1st-Samuel 31:1Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa. Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel: and the men of Israel went in flight before the Philistines, falling down wounded in Mount Gilboa. And the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on mount Gilboa. And the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gelboe.
1st-Samuel 31:2The Philistines followed hard on Saul and on his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul. And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons; and they put to death Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul. And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines smote Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons. And the Philistines fell upon Saul, and upon his sons, and they slew Jonathan, and Abinadab and Melchisua the sons of Saul.
1st-Samuel 31:3The battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was greatly distressed by reason of the archers. And the fight was going badly for Saul, and the archers came across him, and he was wounded by the archers. And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers came up with him; and he was much terrified by the archers. And the whole weight of the battle was turned upon Saul: and the archers overtook him, and he was grievously wounded by the archers.
1st-Samuel 31:4Then said Saul to his armor bearer, Draw your sword, and thrust me through therewith, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armor bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell on it.Then Saul said to the servant who had the care of his arms, Take out your sword and put it through me, before these men without circumcision come and make sport of me. But his servant, full of fear, would not do so. Then Saul took out his sword, and falling on it, put an end to himself. Then said Saul to his armour-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through with it; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armour-bearer would not; for he was much afraid. So Saul took the sword and fell on it.Then Saul said to his armourbearer: Draw thy sword, and kill me: lest these uncircumcised come, and slay me, and mock at me. And his armourbearer would not: for he was struck with exceeding great fear. Then Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.
1st-Samuel 31:5When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died with him.And when his servant saw that Saul was dead, he did the same, and was united with him in death. And when his armour-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on his sword, and died with him.And when his armourbearer saw this, to wit, that Saul was dead, he also fell upon his sword and died with him.
1st-Samuel 31:6So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor bearer, and all his men, that same day together. So death overtook Saul and his three sons and his servant on the same day.So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armour-bearer, and all his men, that same day together. So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men that same day together.
1st-Samuel 31:7When the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, and those who were beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them. And when the men of Israel across the valley and on the other side of Jordan saw that the army of Israel was in flight and that Saul and his sons were dead, they came out of their towns and went in flight; and the Philistines came and took them for themselves. And when the men of Israel that were on this side of the valley, and [they] that were on this side of the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them. And the men of Israel, that were beyond the valley, and beyond the Jordan, seeing that the Israelites were fled, and that Saul was dead, and his sons, forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came, and dwelt there.
1st-Samuel 31:8It happened on the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. Now on the day after, when the Philistines came to take their goods from the dead, they saw Saul and his three sons dead on the earth in Mount Gilboa. And it came to pass the next day, that the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his three sons fallen on mount Gilboa. And on the morrow the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his three sons lying in mount Gelboe.
1st-Samuel 31:9They cut off his head, and stripped off his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the news to the house of their idols, and to the people. And cutting off his head and taking away his war-dress, they sent word into the land of the Philistines round about, to take the news to their gods and to the people. And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent [them] into the land of the Philistines round about, to announce the glad tidings in the houses of their idols, and to the people. And they cut off Saul's head, and stripped him of his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the temples of their idols, and among their people.
1st-Samuel 31:10They put his armor in the house of the Ashtaroth; and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.His war-dress they put in the house of Astarte; and his body was fixed on the wall of Beth-shan.And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth; and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.And they put his armour in the temple of Astaroth, but his body they hung on the wall of Bethsan.
1st-Samuel 31:11When the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard concerning him that which the Philistines had done to Saul,And when the people of Jabesh-gilead had news of what the Philistines had done to Saul,And when the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead heard of what the Philistines had done to Saul,Now when the inhabitants of Jabes Galaad had heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
1st-Samuel 31:12all the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan; and they came to Jabesh, and burnt them there. All the fighting men got up and, travelling all night, took Saul's body and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan; and they came to Jabesh and had them burned there.all the valiant men arose and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Jabesh, and burned them there. All the most valiant men arose, and walked all the night, and took the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, from the wall of Bethsan: and they came to Jabes Galaad, and burnt them there:
1st-Samuel 31:13They took their bones, and buried them under the tamarisk-tree in Jabesh, and fasted seven days. And their bones they put in the earth under a tree in Jabesh; and for seven days they took no food. And they took their bones, and buried them under the tamarisk at Jabesh, and fasted seven days. And they took their bones and buried them in the wood of Jabes: and fasted seven days.
