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names. Their inward thought is, that their houses are for ever, their dwelling-places from generation to generation: they call the lands after their own names.Their heart [is]: Their houses [are] to the age, Their tabernacles to all generations. They proclaimed their names over the lands.
Psalms 49:12But man, despite his riches, doesn't endure. He is like the animals that perish. But man [being] in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish. Nevertheless, man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish. And man in honour doth not remain, He hath been like the beasts, they have been cut off.
Psalms 49:13This is the destiny of those who are foolish, And of those who approve their sayings. Selah. This their way is their folly: Yet after them men approve their sayings. Selah This their way is their folly, yet they that come after them delight in their sayings. Selah. This their way [is] folly for them, And their posterity with their sayings are pleased. Selah.
Psalms 49:14They are appointed as a flock for Sheol. Death shall be their shepherd. The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning. Their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume, That there be no habitation for it.They are appointed as a flock for Sheol; Death shall be their shepherd; And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume, That there be no habitation for it. Like sheep are they laid in Sheol: Death feedeth on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their comeliness shall be for Sheol to consume, that there be no habitation for them.As sheep for Sheol they have set themselves, Death doth afflict them, And the upright rule over them in the morning, And their form [is] for consumption. Sheol [is] a dwelling for him.
Psalms 49:15But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, For he will receive me. Selah. But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol; For he will receive me. Selah But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol: for he will receive me. Selah.Only, God doth ransom my soul from the hand of Sheol, For He doth receive me. Selah.
Psalms 49:16Don't be afraid when a man is made rich, When the glory of his house is increased.Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, When the glory of his house is increased. Be not afraid when a man becometh rich, when the glory of his house is increased:Fear not, when one maketh wealth, When the honour of his house is abundant,
Psalms 49:17For when he dies he shall carry nothing away. His glory shall not descend after him.For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; His glory shall not descend after him. For when he dieth, he shall carry nothing away; his glory shall not descend after him.For at his death he receiveth nothing, His honour goeth not down after him.
Psalms 49:18Though while he lived he blessed his soul And men praise you when you do well for yourselfThough while he lived he blessed his soul (And men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself,) Though he blessed his soul in his lifetime, and men will praise thee when thou doest well to thyself,For his soul in his life he blesseth, (And they praise thee when thou dost well for thyself.)
Psalms 49:19He shall go to the generation of his fathers. They shall never see the light. He shall go to the generation of his fathers; They shall never see the light. It shall go to the generation of his fathers: they shall never see light. It cometh to the generation of his fathers, For ever they see not the light.
