Of Heman the Ezrahite.> O Lord, God of my salvation, I have been crying to you for help by day and by night: | A Song, a Psalm, by sons of Korah, to the Overseer, `Concerning the Sickness of Afflictions.` An instruction, by Heman the Ezrahite. O Jehovah, God of my salvation, Daily I have cried, nightly before Thee, | A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite. O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee: |
| Psalms 88:2 | Let my prayer enter into your presence. Turn your ear to my cry. | Let my prayer come before you; give ear to my cry: | My prayer cometh in before Thee, Incline Thine ear to my loud cry, | Let my prayer come before thee: incline thy ear to my cry; |
| Psalms 88:3 | For my soul is full of troubles. My life draws near to Sheol. | For my soul is full of evils, and my life has come near to the underworld. | For my soul hath been full of evils, And my life hath come to Sheol. | For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh to the grave. |
| Psalms 88:4 | I am counted among those who go down into the pit. I am like a man who has no help, | I am numbered among those who go down into the earth; I have become like a man for whom there is no help: | I have been reckoned with those going down [to] the pit, I have been as a man without strength. | I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength: |
| Psalms 88:5 | Set apart among the dead, Like the slain who lie in the grave, Whom you remember no more. They are cut off from your hand. | My soul is among the dead, like those in the underworld, to whom you give no more thought; for they are cut off from your care. | Among the dead free, As pierced ones lying in the grave, Whom Thou hast not remembered any more, Yea, they by Thy hand have been cut off. | Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand. |
| Psalms 88:6 | You have laid me in the lowest pit, In the darkest depths. | You have put me in the lowest deep, even in dark places. | Thou hast put me in the lowest pit, In dark places, in depths. | Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps. |
| Psalms 88:7 | Your wrath lies heavily on me. You have afflicted me with all your waves. Selah. | The weight of your wrath is crushing me, all your waves have overcome me. (Selah.) | Upon me hath Thy fury lain, And [with] all Thy breakers Thou hast afflicted. Selah. | Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah. |
| Psalms 88:8 | You have taken my friends from me. You have made me an abomination to them. I am confined, and I can't escape. | You have sent my friends far away from me; you have made me a disgusting thing in their eyes: I am shut up, and not able to come out. | Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me, Thou hast made me an abomination to them, Shut up I go not forth. | Thou hast put away my acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination to them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth. |
| Psalms 88:9 | My eyes are dim from grief. I have called on you daily, Yahweh. I have spread out my hands to you. | My eyes are wasting away because of my trouble: Lord, my cry has gone up to you every day, my hands are stretched out to you. | Mine eye hath grieved because of affliction, I called Thee, O Jehovah, all the day, I have spread out unto Thee my hands. | My eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands to thee. |
| Psalms 88:10 | Do you show wonders to the dead? Do the dead rise up and praise you? Selah. | Will you do works of wonder for the dead? will the shades come back to give you praise? (Selah.) | To the dead dost Thou do wonders? Do Rephaim rise? do they thank Thee? Selah. | Wilt thou show wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah. |
| Psalms 88:11 | Is your lovingkindness declared in the grave? Or your faithfulness in Destruction? | Will the story of your mercy be given in the house of the dead? will news of your faith come to the place of destruction? | Is Thy kindness recounted in the grave? Thy faithfulness in destruction? | Shall thy loving-kindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction? |
| Psalms 88:12 | Are your wonders made known in the dark? Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? | May there be knowledge of your wonders in the dark? or of your righteousness where memory is dead? | Are Thy wonders known in the darkness? And Thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? | Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? |
| Psalms 88:13 | But to you, Yahweh, I have cried. In the morning, my prayer comes before you. | But to you did I send up my cry, O Lord; in the morning my prayer came before you. | And I, unto Thee, O Jehovah, I have cried, And in the morning doth my prayer come before Thee. | But to thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer come before thee. |
| Psalms 88:14 | Yahweh, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me? | Lord, why have you sent away my soul? why is your face covered from me? | Why, O Jehovah, castest Thou off my soul? Thou hidest Thy face from me. | LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me? |
| Psalms 88:15 | I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up. While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted. | I have been troubled and in fear of death from the time when I was young; your wrath is hard on me, and I have no strength. | I [am] afflicted, and expiring from youth, I have borne Thy terrors I pine away. | I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted. |
