Of the sons of Korah.> Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised, in the town of our God, in his holy mountain. | {A Song; a Psalm. Of the sons of Korah.} Great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the hill of his holiness. | Unto the end, a psalm for the sons of Core. |
| Psalms 48:2 | Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, Is Mount Zion, on the north sides, The city of the great King. | Beautiful in its high position, the joy of all the earth, is the mountain of Zion, the mountain of God, the town of the great King. | Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, [on] the sides of the north, the city of the great King. | Hear these things, all ye nations: give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world. |
| Psalms 48:3 | God has shown himself in her citadels as a refuge. | In its buildings God is seen to be a high tower. | God is known in her palaces as a high fortress. | All you that are earthborn, and you sons of men: both rich and poor together. |
| Psalms 48:4 | For, behold, the kings assembled themselves, They passed by together. | For see! the kings came together by agreement, they were joined together. | For behold, the kings assembled themselves, they passed by together; | My mouth shall speak wisdom: and the meditation of my heart understanding. |
| Psalms 48:5 | They saw it, then were they amazed. They were dismayed, They hurried away. | They saw it, and so were full of wonder; they were troubled, and went quickly away in fear. | They saw, so they marvelled; they were troubled, they fled in consternation: | I will incline my ear to a parable; I will open my proposition on the psaltery. |
| Psalms 48:6 | Trembling took hold of them there, Pain, as of a woman in travail. | Shaking came on them and pain, as on a woman in childbirth. | Trembling took hold upon them there; anguish, as of a woman in travail. | Why shall I fear in the evil day? the iniquity of my heel shall encompass me. |
| Psalms 48:7 | With the east wind, you break the ships of Tarshish. | By you the ships of Tarshish are broken as by an east wind. | With an east wind thou hast broken the ships of Tarshish. | They that trust in their own strength, and glory in the multitude of their riches, |
| Psalms 48:8 | As we have heard, so have we seen, In the city of Yahweh of Hosts, in the city of our God. God will establish it forever. Selah. | As it came to our ears so have we seen it, in the town of the Lord of armies, in the town of our God; God will keep it fixed for ever. (Selah.) | As we have heard, so have we seen, in the city of Jehovah of hosts, in the city of our God: God doth establish it for ever. Selah. | No brother can redeem, nor shall man redeem: he shall not give to God his ransom, |
| Psalms 48:9 | We have thought about your lovingkindness, God, In the midst of your temple. | Our thoughts were of your mercy, O God, while we were in your Temple. | We have thought, O God, of thy loving-kindness, in the midst of thy temple. | Nor the price of the redemption of his soul: and shall labour for ever, |
| Psalms 48:10 | As is your name, God, So is your praise to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is full of righteousness. | As your name is, O God, so is your praise to the ends of the earth; your right hand is full of righteousness. | According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness. | and shall still live unto the end. |
| Psalms 48:11 | Let Mount Zion be glad! Let the daughters of Judah rejoice, Because of your judgments. | Let there be joy in the mountain of Zion, and let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of your wise decisions. | Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments. | He shall not see destruction, when he shall see the wise dying: the senseless and the fool shall perish together: And they shall leave their riches to strangers: |
| Psalms 48:12 | Walk about Zion, and go around her. Number the towers of it; | Make your way about Zion, and go round it, numbering its towers. | Walk about Zion, and go round about her: count the towers thereof; | and their sepulchres shall be their houses for ever. Their dwelling places to all generations: they have called their lands by their names. |
| Psalms 48:13 | Mark well her bulwarks. Consider her palaces, That you may tell it to the next generation. | Take note of its strong walls, looking well at its fair buildings; so that you may give word of it to the generation which comes after. | Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces: that ye may tell it to the generation following. | And man when he was in honour did not understand; he is compared to senseless beasts, and is become like to them. |
