Proverbs 20:1Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler; Whoever is let astray by them is not wise.Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler; And whosoever erreth thereby is not wise.
Proverbs 20:2The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion: He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.The terror of a king is as the roaring of a lion: He that provoketh him to anger sinneth [against] his own life.
Proverbs 20:3It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife; But every fool will be quarreling.It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife; But every fool will be quarrelling.
Proverbs 20:4The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; Therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; Therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
Proverbs 20:5Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; But a man of understanding will draw it out.Counsel in the heart of man is [like] deep water; But a man of understanding will draw it out.
Proverbs 20:6Many men claim to be men of unfailing love, But who can find a faithful man?Most men will proclaim every one his own kindness; But a faithful man who can find?
Proverbs 20:7A righteous man who walks in his integrity, Blessed are his children after him.A righteous man that walketh in his integrity, Blessed are his children after him.
Proverbs 20:8A king who sits on the throne of judgment Scatters away all evil with his eyes.A king that sitteth on the throne of judgment Scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
Proverbs 20:9Who can say, "I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin?"Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
Proverbs 20:10Differing weights and differing measures, Both of them alike are an abomination to Yahweh.Diverse weights, and diverse measures, Both of them alike are an abomination to Jehovah.
Proverbs 20:11Even a child makes himself known by his doings, Whether his work is pure, and whether it is right.Even a child maketh himself known by his doings, Whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
Proverbs 20:12The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, Yahweh has made even both of them.The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, Jehovah hath made even both of them.
Proverbs 20:13Don't love sleep, lest you come to poverty; Open your eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread.Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; Open thine eyes, [and] thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
Proverbs 20:14"It's no good, it's no good," says the buyer; But when he is gone his way, then he boasts.It is bad, it is bad, saith the buyer; But when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
Proverbs 20:15There is gold and abundance of rubies; But the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel.There is gold, and abundance of rubies; But the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
Proverbs 20:16Take the garment of one who puts up collateral for a stranger; And hold him in pledge for a wayward woman.Take his garment that is surety for a stranger; And hold him in pledge [that is surety] for foreigners.
Proverbs 20:17Fraudulent food is sweet to a man, But afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel.Bread of falsehood is sweet to a man; But afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
Proverbs 20:18Plans are established by advice; By wise guidance you wage war!Every purpose is established by counsel; And by wise guidance make thou war.
Proverbs 20:19He who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets; Therefore don't keep company with him who opens wide his lips.He that goeth about as a tale-bearer revealeth secrets; Therefore company not with him that openeth wide his lips.
Proverbs 20:20Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.Whoso curseth his father or his mother, His lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.
Proverbs 20:21An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning, Won't be blessed in the end.An inheritance [may be] gotten hastily at the beginning; But the end thereof shall not be blessed.
Proverbs 20:22Don't say, "I will pay back evil." Wait for Yahweh, and he will save you.Say not thou, I will recompense evil: Wait for Jehovah, and he will save thee.
Proverbs 20:23Yahweh detests differing weights, And dishonest scales are not pleasing.Diverse weights are an abomination to Jehovah; And a false balance is not good.
Proverbs 20:24A man's steps are from Yahweh; How then can man understand his way?A man's goings are of Jehovah; How then can man understand his way?
Proverbs 20:25It is a snare to a man make a rash dedication, And later reconsider his vows.It is a snare to a man rashly to say, [It is] holy, And after vows to make inquiry.
Proverbs 20:26A wise king winnows out the wicked, And drives the threshing wheel over them.A wise king winnoweth the wicked, And bringeth the [threshing] -wheel over them.
Proverbs 20:27The spirit of man is Yahweh's lamp, Searching all his innermost parts.The spirit of man is the lamp of Jehovah, Searching all his innermost parts.
Proverbs 20:28Love and faithfulness keep the king safe. His throne is sustained by love.Kindness and truth preserve the king; And his throne is upholden by kindness.
Proverbs 20:29The glory of young men is their strength. The splendor of old men is their gray hair.The glory of young men is their strength; And the beauty of old men is the hoary head.
Proverbs 20:30Wounding blows cleanse away evil, And beatings purge the innermost parts.Stripes that wound cleanse away evil; And strokes [reach] the innermost parts.
