| Psalms 73:1 | Surely God is good to Israel, To those who are pure in heart. | Surely God is good to Israel, [Even] to such as are pure in heart. | Understanding for Asaph. O God, why hast thou cast us off unto the end: why is thy wrath enkindled against the sheep of thy pasture? | {A Psalm of Asaph.} Truly God is good to Israel, to such as are of a pure heart. |
| Psalms 73:2 | But as for me, my feet were almost gone. My steps had nearly slipped. | But as for me, my feet were almost gone; My steps had well nigh slipped. | Remember thy congregation, which thou hast possessed from the beginning. The sceptre of thy inheritance which thou hast redeemed: mount Sion in which thou hast dwelt. | But as for me, my feet were almost gone, my steps had well nigh slipped; |
| Psalms 73:3 | For I was envious of the arrogant, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked. | For I was envious at the arrogant, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked. | Lift up thy hands against their pride unto the end; see what things the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary. | For I was envious at the arrogant, seeing the prosperity of the wicked. |
| Psalms 73:4 | For there are no struggles in their death, But their strength is firm. | For there are no pangs in their death; But their strength is firm. | And they that hate thee have made their boasts, in the midst of thy solemnity. They have set up their ensigns for signs, | For they have no pangs in their death, and their body is well nourished; |
| Psalms 73:5 | They are free from burdens of men, Neither are they plagued like other men. | They are not in trouble as [other] men; Neither are they plagued like [other] men. | and they knew not both in the going out and on the highest top. As with axes in a wood of trees, | They have not the hardships of mankind, neither are they plagued like [other] men: |
| Psalms 73:6 | Therefore pride is like a chain around their neck. Violence covers them like a garment. | Therefore pride is as a chain about their neck; Violence covereth them as a garment. | they have cut down at once the gates thereof, with axe and hatchet they have brought it down. | Therefore pride encompasseth them as a neck-chain, violence covereth them [as] a garment; |
| Psalms 73:7 | Their eyes bulge with fat. Their minds pass the limits of conceit. | Their eyes stand out with fatness: They have more than heart could wish. | They have set fire to thy sanctuary: they have defiled the dwelling place of thy name on the earth. | Their eyes stand out from fatness, they exceed the imaginations of their heart: |
| Psalms 73:8 | They scoff and speak with malice. In arrogance, they threaten oppression. | They scoff, and in wickedness utter oppression: They speak loftily. | They said in their heart, the whole kindred of them together: Let us abolish all the festival days of God from the land. | They mock and speak wickedly of oppression, they speak loftily: |
| Psalms 73:9 | They have set their mouth in the heavens. Their tongue walks through the earth. | They have set their mouth in the heavens, And their tongue walketh through the earth. | Our signs we have not seen, there is now no prophet: and he will know us no more. | They set their mouth in the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth. |
| Psalms 73:10 | Therefore their people return to them, And they drink up waters of abundance. | Therefore his people return hither: And waters of a full [cup] are drained by them. | How long, O God, shall the enemy reproach: is the adversary to provoke thy name for ever? | Therefore his people turn hither, and waters in fulness are wrung out to them. |
| Psalms 73:11 | They say, "How does God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?" | And they say, How doth God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High? | Why dost thou turn away thy hand: and thy right hand out of the midst of thy bosom for ever ? | And they say, How can ùGod know, and is there knowledge in the Most High? |
| Psalms 73:12 | Behold, these are the wicked. Being always at ease, they increase in riches. | Behold, these are the wicked; And, being alway at ease, they increase in riches. | But God is our king before ages: he hath wrought salvation in the midst of the earth. | Behold, these are the wicked, and they prosper in the world: they heap up riches. |
| Psalms 73:13 | Surely in vain I have cleansed my heart, And washed my hands in innocence, | Surely in vain have I cleansed my heart, And washed my hands in innocency; | Thou by thy strength didst make the sea firm: thou didst crush the heads of the dragons in the waters. | Truly have I purified my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency: |
| Psalms 73:14 | For all day long have I been plagued, And punished every morning. | For all the day long have I been plagued, And chastened every morning. | Thou hast broken the heads of the dragon: thou hast given him to be meat for the people of the Ethiopians. | For all the day have I been plagued, and chastened every morning. |
| Psalms 73:15 | If I had said, "I will speak thus;" Behold, I would have betrayed the generation of your children. | If I had said, I will speak thus; Behold, I had dealt treacherously with the generation of thy children. | Thou hast broken up the fountains and the torrents: thou hast dried up the Ethan rivers. | If I said, I will speak thus, behold, I should be faithless to the generation of thy children. |
| Psalms 73:16 | When I tried to understand this, It was too painful for me; | When I thought how I might know this, It was too painful for me; | Thine is the day, and thine is the night: thou hast made the morning light and the sun. | When I thought to be able to know this, it was a grievous task in mine eyes; |
| Psalms 73:17 | Until I entered God's sanctuary, And considered their latter end. | Until I went into the sanctuary of God, And considered their latter end. | Thou hast made all the borders of the earth: the summer and the spring were formed by thee. | Until I went into the sanctuaries of ùGod; [then] understood I their end. |
| Psalms 73:18 | Surely you set them in slippery places. You throw them down to destruction. | Surely thou settest them in slippery places: Thou castest them down to destruction. | Remember this, the enemy hath reproached the Lord: and a foolish people hath provoked thy name. | Truly thou settest them in slippery places, thou castest them down in ruins. |
| Psalms 73:19 | How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors. | How are they become a desolation in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. | Deliver not up to beasts the souls that confess to thee: and forget not to the end the souls of thy poor. | How are they suddenly made desolate! they pass away, consumed with terrors. |
| Psalms 73:20 | As a dream when one wakes up, So, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies. | As a dream when one awaketh, So, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou wilt despise their image. | Have regard to thy covenant: for they that are the obscure of the earth have been filled with dwellings of iniquity. | As a dream, when one awaketh, wilt thou, Lord, on arising despise their image. |
| Psalms 73:21 | For my soul was grieved. I was embittered in my heart. | For my soul was grieved, And I was pricked in my heart: | Let not the humble be turned away with confusion: the poor and needy shall praise thy name. | When my heart was in a ferment, and I was pricked in my reins, |
| Psalms 73:22 | I was so senseless and ignorant. I was a brute beast before you. | So brutish was I, and ignorant; I was [as] a beast before thee. | Arise, O God, judge thy own cause: remember thy reproaches with which the foolish man hath reproached thee all the day. | Then I was brutish and knew nothing; I was [as] a beast with thee. |
| Psalms 73:23 | Nevertheless, I am continually with you. You have held my right hand. | Nevertheless I am continually with thee: Thou hast holden my right hand. | Forget not the voices of thy enemies: the pride of them that hate thee ascendeth continually. | Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden my right hand; |
| Psalms 73:24 | You will guide me with your counsel, And afterward receive me to glory. | Thou wilt guide me with thy counsel, And afterward receive me to glory. | | Thou wilt guide me by thy counsel, and after the glory, thou wilt receive me. |
| Psalms 73:25 | Who do I have in heaven? There is no one on earth who I desire besides you. | Whom have I in heaven [but thee]? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee. | | Whom have I in the heavens? and there is none upon earth I desire beside thee. |
| Psalms 73:26 | My flesh and my heart fails, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. | My flesh and my heart faileth; [But] God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever. | | My flesh and my heart faileth: God is the rock of my heart and my portion for ever. |
| Psalms 73:27 | For, behold, those who are far from you shall perish. You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to you. | For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: Thou hast destroyed all them that play the harlot, [departing] from thee. | | For behold, they that are far from thee shall perish; thou destroyest every one that goeth a whoring from thee. |
| Psalms 73:28 | But it is good for me to come close to God. I have made the Lord Yahweh my refuge, That I may tell of all your works. Psalm 74 A contemplation by Asaph. | But it is good for me to draw near unto God: I have made the Lord Jehovah my refuge, That I may tell of all thy works. Psalm 74 Maschil of Asaph. | | But as for me, it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord Jehovah, that I may declare all thy works. |
