Proverbs 23:1When you sit to eat with a ruler, Consider diligently what is before you;When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider well who is before thee;When you take your seat at the feast with a ruler, give thought with care to what is before you;When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, Thou considerest diligently that which [is] before thee,
Proverbs 23:2Put a knife to your throat, If you are a man given to appetite.and put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.And put a knife to your throat, if you have a strong desire for food.And thou hast put a knife to thy throat, If thou [art] a man of appetite.
Proverbs 23:3Don't be desirous of his dainties, Seeing they are deceitful food.Be not desirous of his dainties; for they are deceitful food.Have no desire for his delicate food, for it is the bread of deceit.Have no desire to his dainties, seeing it [is] lying food.
Proverbs 23:4Don't weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint.Weary not thyself to become rich; cease from thine own intelligence:Take no care to get wealth; let there be an end to your desire for money.Labour not to make wealth, From thine own understanding cease, Dost thou cause thine eyes to fly upon it? Then it is not.
Proverbs 23:5Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.wilt thou set thine eyes upon it, it is gone; for indeed it maketh itself wings and it flieth away as an eagle towards the heavens.Are your eyes lifted up to it? it is gone: for wealth takes to itself wings, like an eagle in flight up to heaven.For wealth maketh to itself wings, As an eagle it flieth to the heavens.
Proverbs 23:6Don't eat the food of him who has a stingy eye, And don't crave his delicacies:Eat thou not the food of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties.Do not take the food of him who has an evil eye, or have any desire for his delicate meat:Eat not the bread of an evil eye, And have no desire to his dainties,
Proverbs 23:7For as he thinks about the cost, so he is. "Eat and drink!" he says to you, But his heart is not with you.For as he thinketh in his soul, so is he. Eat and drink! will he say unto thee; but his heart is not with thee.For as the thoughts of his heart are, so is he: Take food and drink, he says to you; but his heart is not with you.For as he hath thought in his soul, so [is] he, `Eat and drink,` saith he to thee, And his heart [is] not with thee.
Proverbs 23:8The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up, And lose your good words.Thy morsel which thou hast eaten must thou vomit up, and thou wilt have wasted thy sweet words.The food which you have taken will come up again, and your pleasing words will be wasted.Thy morsel thou hast eaten thou dost vomit up, And hast marred thy words that [are] sweet.
Proverbs 23:9Don't speak in the ears of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words.Speak not in the ears of a foolish [man], for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.Say nothing in the hearing of a foolish man, for he will put no value on the wisdom of your words.In the ears of a fool speak not, For he treadeth on the wisdom of thy words.
Proverbs 23:10Don't move the ancient boundary stone. Don't encroach on the fields of the fatherless:Remove not the ancient landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:Do not let the landmark of the widow be moved, and do not go into the fields of those who have no father;Remove not a border of olden times, And into fields of the fatherless enter not,
Proverbs 23:11For their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you.for their redeemer is mighty; he will plead their cause against thee.For their saviour is strong, and he will take up their cause against you.For their Redeemer [is] strong, He doth plead their cause with thee.
Proverbs 23:12Apply your heart to instruction, And your ears to the words of knowledge.Apply thy heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.Give your heart to teaching, and your ears to the words of knowledge.Bring in to instruction thy heart, And thine ear to sayings of knowledge.
Proverbs 23:13Don't withhold correction from a child. If you punish him with the rod, he will not die.Withhold not correction from the child; for [if] thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die:Do not keep back training from the child: for even if you give him blows with the rod, it will not be death to him.Withhold not from a youth chastisement, When thou smitest him with a rod he dieth not.
Proverbs 23:14Punish him with the rod, And save his soul from Sheol.thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from Sheol.Give him blows with the rod, and keep his soul safe from the underworld.Thou with a rod smitest him, And his soul from Sheol thou deliverest.
Proverbs 23:15My son, if your heart is wise, Then my heart will be glad, even mine:My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine;My son, if your heart becomes wise, I, even I, will be glad in heart;My son, if thy heart hath been wise, My heart rejoiceth, even mine,
Proverbs 23:16Yes, my heart will rejoice, When your lips speak what is right.and my reins shall exult, when thy lips speak right things.And my thoughts in me will be full of joy when your lips say right things.And my reins exult when thy lips speak uprightly.
Proverbs 23:17Don't let your heart envy sinners; But rather fear Yahweh all the day long.Let not thy heart envy sinners, but [be thou] in the fear of Jehovah all the day;Have no envy of sinners in your heart, but keep in the fear of the Lord all through the day;Let not thy heart be envious at sinners, But in the fear of Jehovah all the day.
Proverbs 23:18Indeed surely there is a future hope, And your hope will not be cut off.for surely there is a result, and thine expectation shall not be cut off.For without doubt there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.For, is there a posterity? Then thy hope is not cut off.
Proverbs 23:19Listen, my son, and be wise, And keep your heart on the right path!Thou, my son, hear and be wise, and direct thy heart in the way.Give ear, my son, and be wise, guiding your heart in the right way.Hear thou, my son, and be wise, And make happy in the way thy heart,
Proverbs 23:20Don't be among ones drinking too much wine, Or those who gorge themselves on meat:Be not among winebibbers, among riotous eaters of flesh.Do not be among those who give themselves to wine-drinking, or among those who make themselves full with meat:Be not thou among quaffers of wine, Among gluttonous ones of flesh,
Proverbs 23:21For the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; And drowsiness clothes them in rags.For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness clotheth with rags.For those who take delight in drink and feasting will come to be in need; and through love of sleep a man will be poorly clothed.For the quaffer and glutton become poor, And drowsiness clotheth with rags.
Proverbs 23:22Listen to your father who gave you life, And don't despise your mother when she is old.Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.Give ear to your father whose child you are, and do not keep honour from your mother when she is old.Hearken to thy father, who begat thee, And despise not thy mother when she hath become old.
Proverbs 23:23Buy the truth, and don't sell it: Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.Buy the truth, and sell it not; wisdom, and instruction, and intelligence.Get for yourself that which is true, and do not let it go for money; get wisdom and teaching and good sense.Truth buy, and sell not, Wisdom, and instruction, and understanding,
Proverbs 23:24The father of the righteous has great joy. Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him.The father of a righteous [man] shall greatly rejoice, and he that begetteth a wise [son] shall have joy of him:The father of the upright man will be glad, and he who has a wise child will have joy because of him.The father of the righteous rejoiceth greatly, The begetter of the wise rejoiceth in him.
Proverbs 23:25Let your father and your mother be glad! Let her who bore you rejoice!let thy father and thy mother have joy, and let her that bore thee rejoice.Let your father and your mother be glad, let her who gave you birth have joy.Rejoice doth thy father and thy mother, Yea, she that bare thee is joyful.
Proverbs 23:26My son, give me your heart; And let your eyes keep in my ways.My son, give me thy heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes take delight in my ways.Give, my son, thy heart to me, And let thine eyes watch my ways.
Proverbs 23:27For a prostitute is a deep pit; And a wayward wife is a narrow well.For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.For a loose woman is a deep hollow, and a strange woman is a narrow water-hole.For a harlot [is] a deep ditch, And a strange woman [is] a strait pit.
Proverbs 23:28Yes, she lies in wait like a robber, And increases the unfaithful among men.She also lieth in wait as a robber, and increaseth the treacherous among men.Yes, she is waiting secretly like a beast for its food, and deceit by her is increased among men.She also, as catching prey, lieth in wait, And the treacherous among men she increaseth.
Proverbs 23:29Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?Who hath woe? Who hath sorrow? Who contentions? Who complaining? Who wounds without cause? Who redness of eyes?Who says, Oh! who says, Ah! who has violent arguments, who has grief, who has wounds without cause, whose eyes are dark?Who hath wo? who hath sorrow? Who hath contentions? who hath plaint? Who hath wounds without cause? Who hath redness of eyes?
Proverbs 23:30Those who stay long at the wine; Those who go to seek out mixed wine.They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to try mixed wine.Those who are seated late over the wine: those who go looking for mixed wine.Those tarrying by the wine, Those going in to search out mixed wine.
Proverbs 23:31Don't look at the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it goes down smoothly:Look not upon the wine when it is red, when it sparkleth in the cup, and goeth down smoothly:Keep your eyes from looking on the wine when it is red, when its colour is bright in the cup, when it goes smoothly down:See not wine when it showeth itself red, When it giveth in the cup its colour, It goeth up and down through the upright.
Proverbs 23:32At the last it bites like a snake, And poisons like a viper.at the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.In the end, its bite is like that of a snake, its wound like the wound of a poison-snake.Its latter end as a serpent it biteth, And as a basilisk it stingeth.
Proverbs 23:33Your eyes will see strange things, And your mind will imagine confusing things.Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thy heart shall speak froward things;Your eyes will see strange things, and you will say twisted things.Thine eyes see strange women, And thy heart speaketh perverse things.
Proverbs 23:34Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea, Or as he who lies on top of the rigging:and thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, and as he that lieth down upon the top of a mast:Yes, you will be like him who takes his rest on the sea, or on the top of a sail-support.And thou hast been as one lying down in the heart of the sea, And as one lying down on the top of a mast.
Proverbs 23:35"They hit me, and I was not hurt; They beat me, and I don't feel it! When will I wake up? I can do it again. I can find another."''They have smitten me, [and] I am not sore; they have beaten me, [and] I knew it not. When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.''They have overcome me, you will say, and I have no pain; they gave me blows without my feeling them: when will I be awake from my wine? I will go after it again.`They smote me, I have not been sick, They beat me, I have not known. When I awake I seek it yet again!`
