Job 29:2"Oh that I were as in the months of old, As in the days when God watched over me;Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when +God preserved me;If only I might again be as I was in the months which are past, in the days when God was watching over me!Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;
Job 29:3When his lamp shone on my head, And by his light I walked through darkness;When his lamp shone over my head, [and] by his light I walked through darkness;When his light was shining over my head, and when I went through the dark by his light.When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;
Job 29:4As I was in the ripeness of my days, When the friendship of God was in my tent;As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret counsel of +God was over my tent,As I was in my flowering years, when my tent was covered by the hand of God;As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;
Job 29:5When the Almighty was yet with me, And my children were around me;When the Almighty was yet with me, my young men round about me;While the Ruler of all was still with me, and my children were round me;When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;
Job 29:6When my steps were washed with butter, And the rock poured out streams of oil for me!When my steps were bathed in milk, and the rock poured out beside me rivers of oil! ...When my steps were washed with milk, and rivers of oil were flowing out of the rock for me.When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
Job 29:7When I went forth to the city gate, When I prepared my seat in the street,When I went out to the gate by the city, when I prepared my seat on the broadway,When I went out of my door to go up to the town, and took my seat in the public place,When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!
Job 29:8The young men saw me and hid themselves, The aged rose up and stood;The young men saw me, and hid themselves; and the aged arose [and] stood up;The young men saw me, and went away, and the old men got up from their seats;The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.
Job 29:9The princes refrained from talking, And laid their hand on their mouth;Princes refrained from talking, and laid the hand on their mouth;The rulers kept quiet, and put their hands on their mouths;The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.
Job 29:10The voice of the nobles was hushed, And their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue cleaved to their palate.The chiefs kept back their words, and their tongues were joined to the roofs of their mouths.The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.
Job 29:11For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me; And when the eye saw me, it commended me:When the ear heard [me], then it blessed me, and when the eye saw [me], it gave witness to me;For when it came to their ears, men said that I was truly happy; and when their eyes saw, they gave witness to me;When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:
Job 29:12Because I delivered the poor who cried, And the fatherless also, who had none to help him.For I delivered the afflicted that cried, and the fatherless who had no helper.For I was a saviour to the poor when he was crying for help, to the child with no father, and to him who had no supporter.Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.
Job 29:13The blessing of him who was ready to perish came on me, And I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.The blessing of him that was perishing came upon me, and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.The blessing of him who was near to destruction came on me, and I put a song of joy into the widow's heart.The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
Job 29:14I put on righteousness, and it clothed me. My justice was as a robe and a diadem.I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was as a mantle and a turban.I put on righteousness as my clothing, and was full of it; right decisions were to me a robe and a head-dress.I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.
Job 29:15I was eyes to the blind, And feet to the lame.I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame;I was eyes to the blind, and feet to him who had no power of walking.I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.
Job 29:16I was a father to the needy. The cause of him who I didn't know, I searched out.I was a father to the needy, and the cause which I knew not I searched out;I was a father to the poor, searching out the cause of him who was strange to me.I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.
Job 29:17I broke the jaws of the unrighteous, And plucked the prey out of his teeth.And I broke the jaws of the unrighteous, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.By me the great teeth of the evil-doer were broken, and I made him give up what he had violently taken away.And I broke the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.
Job 29:18Then I said, 'I shall die in my own house, I shall number my days as the sand.And I said, I shall die in my nest, and multiply my days as the sand;Then I said, I will come to my end with my children round me, my days will be as the sand in number;Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.
Job 29:19My root is spread out to the waters, The dew lies all night on my branch;My root shall be spread out to the waters, and the dew will lie all night on my branch;My root will be open to the waters, and the night mist will be on my branches,My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.
Job 29:20My glory is fresh in me, My bow is renewed in my hand.'My glory shall be fresh in me, and my bow be renewed in my hand.My glory will be ever new, and my bow will be readily bent in my hand.My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.
Job 29:21"Men listened to me, waited, And kept silence for my counsel.Unto me they listened, and waited, and kept silence for my counsel:Men gave ear to me, waiting and keeping quiet for my suggestions.To me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.
Job 29:22After my words they didn't speak again; My speech fell on them.After my words they spoke not again, and my speech dropped upon them;After I had said what was in my mind, they were quiet and let my words go deep into their hearts;After my words they spoke not again; and my speech dropped upon them.
Job 29:23They waited for me as for the rain. Their mouths drank as with the spring rain.And they waited for me as for the rain, and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.They were waiting for me as for the rain, opening their mouths wide as for the spring rains.And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.
Job 29:24I smiled on them when they had no confidence. They didn't reject the light of my face.[If] I laughed on them, they believed [it] not; and they troubled not the serenity of my countenance.I was laughing at them when they had no hope, and the light of my face was never clouded by their fear.If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.
Job 29:25I chose out their way, and sat as chief. I lived as a king in the army, As one who comforts the mourners.I chose their way, and sat as chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth mourners.I took my place as a chief, guiding them on their way, and I was as a king among his army. ...I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.
