Psalms 88:1Yahweh, the God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before you.A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite. O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:Of understanding, for Ethan the Ezrahite.
Psalms 88:2Let my prayer enter into your presence. Turn your ear to my cry.Let my prayer come before thee: incline thy ear to my cry;The mercies of the Lord I will sing for ever. I will shew forth thy truth with my mouth to generation and generation.
Psalms 88:3For my soul is full of troubles. My life draws near to Sheol.For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh to the grave.For thou hast said: Mercy shall be built up for ever in the heavens: thy truth shall be prepared in them.
Psalms 88:4I am counted among those who go down into the pit. I am like a man who has no help,I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:I have made a covenant with my elect: I have sworn to David my servant:
Psalms 88:5Set apart among the dead, Like the slain who lie in the grave, Whom you remember no more. They are cut off from your hand.Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand.Thy seed will I settle for ever. And I will build up thy throne unto generation and generation.
Psalms 88:6You have laid me in the lowest pit, In the darkest depths.Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.The heavens shall confess thy wonders, O Lord: and thy truth in the church of the saints.
Psalms 88:7Your wrath lies heavily on me. You have afflicted me with all your waves. Selah.Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah.For who in the clouds can be compared to the Lord: or who among the sons of God shall be like to God?
Psalms 88:8You have taken my friends from me. You have made me an abomination to them. I am confined, and I can't escape.Thou hast put away my acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination to them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.God, who is glorified in the assembly of the saints: great and terrible above all them that are about him.
Psalms 88:9My eyes are dim from grief. I have called on you daily, Yahweh. I have spread out my hands to you.My eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands to thee.O Lord God of hosts, who is like to thee? thou art mighty, O Lord, and thy truth is round about thee.
Psalms 88:10Do you show wonders to the dead? Do the dead rise up and praise you? Selah.Wilt thou show wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah.Thou rulest the power of the sea: and appeasest the motion of the waves thereof.
Psalms 88:11Is your lovingkindness declared in the grave? Or your faithfulness in Destruction?Shall thy loving-kindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction?Thou hast humbled the proud one, as one that is slain: with the arm of thy strength thou hast scattered thy enemies.
Psalms 88:12Are your wonders made known in the dark? Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?Thine are the heavens, and thine is the earth: the world and the fulness thereof thou hast founded:
Psalms 88:13But to you, Yahweh, I have cried. In the morning, my prayer comes before you.But to thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer come before thee.the north and the sea thou hast created. Thabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name:
Psalms 88:14Yahweh, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me?LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me?thy arm is with might. Let thy hand be strengthened, and thy right hand exalted:
Psalms 88:15I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up. While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted.I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.justice and judgment are the preparation of thy throne. Mercy and truth shall go before thy face:
Psalms 88:16Your fierce wrath has gone over me. Your terrors have cut me off.Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off.blessed is the people that knoweth jubilation. They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance:
Psalms 88:17They came around me like water all day long. They completely engulfed me.They came around me daily like water; they encompassed me together.and in thy name they shall rejoice all the day, and in thy justice they shall be exalted.
Psalms 88:18You have put lover and friend far from me, And my friends into darkness. Psalm 89 A contemplation by Ethan, the Ezrahite.Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and my acquaintance into darkness.For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy good pleasure shall our horn be exalted.
