O God, why hast thou cast us off unto the end: why is thy wrath enkindled against the sheep of thy pasture?
Psalms 73:2But as for me, my feet were almost gone. My steps had nearly slipped. But as for me, my feet were almost gone, my steps had well nigh slipped; But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.Remember thy congregation, which thou hast possessed from the beginning. The sceptre of thy inheritance which thou hast redeemed: mount Sion in which thou hast dwelt.
Psalms 73:3For I was envious of the arrogant, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked. For I was envious at the arrogant, seeing the prosperity of the wicked. For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.Lift up thy hands against their pride unto the end; see what things the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.
Psalms 73:4For there are no struggles in their death, But their strength is firm. For they have no pangs in their death, and their body is well nourished; For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm. And they that hate thee have made their boasts, in the midst of thy solemnity. They have set up their ensigns for signs,
Psalms 73:5They are free from burdens of men, Neither are they plagued like other men. They have not the hardships of mankind, neither are they plagued like [other] men:They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.and they knew not both in the going out and on the highest top. As with axes in a wood of trees,
Psalms 73:6Therefore pride is like a chain around their neck. Violence covers them like a garment. Therefore pride encompasseth them as a neck-chain, violence covereth them [as] a garment; Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.they have cut down at once the gates thereof, with axe and hatchet they have brought it down.
Psalms 73:7Their eyes bulge with fat. Their minds pass the limits of conceit.Their eyes stand out from fatness, they exceed the imaginations of their heart:Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish. They have set fire to thy sanctuary: they have defiled the dwelling place of thy name on the earth.
Psalms 73:8They scoff and speak with malice. In arrogance, they threaten oppression. They mock and speak wickedly of oppression, they speak loftily:They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily. They said in their heart, the whole kindred of them together: Let us abolish all the festival days of God from the land.
Psalms 73:9They have set their mouth in the heavens. Their tongue walks through the earth. They set their mouth in the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth. They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth. Our signs we have not seen, there is now no prophet: and he will know us no more.
Psalms 73:10Therefore their people return to them, And they drink up waters of abundance. Therefore his people turn hither, and waters in fulness are wrung out to them. Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them. How long, O God, shall the enemy reproach: is the adversary to provoke thy name for ever?
Psalms 73:11They say, "How does God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?"And they say, How can ùGod know, and is there knowledge in the Most High? And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High? Why dost thou turn away thy hand: and thy right hand out of the midst of thy bosom for ever ?
Psalms 73:12Behold, these are the wicked. Being always at ease, they increase in riches.Behold, these are the wicked, and they prosper in the world: they heap up riches.Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches. But God is our king before ages: he hath wrought salvation in the midst of the earth.
Psalms 73:13Surely in vain I have cleansed my heart, And washed my hands in innocence,Truly have I purified my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency:Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency. Thou by thy strength didst make the sea firm: thou didst crush the heads of the dragons in the waters.
Psalms 73:14For all day long have I been plagued, And punished every morning. For all the day have I been plagued, and chastened every morning. For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.Thou hast broken the heads of the dragon: thou hast given him to be meat for the people of the Ethiopians.
Psalms 73:15If I had said, "I will speak thus;" Behold, I would have betrayed the generation of your children. If I said, I will speak thus, behold, I should be faithless to the generation of thy children. If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.Thou hast broken up the fountains and the torrents: thou hast dried up the Ethan rivers.
Psalms 73:16When I tried to understand this, It was too painful for me;When I thought to be able to know this, it was a grievous task in mine eyes; When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;Thine is the day, and thine is the night: thou hast made the morning light and the sun.
Psalms 73:17Until I entered God's sanctuary, And considered their latter end.Until I went into the sanctuaries of ùGod; [then] understood I their end.Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.Thou hast made all the borders of the earth: the summer and the spring were formed by thee.
Psalms 73:18Surely you set them in slippery places. You throw them down to destruction.Truly thou settest them in slippery places, thou castest them down in ruins.Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.Remember this, the enemy hath reproached the Lord: and a foolish people hath provoked thy name.
Psalms 73:19How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors. How are they suddenly made desolate! they pass away, consumed with terrors. How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.Deliver not up to beasts the souls that confess to thee: and forget not to the end the souls of thy poor.
Psalms 73:20As a dream when one wakes up, So, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies. As a dream, when one awaketh, wilt thou, Lord, on arising despise their image. As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.Have regard to thy covenant: for they that are the obscure of the earth have been filled with dwellings of iniquity.
Psalms 73:21For my soul was grieved. I was embittered in my heart. When my heart was in a ferment, and I was pricked in my reins,Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.Let not the humble be turned away with confusion: the poor and needy shall praise thy name.
Psalms 73:22I was so senseless and ignorant. I was a brute beast before you. Then I was brutish and knew nothing; I was [as] a beast with thee.So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.Arise, O God, judge thy own cause: remember thy reproaches with which the foolish man hath reproached thee all the day.
Psalms 73:23Nevertheless, I am continually with you. You have held my right hand.Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden my right hand;Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.Forget not the voices of thy enemies: the pride of them that hate thee ascendeth continually.
Psalms 73:24You will guide me with your counsel, And afterward receive me to glory.Thou wilt guide me by thy counsel, and after the glory, thou wilt receive me.Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
Psalms 73:25Who do I have in heaven? There is no one on earth who I desire besides you.Whom have I in the heavens? and there is none upon earth I desire beside thee.Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
Psalms 73:26My flesh and my heart fails, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. My flesh and my heart faileth: God is the rock of my heart and my portion for ever.My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
Psalms 73:27For, behold, those who are far from you shall perish. You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to you.For behold, they that are far from thee shall perish; thou destroyest every one that goeth a whoring from thee. For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
Psalms 73:28But it is good for me to come close to God. I have made the Lord Yahweh my refuge, That I may tell of all your works. Psalm 74 A contemplation by Asaph. But as for me, it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord Jehovah, that I may declare all thy works. But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
