| Psalms 72:1 | God, give the king your justice; Your righteousness to the royal son. | {For Solomon.} O God, give the king thy judgments, and thy righteousness unto the king's son. | A psalm for Asaph. How good is God to Israel, to them that are of a right heart! | |
| Psalms 72:2 | He will judge your people with righteousness, And your poor with justice. | He will judge thy people with righteousness, and thine afflicted with judgment. | But my feet were almost moved; my steps had well nigh slipped. | |
| Psalms 72:3 | The mountains shall bring prosperity to the people; The hills bring the fruit of righteousness. | The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the hills, by righteousness. | Because I had a zeal on occasion of the wicked, seeing the prosperity of sinners. | |
| Psalms 72:4 | He will judge the poor of the people. He will save the children of the needy, And will break the oppressor in pieces. | He will do justice to the afflicted of the people; he will save the children of the needy, and will break in pieces the oppressor. | For there is no regard to their death, nor is there strength in their stripes. | |
| Psalms 72:5 | They shall fear you while the sun endures; And as long as the moon, throughout all generations. | They shall fear thee as long as sun and moon endure, from generation to generation. | They are not in the labour of men: neither shall they be scourged like other men. B Therefore pride hath held them fast: they are covered with their iniquity and their wickedness. | |
| Psalms 72:6 | He will come down like rain on the mown grass, As showers that water the earth. | He shall come down like rain on the mown grass, as showers that water the earth. | Their iniquity hath come forth, as it were from fatness: they have passed into the affection of the heart. | |
| Psalms 72:7 | In his days, the righteous shall flourish, And abundance of peace, until the moon is no more. | In his days shall the righteous flourish, and abundance of peace till the moon be no more. | They have thought and spoken wickedness: they have spoken iniquity on high. | |
| Psalms 72:8 | He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, From the River to the ends of the earth. | And he shall have dominion from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth. | They have set their mouth against heaven: and their tongue hath passed through the earth. | |
| Psalms 72:9 | Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him. His enemies shall lick the dust. | The dwellers in the desert shall bow before him, and his enemies shall lick the dust. | Therefore will my people return here and full days shall be found in them. | |
| Psalms 72:10 | The kings of Tarshish and of the isles will bring tribute. The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. | The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall render presents; the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer tribute: | And they said: How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High? | |
| Psalms 72:11 | Yes, all kings shall fall down before him. All nations shall serve him. | Yea, all kings shall bow down before him; all nations shall serve him. | Behold these are sinners; and yet abounding in the world they have obtained riches. | |
| Psalms 72:12 | For he will deliver the needy when he cries; The poor, who has no helper. | For he will deliver the needy who crieth, and the afflicted, who hath no helper; | And I said: Then have I in vain justified my heart, and washed my hands among the innocent. | |
| Psalms 72:13 | He will have pity on the poor and needy. He will save the souls of the needy. | He will have compassion on the poor and needy, and will save the souls of the needy: | And I have been scourged all the day; and my chastisement hath been in the mornings. | |
| Psalms 72:14 | He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence. Their blood will be precious in his sight. | He will redeem their souls from oppression and violence, and precious shall their blood be in his sight. | If I said: I will speak thus; behold I should condemn the generation of thy children. | |
| Psalms 72:15 | They shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba. Men shall pray for him continually. They shall bless him all day long. | And he shall live; and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba; and prayer shall be made for him continually: all the day shall he be blessed. | I studied that I might know this thing, it is a labour in my sight: | |
| Psalms 72:16 | There shall be abundance of grain throughout the land. Its fruit sways like Lebanon. Let it flourish, thriving like the grass of the field. | There shall be abundance of corn in the earth, upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon; and they of the city shall bloom like the herb of the earth. | Until I go into the sanctuary of God, and understand concerning their last ends. | |
| Psalms 72:17 | His name endures forever. His name continues as long as the sun. Men shall be blessed by him. All nations will call him blessed. | His name shall endure for ever; his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and [men] shall bless themselves in him; all nations shall call him blessed. | But indeed for deceits thou hast put it to them: when they were lifted up thou hast cast them down. | |
| Psalms 72:18 | Praise be to Yahweh God, the God of Israel, Who alone does marvelous deeds. | Blessed be Jehovah Elohim, the God of Israel, who alone doeth wondrous things! | How are they brought to desolation? they have suddenly ceased to be: they have perished by reason of their iniquity. | |
| Psalms 72:19 | Blessed be his glorious name forever! Let the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen and amen. | And blessed be his glorious name for ever! and let the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen, and Amen. | As the dream of them that awake, O Lord; so in thy city thou shalt bring their image to nothing. | |
| Psalms 72:20 | This ends the prayers by David, the son of Jesse. BOOK III Psalm 73 A Psalm by Asaph. | The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended. | For my heart hath been inflamed, and my reins have been changed: | |
