Psalms 88:1Yahweh, the God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before you.<A Song. A Psalm. Of the sons of Korah. To the chief music-maker; put to Mahalath Leannoth. Maschil. Of Heman the Ezrahite.> O Lord, God of my salvation, I have been crying to you for help by day and by night:A Song, a Psalm, by sons of Korah, to the Overseer, `Concerning the Sickness of Afflictions.` An instruction, by Heman the Ezrahite. O Jehovah, God of my salvation, Daily I have cried, nightly before Thee,A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite. O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:
Psalms 88:2Let my prayer enter into your presence. Turn your ear to my cry.Let my prayer come before you; give ear to my cry:My prayer cometh in before Thee, Incline Thine ear to my loud cry,Let my prayer come before thee: incline thy ear to my cry;
Psalms 88:3For my soul is full of troubles. My life draws near to Sheol.For my soul is full of evils, and my life has come near to the underworld.For my soul hath been full of evils, And my life hath come to Sheol.For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh to the grave.
Psalms 88:4I am counted among those who go down into the pit. I am like a man who has no help,I am numbered among those who go down into the earth; I have become like a man for whom there is no help:I have been reckoned with those going down [to] the pit, I have been as a man without strength.I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:
Psalms 88:5Set apart among the dead, Like the slain who lie in the grave, Whom you remember no more. They are cut off from your hand.My soul is among the dead, like those in the underworld, to whom you give no more thought; for they are cut off from your care.Among the dead free, As pierced ones lying in the grave, Whom Thou hast not remembered any more, Yea, they by Thy hand have been cut off.Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand.
Psalms 88:6You have laid me in the lowest pit, In the darkest depths.You have put me in the lowest deep, even in dark places.Thou hast put me in the lowest pit, In dark places, in depths.Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.
Psalms 88:7Your wrath lies heavily on me. You have afflicted me with all your waves. Selah.The weight of your wrath is crushing me, all your waves have overcome me. (Selah.)Upon me hath Thy fury lain, And [with] all Thy breakers Thou hast afflicted. Selah.Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah.
Psalms 88:8You have taken my friends from me. You have made me an abomination to them. I am confined, and I can't escape.You have sent my friends far away from me; you have made me a disgusting thing in their eyes: I am shut up, and not able to come out.Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me, Thou hast made me an abomination to them, Shut up I go not forth.Thou hast put away my acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination to them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.
Psalms 88:9My eyes are dim from grief. I have called on you daily, Yahweh. I have spread out my hands to you.My eyes are wasting away because of my trouble: Lord, my cry has gone up to you every day, my hands are stretched out to you.Mine eye hath grieved because of affliction, I called Thee, O Jehovah, all the day, I have spread out unto Thee my hands.My eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands to thee.
Psalms 88:10Do you show wonders to the dead? Do the dead rise up and praise you? Selah.Will you do works of wonder for the dead? will the shades come back to give you praise? (Selah.)To the dead dost Thou do wonders? Do Rephaim rise? do they thank Thee? Selah.Wilt thou show wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah.
Psalms 88:11Is your lovingkindness declared in the grave? Or your faithfulness in Destruction?Will the story of your mercy be given in the house of the dead? will news of your faith come to the place of destruction?Is Thy kindness recounted in the grave? Thy faithfulness in destruction?Shall thy loving-kindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction?
Psalms 88:12Are your wonders made known in the dark? Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?May there be knowledge of your wonders in the dark? or of your righteousness where memory is dead?Are Thy wonders known in the darkness? And Thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
Psalms 88:13But to you, Yahweh, I have cried. In the morning, my prayer comes before you.But to you did I send up my cry, O Lord; in the morning my prayer came before you.And I, unto Thee, O Jehovah, I have cried, And in the morning doth my prayer come before Thee.But to thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer come before thee.
Psalms 88:14Yahweh, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me?Lord, why have you sent away my soul? why is your face covered from me?Why, O Jehovah, castest Thou off my soul? Thou hidest Thy face from me.LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me?
Psalms 88:15I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up. While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted.I have been troubled and in fear of death from the time when I was young; your wrath is hard on me, and I have no strength.I [am] afflicted, and expiring from youth, I have borne Thy terrors I pine away.I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.
Psalms 88:16Your fierce wrath has gone over me. Your terrors have cut me off.The heat of your wrath has gone over me; I am broken by your cruel punishments.Over me hath Thy wrath passed, Thy terrors have cut me off,Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off.
Psalms 88:17They came around me like water all day long. They completely engulfed me.They are round me all the day like water; they have made a circle about me.They have surrounded me as waters all the day, They have gone round against me together,They came around me daily like water; they encompassed me together.
Psalms 88:18You have put lover and friend far from me, And my friends into darkness. Psalm 89 A contemplation by Ethan, the Ezrahite.You have sent my friends and lovers far from me; I am gone from the memory of those who are dear to me.Thou hast put far from me lover and friend, Mine acquaintance [is] the place of darkness!Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and my acquaintance into darkness.
