Psalms 35:1By David. Strive, Jehovah, with my strivers, fight with my fighters,<Of David.> O Lord, be on my side against those who are judging me; be at war with those who make war against me.Unto the end, for the servant of God, David himself.A Psalm of David. Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.
Psalms 35:2Take hold of shield and buckler, and rise for my help,Be a breastplate to me, and give me your help. The unjust hath said within himself, that he would sin : there is no fear of God before his eyes.Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help.
Psalms 35:3And draw out spear and lance, To meet my pursuers. Say to my soul, `Thy salvation I [am].`Take up your spear and keep back my attackers; say to my soul, I am your salvation. For in his sight he hath done deceitfully, that his iniquity may be found unto hatred.Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say to my soul, I am thy salvation.
Psalms 35:4They are ashamed and blush, those seeking my soul, Turned backward and confounded, Those devising my evil.Let them be overcome and put to shame who make attempts to take my soul; let those who would do me damage be turned back and made foolish. The words of his mouth are iniquity and guile : he would not understand that he might do well.Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.
Psalms 35:5They are as chaff before wind, And a messenger of Jehovah driving away.Let them be like dust from the grain before the wind; let the angel of the Lord send them in flight. He hath devised iniquity on his bed, he hath set himself on every way that is not good : but evil he hath not hated.Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them.
Psalms 35:6Their way is darkness and slipperiness, And a messenger of Jehovah their pursuer.Let their way be dark and full of danger; let them be troubled by the angel of the Lord.O Lord, thy mercy is in heaven, and thy truth reacheth, even to the clouds.Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.
Psalms 35:7For without cause they hid for me their netpit, Without cause they digged for my soul. For without cause they have put a net ready for me secretly, in which to take my soul.Thy justice is as the mountains of God, thy judgments are a great deep. Men and beasts thou wilt preserve, O Lord :For without cause they have hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.
Psalms 35:8Meet him doth desolation he knoweth not, And his net that he hid catcheth him, For desolation he falleth into it.Let destruction come on them without their knowledge; let them be taken themselves in their secret nets, falling into the same destruction.O how hast thou multiplied thy mercy, O God! But the children of men shall put their trust under the covert of thy wings.Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.
Psalms 35:9And my soul is joyful in Jehovah, It rejoiceth in His salvation. And my soul will have joy in the Lord; it will be glad in his salvation. They shall be inebriated with the plenty of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the torrent of thy pleasure. And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation.
Psalms 35:10All my bones say, `Jehovah, who is like Thee, Delivering the poor from the stronger than he, And the poor and needy from his plunderer.`All my bones will say, Lord, who is like you? The saviour of the poor man from the hands of the strong, of him who is poor and in need from him who takes his goods. For with thee is the fountain of life; and in thy light we shall see light. All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like thee, who deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, even the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?
Psalms 35:11Violent witnesses rise up, That which I have not known they ask me.False witnesses got up: they put questions to me about crimes of which I had no knowledge.Extend thy mercy to them that know thee, and thy justice to them that are right in heart.False witnesses arose; they laid to my charge things that I knew not.
Psalms 35:12They pay me evil for good, bereaving my soul,They gave me back evil for good, troubling my soul.Let not the foot of pride come to me, and let not the hand of the sinner move me.They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul.
Psalms 35:13And I in their sickness my clothing [is] sackcloth, I have humbled with fastings my soul, And my prayer unto my bosom returneth. But as for me, when they were ill I put on the clothing of sorrow: I went without food and was sad, and my prayer came back again to my heart. There the workers of iniquity are fallen, they are cast out, and could not stand. But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into my own bosom.
Psalms 35:14As [if] a friend, as [if] my brother, I walked habitually, As a mourner for a mother, Mourning I have bowed down.My behaviour was as if it had been my friend or my brother: I was bent low in grief like one whose mother is dead.I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.
Psalms 35:15And in my halting they have rejoiced, And have been gathered together, Gathered against me were the smiters, And I have not known, They have rent, and they have not ceased; But they took pleasure in my trouble, and came together, yes, low persons came together against me without my knowledge; they never came to an end of wounding me.But in my adversity they rejoiced, and assembled themselves: yes, the abjects assembled themselves against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:
Psalms 35:16With profane ones, mockers in feasts, Gnashing against me their teeth.Like men of deceit they put me to shame; the voice of their wrath was loud against me.With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.
Psalms 35:17Lord, how long dost thou behold? Keep back my soul from their desolations, From young lions my only one.Lord, how long will you be looking on? take my soul from their destruction, my life from the lions.Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.
Psalms 35:18I thank Thee in a great assembly, Among a mighty people I praise Thee.I will give you praise in the great meeting; I will give you honour among a strong people.I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among many people.
Psalms 35:19Mine enemies rejoice not over me [with] falsehood, Those hating me without cause wink the eye.Do not let my haters be glad over me falsely; let not those who are against me without cause make sport of me.Let not them that are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.
Psalms 35:20For they speak not peace, And against the quiet of the land, Deceitful words they devise,For they do not say words of peace; in their deceit they are designing evil things against the quiet ones in the land. For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.
Psalms 35:21And they enlarge against me their mouth, They said, `Aha, aha, our eye hath seen.`Their mouths were open wide against me, and they said, Aha, aha, our eyes have seen it.Yes, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.
Psalms 35:22Thou hast seen, O Jehovah, Be not silent, O Lord be not far from me,You have seen this, O Lord; be not unmoved: O Lord, be not far from me.This thou hast seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.
Psalms 35:23Stir up, and wake to my judgment, My God, and my Lord, to my plea.Be awake, O Lord, be moved to take up my cause, my God and my Lord.Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even to my cause, my God and my Lord.
Psalms 35:24Judge me according to Thy righteousness, O Jehovah my God, And they do not rejoice over me.Be my judge, O Lord my God, in your righteousness; do not let them be glad over me.Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.
Psalms 35:25They do not say in their heart, `Aha, our desire.` They do not say, `We swallowed him up.`Let them not say in their hearts, So we will have it: let them not say, We have put an end to him.Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
Psalms 35:26They are ashamed and confounded together, Who are rejoicing at my evil. They put on shame and confusion, Who are magnifying themselves against me.Let all those who take pleasure in my troubles be shamed and come to nothing: let those who are lifted up against me be covered with shame and have no honour.Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at my hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.
Psalms 35:27They sing and rejoice, who are desiring my righteousness, And they say continually, `Jehovah is magnified, Who is desiring the peace of His servant.`Let those who are on my side give cries of joy; let them ever say, The Lord be praised, for he has pleasure in the peace of his servant.Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favor my righteous cause: yes, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, who hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
Psalms 35:28And my tongue uttereth Thy righteousness, All the day Thy praise! And my tongue will be talking of your righteousness and of your praise all the day.And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.
