| Psalms 42:1 | As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul after you, God. | {To the chief Musician. An instruction; of the sons of Korah.} As the hart panteth after the water-brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. | <To the chief music-maker. Maschil. Of the sons of Korah.> Like the desire of the roe for the water-streams, so is my soul's desire for you, O God. | To the Overseer. An Instruction. By sons of Korah. As a hart doth pant for streams of water, So my soul panteth toward Thee, O God. |
| Psalms 42:2 | My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? | My soul thirsteth for God, for the living ùGod: when shall I come and appear before God? | My soul is dry for need of God, the living God; when may I come and see the face of God? | My soul thirsted for God, for the living God, When do I enter and see the face of God? |
| Psalms 42:3 | My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually ask me, "Where is your God?" | My tears have been my bread day and night, while they say unto me all the day, Where is thy God? | My tears have been my food day and night, while they keep saying to me, Where is your God? | My tear hath been to me bread day and night, In their saying unto me all the day, `Where [is] thy God?` |
| Psalms 42:4 | These things I remember, and pour out my soul within me, How I used to go with the crowd, and led them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping a holy day. | These things I remember and have poured out my soul within me: how I passed along with the multitude, how I went on with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, a festive multitude. | Let my soul be overflowing with grief when these things come back to my mind, how I went in company to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with the song of those who were keeping the feast. | These I remember, and pour out my soul in me, For I pass over into the booth, I go softly with them unto the house of God, With the voice of singing and confession, The multitude keeping feast! |
| Psalms 42:5 | Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him for the saving help of his presence. | Why art thou cast down, my soul, and art disquieted in me? hope in God; for I shall yet praise him, [for] the health of his countenance. | Why are you crushed down, O my soul? and why are you troubled in me? put your hope in God; for I will again give him praise who is my help and my God. | What! bowest thou thyself, O my soul? Yea, art thou troubled within me? Wait for God, for still I confess Him: The salvation of my countenance My God! |
| Psalms 42:6 | My God, my soul is in despair within me. Therefore I remember you from the land of the Jordan, The heights of Hermon, from the hill Mizar. | My God, my soul is cast down within me; therefore do I remember thee from the land of the Jordan, and the Hermons, from mount Mizar. | My soul is crushed down in me, so I will keep you in mind; from the land of Jordan and of the Hermons, from the hill Mizar. | In me doth my soul bow itself, Therefore I remember Thee from the land of Jordan, And of the Hermons, from the hill Mizar. |
| Psalms 42:7 | Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls. All your waves and your billows have swept over me. | Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy cataracts; all thy breakers and thy billows are gone over me. | Deep is sounding to deep at the noise of your waterfalls; all your waves have gone rolling over me. | Deep unto deep is calling At the noise of Thy water-spouts, All Thy breakers and Thy billows passed over me. |
| Psalms 42:8 | Yahweh will command his lovingkindness in the daytime. In the night his song shall be with me: A prayer to the God of my life. | In the day-time will Jehovah command his loving-kindness, and in the night his song shall be with me, a prayer unto the ùGod of my life. | But the Lord will send his mercy in the daytime, and in the night his song will be with me, a prayer to the God of my life. | By day Jehovah commandeth His kindness, And by night a song [is] with me, A prayer to the God of my life. |
| Psalms 42:9 | I will ask God, my rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?" | I will say unto ùGod my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? | I will say to God my Rock, Why have you let me go from your memory? why do I go in sorrow because of the attacks of my haters? | I say to God my rock, `Why hast Thou forgotten me? Why go I mourning in the oppression of an enemy? |
| Psalms 42:10 | As with a sword in my bones, my adversaries reproach me, While they continually ask me, "Where is your God?" | As with a crushing in my bones mine adversaries reproach me, while they say unto me all the day, Where is thy God? | The cruel words of my haters are like a crushing of my bones; when they say to me every day, Where is your God? | With a sword in my bones Have mine adversaries reproached me, In their saying unto me all the day, `Where [is] thy God?` |
| Psalms 42:11 | Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, The saving help of my countenance, and my God. Psalm 43 | Why art thou cast down, my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God; for I shall yet praise him, [who is] the health of my countenance, and my God. | Why are you crushed down, O my soul? and why are you troubled in me? put your hope in God; for I will again give him praise who is my help and my God. | What! bowest thou thyself, O my soul? And what! art thou troubled within me? Wait for God, for still I confess Him, The salvation of my countenance, and my God! |
