Psalms 38:1A Psalm of David, `To cause to remember.` Jehovah, in Thy wrath reprove me not, Nor in Thy fury chastise me.<A Psalm. Of David. To keep in memory.> O Lord, be not bitter with me in your wrath; let not your hand be on me in the heat of your passion.{A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.} Jehovah, rebuke me not in thy wrath; neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.Unto the end, for Idithun himself, a canticle of David.
Psalms 38:2For Thine arrows have come down on me, And Thou lettest down upon me Thy hand. For your arrows have gone into my flesh, and I am crushed under the weight of your hand. For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand cometh down upon me.I said: I will take heed to my ways : that I sin not with my tongue. I have set guard to my mouth, when the sinner stood against me.
Psalms 38:3Soundness is not in my flesh, Because of Thine indignation, Peace is not in my bones because of my sin.My flesh is wasted because of your wrath; and there is no peace in my bones because of my sin. There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation; no peace in my bones, because of my sin.I was dumb, and was humbled, and kept silence from good things : and my sorrow was renewed.
Psalms 38:4For mine iniquities have passed over my head, As a heavy burden too heavy for me.For my crimes have gone over my head; they are like a great weight which is more than my strength. For mine iniquities are gone over my head: as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.My heart grew hot within me : and in my meditation a fire shall flame out.
Psalms 38:5Stunk become corrupt have my wounds, Because of my folly. My wounds are poisoned and evil-smelling, because of my foolish behaviour. My wounds stink, they are corrupt, because of my foolishness.I spoke with my tongue : O Lord, make me know my end. And what is the number of my days : that I may know what is wanting to me.
Psalms 38:6I have been bent down, I have been bowed down unto excess, All the day I have gone mourning.I am troubled, I am made low; I go weeping all the day.I am depressed; I am bowed down beyond measure; I go mourning all the day.Behold thou hast made my days measurable : and my substance is as nothing before thee. And indeed all things are vanity : every man living.
Psalms 38:7For my flanks have been full of drought, And soundness is not in my flesh. For my body is full of burning; all my flesh is unhealthy. For my loins are full of burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh.Surely man passeth as an image : yea, and he is disquieted in vain. He storeth up : and he knoweth not for whom he shall gather these things.
Psalms 38:8I have been feeble and smitten unto excess, I have roared from disquietude of heart.I am feeble and crushed down; I gave a cry like a lion because of the grief in my heart.I am faint and broken beyond measure; I roar by reason of the agitation of my heart. And now what is my hope? is it not the Lord? and my substance is with thee.
Psalms 38:9Lord, before Thee [is] all my desire, And my sighing from Thee hath not been hid.Lord, all my desire is before you; my sorrow is not kept secret from you.Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my sighing is not hid from thee.Deliver thou me from all my iniquities : thou hast made me a reproach to the fool.
Psalms 38:10My heart [is] panting, my power hath forsaken me, And the light of mine eyes, Even they are not with me.My heart goes out in pain, my strength is wasting away; as for the light of my eyes, it is gone from me.My heart throbbeth, my strength hath left me; and the light of mine eyes, it also is no more with me.I was dumb, and I opened not my mouth, because thou hast done it.
Psalms 38:11My lovers and my friends over-against my plague stand. And my neighbours afar off have stood. My lovers and my friends keep away from my disease; my relations keep far away.My lovers and mine associates stand aloof from my stroke; and my kinsmen stand afar off.Remove thy scourges from me. The strength of thy hand hath made me faint in rebukes:
Psalms 38:12And those seeking my soul lay a snare, And those seeking my evil Have spoken mischievous things, And they do deceits meditate all the day. Those who have a desire to take my life put nets for me; those who are designing my destruction say evil things against me, all the day their minds are full of deceit. And they that seek after my life lay snares [for me]; and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and meditate deceits all the day long.thou hast corrected man for iniquity. And thou hast made his soul to waste away like a spider : surely in vain is any man disquieted.
Psalms 38:13And I, as deaf, hear not. And as a dumb one who openeth not his mouth. But I kept my ears shut like a man without hearing; like a man without a voice, never opening his mouth. But I, as a deaf [man], hear not; and am as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.Hear my prayer, O Lord, and my supplication : give ear to my tears. Be not silent : for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner as all my fathers were.
Psalms 38:14Yea, I am as a man who heareth not, And in his mouth are no reproofs. So I was like a man whose ears are shut, and in whose mouth there are no sharp words.Yea, I am as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.O forgive me, that I may be refreshed, before I go hence, and be no more.
Psalms 38:15Because for Thee, O Jehovah, I have waited, Thou dost answer, O Lord my God.In you, O Lord, is my hope: you will give me an answer, O Lord, my God.For in thee, Jehovah, do I hope: *thou* wilt answer, O Lord my God.
Psalms 38:16When I said, `Lest they rejoice over me, In the slipping of my foot against me they magnified themselves.I said, Let them not be glad over me; when my foot is moved, let them not be lifted up with pride against me.For I said, Let them not rejoice over me! When my foot slipped, they magnified [themselves] against me.
Psalms 38:17For I am ready to halt, And my pain [is] before me continually. My feet are near to falling, and my sorrow is ever before me.For I am ready to halt, and my pain is continually before me.
Psalms 38:18For mine iniquity I declare, I am sorry for my sin.I will make clear my wrongdoing, with sorrow in my heart for my sin.For I will declare mine iniquity, I am grieved for my sin.
Psalms 38:19And mine enemies [are] lively, They have been strong, and those hating me without cause, Have been multiplied. But they are strong who have hate for me without cause: those who are against me falsely are increased in numbers. But mine enemies are lively, they are strong; and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied:
Psalms 38:20And those paying evil for good accuse me, Because of my pursuing good. They give me back evil for good; they are my haters because I go after the thing which is right. And they that render evil for good are adversaries unto me; because I pursue what is good.
Psalms 38:21Do not forsake me, O Jehovah, My God, be not far from me,Do not give me up, O Lord; O my God, be near to me.Forsake me not, Jehovah; O my God, be not far from me.
Psalms 38:22Haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation!Come quickly to give me help, O Lord, my salvation.Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation.
