| Psalms 38:1 | Yahweh, don't rebuke me in your wrath, Neither chasten me in your hot displeasure. | <A Psalm. Of David. To keep in memory.> O Lord, be not bitter with me in your wrath; let not your hand be on me in the heat of your passion. | {A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.} Jehovah, rebuke me not in thy wrath; neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. | Unto the end, for Idithun himself, a canticle of David. |
| Psalms 38:2 | For your arrows have pierced me, Your hand presses hard on me. | For your arrows have gone into my flesh, and I am crushed under the weight of your hand. | For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand cometh down upon me. | I said: I will take heed to my ways : that I sin not with my tongue. I have set guard to my mouth, when the sinner stood against me. |
| Psalms 38:3 | There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation, Neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin. | My flesh is wasted because of your wrath; and there is no peace in my bones because of my sin. | There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation; no peace in my bones, because of my sin. | I was dumb, and was humbled, and kept silence from good things : and my sorrow was renewed. |
| Psalms 38:4 | For my iniquities have gone over my head. As a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me. | For my crimes have gone over my head; they are like a great weight which is more than my strength. | For mine iniquities are gone over my head: as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. | My heart grew hot within me : and in my meditation a fire shall flame out. |
| Psalms 38:5 | My wounds are loathsome and corrupt, Because of my foolishness. | My wounds are poisoned and evil-smelling, because of my foolish behaviour. | My wounds stink, they are corrupt, because of my foolishness. | I spoke with my tongue : O Lord, make me know my end. And what is the number of my days : that I may know what is wanting to me. |
| Psalms 38:6 | I am pained and bowed down greatly. I go mourning all the day long. | I am troubled, I am made low; I go weeping all the day. | I am depressed; I am bowed down beyond measure; I go mourning all the day. | Behold thou hast made my days measurable : and my substance is as nothing before thee. And indeed all things are vanity : every man living. |
| Psalms 38:7 | For my loins are filled with burning. There is no soundness in my flesh. | For my body is full of burning; all my flesh is unhealthy. | For my loins are full of burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. | Surely man passeth as an image : yea, and he is disquieted in vain. He storeth up : and he knoweth not for whom he shall gather these things. |
| Psalms 38:8 | I am faint and severely bruised. I have groaned by reason of the anguish of my heart. | I am feeble and crushed down; I gave a cry like a lion because of the grief in my heart. | I am faint and broken beyond measure; I roar by reason of the agitation of my heart. | And now what is my hope? is it not the Lord? and my substance is with thee. |
| Psalms 38:9 | Lord, all my desire is before you. My groaning is not hidden from you. | Lord, all my desire is before you; my sorrow is not kept secret from you. | Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my sighing is not hid from thee. | Deliver thou me from all my iniquities : thou hast made me a reproach to the fool. |
| Psalms 38:10 | My heart throbs. My strength fails me. As for the light of my eyes, it also is gone from me. | My heart goes out in pain, my strength is wasting away; as for the light of my eyes, it is gone from me. | My heart throbbeth, my strength hath left me; and the light of mine eyes, it also is no more with me. | I was dumb, and I opened not my mouth, because thou hast done it. |
| Psalms 38:11 | My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague. My kinsmen stand afar off. | My lovers and my friends keep away from my disease; my relations keep far away. | My lovers and mine associates stand aloof from my stroke; and my kinsmen stand afar off. | Remove thy scourges from me. The strength of thy hand hath made me faint in rebukes: |
| Psalms 38:12 | They also who seek after my life lay snares. Those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things, And meditate deceits all day long. | Those who have a desire to take my life put nets for me; those who are designing my destruction say evil things against me, all the day their minds are full of deceit. | And they that seek after my life lay snares [for me]; and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and meditate deceits all the day long. | thou hast corrected man for iniquity. And thou hast made his soul to waste away like a spider : surely in vain is any man disquieted. |
| Psalms 38:13 | But I, as a deaf man, don't hear. I am as a mute man who doesn't open his mouth. | But I kept my ears shut like a man without hearing; like a man without a voice, never opening his mouth. | But I, as a deaf [man], hear not; and am as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. | Hear my prayer, O Lord, and my supplication : give ear to my tears. Be not silent : for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner as all my fathers were. |
| Psalms 38:14 | Yes, I am as a man who doesn't hear, In whose mouth are no reproofs. | So I was like a man whose ears are shut, and in whose mouth there are no sharp words. | Yea, I am as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs. | O forgive me, that I may be refreshed, before I go hence, and be no more. |
| Psalms 38:15 | For in you, Yahweh, do I hope. You will answer, Lord my God. | In you, O Lord, is my hope: you will give me an answer, O Lord, my God. | For in thee, Jehovah, do I hope: *thou* wilt answer, O Lord my God. | |
| Psalms 38:16 | For I said, "Don't let them gloat over me, Or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips." | I said, Let them not be glad over me; when my foot is moved, let them not be lifted up with pride against me. | For I said, Let them not rejoice over me! When my foot slipped, they magnified [themselves] against me. | |
| Psalms 38:17 | For I am ready to fall. My pain is continually before me. | My feet are near to falling, and my sorrow is ever before me. | For I am ready to halt, and my pain is continually before me. | |
| Psalms 38:18 | For I will declare my iniquity. I will be sorry for my sin. | I will make clear my wrongdoing, with sorrow in my heart for my sin. | For I will declare mine iniquity, I am grieved for my sin. | |
| Psalms 38:19 | But my enemies are vigorous and many. Those who hate me without reason are numerous. | But they are strong who have hate for me without cause: those who are against me falsely are increased in numbers. | But mine enemies are lively, they are strong; and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied: | |
| Psalms 38:20 | They who also render evil for good are adversaries to me, Because I follow what is good. | They give me back evil for good; they are my haters because I go after the thing which is right. | And they that render evil for good are adversaries unto me; because I pursue what is good. | |
| Psalms 38:21 | Don't forsake me, Yahweh. My God, don't be far from me. | Do not give me up, O Lord; O my God, be near to me. | Forsake me not, Jehovah; O my God, be not far from me. | |
| Psalms 38:22 | Hurry to help me, Lord, my salvation. Psalm 39 For the Chief Musician. For Jeduthun. A Psalm by David. | Come quickly to give me help, O Lord, my salvation. | Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation. | |
