Psalms 44:1We have heard with our ears, God; Our fathers have told us, What work you did in their days, In the days of old.<To the chief music-maker. Of the sons of Korah Maschil.> It has come to our ears, O God, our fathers have given us the story, of the works which you did in their days, in the old times,We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us, What work thou didst in their days, In the days of old. Unto the end, for them that shall be changed, for the sons of Core, for understanding. A canticle for the Beloved.
Psalms 44:2You drove out the nations with your hand, But you planted them. You afflicted the peoples, But you spread them abroad.Uprooting the nations with your hand, and planting our fathers in their place; cutting down the nations, but increasing the growth of your people.Thou didst drive out the nations with thy hand; But them thou didst plant: Thou didst afflict the peoples; But them thou didst spread abroad. My heart hath uttered a good word I speak my works to the king; My tongue is the pen of a scrivener that writeth swiftly.
Psalms 44:3For they didn't get the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them; But your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your face, Because you were favorable to them.For they did not make the land theirs by their swords, and it was not their arms which kept them safe; but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your face, because you had pleasure in them.For they gat not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them; But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou wast favorable unto them. Thou art beautiful above the sons of men: grace is poured abroad in thy lips; therefore hath God blessed thee for ever
Psalms 44:4You are my King, God. Command victories for Jacob!You are my King and my God; ordering salvation for Jacob.Thou art my King, O God: Command deliverance for Jacob. Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O thou most mighty.
Psalms 44:5Through you, will we push down our adversaries. Through your name, will we tread them under who rise up against us.Through you will we overcome our haters; by your name will they be crushed under our feet who are violent against us.Through thee will we push down our adversaries: Through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. With thy comeliness and thy beauty set out, proceed prosperously, and reign. Because of truth and meekness and justice: and thy right hand shall conduct thee wonderfully.
Psalms 44:6For I will not trust in my bow, Neither shall my sword save me.I will not put faith in my bow, my sword will not be my salvation.For I will not trust in my bow, Neither shall my sword save me. Thy arrows are sharp: under thee shall people fall, into the hearts of the king's enemies.
Psalms 44:7But you have saved us from our adversaries, And have put them to shame who hate us.But it is you who have been our saviour from those who were against us, and have put to shame those who had hate for us.But thou hast saved us from our adversaries, And hast put them to shame that hate us. Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a sceptre of uprightness.
Psalms 44:8In God have we made our boast all day long, We will give thanks to your name forever. Selah.Our pride is in God at all times, to his name we give praise for ever. (Selah.)In God have we made our boast all the day long, And we will give thanks unto thy name for ever. Selah Thou hast loved justice, and hated iniquity: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
Psalms 44:9But now you rejected us, and brought us to dishonor, And don't go out with our armies.But now you have sent us away from you, and put us to shame; you do not go out with our armies.But now thou hast cast [us] off, and brought us to dishonor, And goest not forth with our hosts. Myrrh and stacte and cassia perfume thy garments, from the ivory houses: out of which
Psalms 44:10You make us turn back from the adversary. Those who hate us take spoil for themselves.Because of this we are turned back by the attacker: those who have hate for us take our goods for themselves.Thou makest us to turn back from the adversary; And they that hate us take spoil for themselves. the daughters of kings have delighted thee in thy glory. The queen stood on thy right hand, in gilded clothing; surrounded with variety.
Psalms 44:11You have made us like sheep for food, And have scattered us among the nations.You have made us like sheep which are taken for meat; we are put to flight among the nations.Thou hast made us like sheep [appointed] for food, And hast scattered us among the nations. Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline thy ear: and forget thy people and thy father's house.
Psalms 44:12You sell your people for nothing, And have gained nothing from their sale.You let your people go for nothing; your wealth is not increased by their price.Thou sellest thy people for nought, And hast not increased [thy wealth] by their price. And the king shall greatly desire thy beauty; for he is the Lord thy God, and him they shall adore.
Psalms 44:13You make us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to those who are round about us.You have made us to be looked down on by our neighbours, we are laughed at and shamed by those who are round about us.Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to them that are round about us. And the daughters of Tyre with gifts, yea, all the rich among the people, shall entreat thy countenance.
Psalms 44:14You make us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples.Our name is a word of shame among the nations, a sign for the shaking of heads among the peoples.Thou makest us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples. All the glory of the king's daughter is within in golden borders,
Psalms 44:15All day long is my dishonor before me, And shame covers my face,My downfall is ever before me, and I am covered with the shame of my face;All the day long is my dishonor before me, And the shame of my face hath covered me, clothed round about with varieties. After her shall virgins be brought to the king: her neighbours shall be brought to thee.
Psalms 44:16At the taunt of one who reproaches and reviles, Because of the enemy and the avenger.Because of the voice of him who says sharp and bitter words; because of the hater and him who is the instrument of punishment.For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth, By reason of the enemy and the avenger. They shall be brought with gladness and rejoicing: they shall be brought into the temple of the king.
Psalms 44:17All this has come on us, Yet have we not forgotten you, Neither have we been false to your covenant.All this has come on us, but still we have kept you in our memory; and we have not been false to your word.All this is come upon us; Yet have we not forgotten thee, Neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. Instead of thy fathers, sons are born to thee: thou shalt make them princes over all the earth.
Psalms 44:18Our heart has not turned back, Neither have our steps declined from your way,Our hearts have not gone back, and our steps have not been turned out of your way;Our heart is not turned back, Neither have our steps declined from thy way, They shall remember thy name throughout all generations. Therefore shall people praise thee for ever; yea, for ever and ever.
Psalms 44:19That you have crushed us in the haunt of jackals, And covered us with the shadow of death.Though you have let us be crushed in the place of jackals, though we are covered with darkest shade.That thou hast sore broken us in the place of jackals, And covered us with the shadow of death.
Psalms 44:20If we have forgotten the name of our God, Or spread forth our hands to a strange god;If the name of our God has gone out of our minds, or if our hands have been stretched out to a strange god,If we have forgotten the name of our God, Or spread forth our hands to a strange god;
Psalms 44:21Won't God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart.Will not God make search for it? for he sees the secrets of the heart.Will not God search this out? For he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
Psalms 44:22Yes, for your sake are we killed all day long. We are regarded as sheep for the slaughter.Truly, because of you we are put to death every day; we are numbered like sheep for destruction.Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Psalms 44:23Wake up! Why do you sleep, Lord? Arise! Don't reject us forever.Why are you sleeping, O Lord? awake! and come to our help, do not give us up for ever.Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? Arise, cast [us] not off for ever.
Psalms 44:24Why do you hide your face, And forget our affliction and our oppression?Why is your face covered, and why do you give no thought to our trouble and our cruel fate?Wherefore hidest thou thy face, And forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
Psalms 44:25For our soul is bowed down to the dust. Our body cleaves to the earth.For our souls are crushed down to the dust: our bodies are stretched out on the earth.For our soul is bowed down to the dust: Our body cleaveth unto the earth.
Psalms 44:26Rise up to help us. Redeem us for your lovingkindness' sake. Psalm 45 For the Chief Musician. Set to "The Lilies." A contemplation by the sons of Korah. A wedding song.Up! and come to our help, and give us salvation because of your mercy.Rise up for our help, And redeem us for thy lovingkindness' sake.
