Psalms 79:1A Psalm of Asaph. O God, nations have come into Thy inheritance, They have defiled Thy holy temple, They made Jerusalem become heaps,<A Psalm. Of Asaph.> O God, the nations have come into your heritage; they have made your holy Temple unclean; they have made Jerusalem a mass of broken walls.Unto the end, for them that shall he changed, a testimony for Asaph, a psalm.A Psalm of Asaph. O God, the heathen have come into thy inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.
Psalms 79:2They gave the dead bodies of Thy servants Food for the fowls of the heavens, The flesh of Thy saints For the wild beast of the earth.They have given the bodies of your servants as food to the birds of the air, and the flesh of your saints to the beasts of the earth.Give ear, O thou that rulest Israel: thou that leadest Joseph like a sheep. Thou that sittest upon the cherubims, shine forthThe dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be food to the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints, to the beasts of the earth.
Psalms 79:3They have shed their blood As water round about Jerusalem, And there is none burying.Their blood has been flowing like water round about Jerusalem; there was no one to put them in their last resting-place.before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasses. Stir up thy might, and come to save us.Their blood have they shed like water around Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them.
Psalms 79:4We have been a reproach to our neighbours, A scorn and a derision to our surrounders.We are looked down on by our neighbours, we are laughed at and made sport of by those who are round us.Convert us, O God: and shew us thy face, and we shall be saved.We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and derision to them that are around us.
Psalms 79:5Till when, O Jehovah? art Thou angry for ever? Thy jealousy doth burn as fire.How long, O Lord? will you be angry for ever? will your wrath go on burning like fire?O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy servant?How long, LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
Psalms 79:6Pour Thy fury on the nations who have not known Thee, And on kingdoms that have not called in Thy name.Let your wrath be on the nations who have no knowledge of you, and on the kingdoms who have not made prayer to your name.How long wilt thou feed us with the bread of tears: and give us for our drink tears in measure?Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
Psalms 79:7For [one] hath devoured Jacob, And his habitation they have made desolate.For they have taken Jacob for their meat, and made waste his house.Thou hast made us to be a contradiction to our neighbours: and our enemies have scoffed at us.For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling-place.
Psalms 79:8Remember not for us the iniquities of forefathers, Haste, let Thy mercies go before us, For we have been very weak.Do not keep in mind against us the sins of our fathers; let your mercy come to us quickly, for we have been made very low.O God of hosts, convert us: and shew thy face, and we shall be saved.O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily succor us: for we are brought very low.
Psalms 79:9Help us, O God of our salvation, Because of the honour of Thy name, And deliver us, and cover over our sins, For Thy name`s sake.Give us help, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; take us out of danger and give us forgiveness for our sins, because of your name.Thou hast brought a vineyard out of Egypt: thou hast cast cut the Gentiles and planted it.Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.
Psalms 79:10Why do the nations say, `Where [is] their God?` Let be known among the nations before our eyes, The vengeance of the blood of Thy servants that is shed.Why may the nations say, Where is their God? Let payment for the blood of your servants be made openly among the nations before our eyes.Thou wast the guide of its journey in its sight: thou plantedst the roots thereof, and it filled the land.Why should the heathen say, Where is their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight by avenging the blood of thy servants which is shed.
Psalms 79:11Let the groaning of the prisoner come in before Thee, According to the greatness of Thine arm, Leave Thou the sons of death.Let the cry of the prisoner come before you; with your strong arm make free the children of death;The shadow of it covered the hills: and the branches thereof the cedars of God.Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die;
Psalms 79:12And turn Thou back to our neighbours, Sevenfold unto their bosom, their reproach, Wherewith they reproached Thee, O Lord.And give punishment seven times over into the breast of our neighbours for the bitter words which they have said against you, O Lord.It stretched forth its branches unto the sea, and its boughs unto the river.And render to our neighbors seven-fold into their bosom their reproach, with which they have reproached thee, O Lord.
Psalms 79:13And we, Thy people, and the flock of Thy pasture, We give thanks to Thee to the age, To all generations we recount Thy praise!So we your people, and the sheep of your flock, will give you glory for ever: we will go on praising you through all generations.Why hast thou broken down the hedge thereof, so that all they who pass by the way do pluck it?So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will show forth thy praise to all generations.
