| Job 40:1 | And Jehovah doth answer Job, and saith: | ... | Moreover Yahweh answered Job, | And the Lord answering Job out of the whirlwind, said : |
| Job 40:2 | Is the striver with the Mighty instructed? The reprover of God, let him answer it. | Will he who is protesting give teaching to the Ruler of all? Let him who has arguments to put forward against God give an answer. | "Shall he who argues contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it." | Gird up thy loins like a man : I will ask thee, and do thou tell me. |
| Job 40:3 | And Job answereth Jehovah, and saith: | And Job said in answer to the Lord, | Then Job answered Yahweh, | Wilt thou make void my judgment : and condemn me, that thou mayst be justified? |
| Job 40:4 | Lo, I have been vile, What do I return to Thee? My hand I have placed on my mouth. | Truly, I am of no value; what answer may I give to you? I will put my hand on my mouth. | "Behold, I am of small account. What shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth. | And hast thou an arm like God, and canst thou thunder with a voice like him? |
| Job 40:5 | Once I have spoken, and I answer not, And twice, and I add not. | I have said once, and even twice, what was in my mind, but I will not do so again. | I have spoken once, and I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further." | Clothe thyself with beauty, and set thyself up on high and be glorious, and put on goodly garments. |
| Job 40:6 | And Jehovah answereth Job out of the whirlwind, and saith: | Then the Lord made answer to Job out of the storm-wind, and said, | Then Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind, | Scatter the proud in thy indignation, and behold every arrogant man, and humble him. |
| Job 40:7 | Gird, I pray thee, as a man, thy loins, I ask thee, and cause thou Me to know. | Get your strength together like a man of war: I will put questions to you, and you will give me the answers. | "Now brace yourself like a man. I will question you, and you will answer me. | Look on all that are proud, and confound them, and crush the wicked in their place. |
| Job 40:8 | Dost thou also make void My judgment? Dost thou condemn Me, That thou mayest be righteous? | Will you even make my right of no value? will you say that I am wrong in order to make clear that you are right? | Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified? | Hide them in the dust together, and plunge their faces into the pit. |
| Job 40:9 | And an arm like God hast thou? And with a voice like Him dost thou thunder? | Have you an arm like God? have you a voice of thunder like his? | Or have you an arm like God? Can you thunder with a voice like him? | Then I will confess that thy right hand is able to save thee. |
| Job 40:10 | Put on, I pray thee, excellency and loftiness, Yea, honour and beauty put on. | Put on the ornaments of your pride; be clothed with glory and power: | "Now deck yourself with excellency and dignity. Array yourself with honor and majesty. | Behold behemoth whom I made with thee, he eateth grass like an ox. |
| Job 40:11 | Scatter abroad the wrath of thine anger, And see every proud one, and make him low. | Let your wrath be overflowing; let your eyes see all the sons of pride, and make them low. | Pour forth the fury of your anger. Look on everyone who is proud, and bring him low. | His strength is in his loins, and his force in the navel of his belly. |
| Job 40:12 | See every proud one humble him, And tread down the wicked in their place. | Send destruction on all who are lifted up, pulling down the sinners from their places. | Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him. Crush the wicked in their place. | He setteth up his tail like a cedar, the sinews of his testicles are wrapped together. |
| Job 40:13 | Hide them in the dust together, Their faces bind in secret. | Let them be covered together in the dust; let their faces be dark in the secret place of the underworld. | Hide them in the dust together. Bind their faces in the hidden place. | His bones are like pipes of brass, his gristle like plates of iron. |
| Job 40:14 | And even I I do praise thee, For thy right hand giveth salvation to thee. | Then I will give praise to you, saying that your right hand is able to give you salvation. | Then I will also admit to you That your own right hand can save you. | He is the beginning of the ways of God, who made him, he will apply his sword. |
| Job 40:15 | Lo, I pray thee, Behemoth, that I made with thee: Grass as an ox he eateth. | See now the Great Beast, whom I made, even as I made you; he takes grass for food, like the ox. | "See now, behemoth, which I made as well as you. He eats grass as an ox. | To him the mountains bring forth grass : there all the beasts of the field shall play. |
| Job 40:16 | Lo, I pray thee, his power [is] in his loins, And his strength in the muscles of his belly. | His strength is in his body, and his force in the muscles of his stomach. | Look now, his strength is in his loins, His force is in the muscles of his belly. | He sleepeth under the shadow, in the covert of the reed, and in moist places. |
| Job 40:17 | He doth bend his tail as a cedar, The sinews of his thighs are wrapped together, | His tail is curving like a cedar; the muscles of his legs are joined together. | He moves his tail like a cedar: The sinews of his thighs are knit together. | The shades cover his shadow, the willows of the brook shall compass him about. |
| Job 40:18 | His bones [are] tubes of brass, His bones [are] as a bar of iron. | His bones are pipes of brass, his legs are like rods of iron. | His bones are like tubes of brass. His limbs are like bars of iron. | Behold, he will drink up a river, and not wonder : and he trusteth that the Jordan may run into his mouth. |
| Job 40:19 | He [is] a beginning of the ways of God, His Maker bringeth nigh his sword; | He is the chief of the ways of God, made by him for his pleasure. | He is the chief of the ways of God. He who made him gives him his sword. | In his eyes as with a hook he shall take him, and bore through his nostrils with stakes. |
| Job 40:20 | For food do mountains bear for him, And all the beasts of the field play there. | He takes the produce of the mountains, where all the beasts of the field are at play. | Surely the mountains bring him forth food, Where all the animals of the field do play. | Canst thou draw out the leviathan with a hook, or canst thou tie his tongue with a cord? |
| Job 40:21 | Under shades he lieth down, In a secret place of reed and mire. | He takes his rest under the trees of the river, and in the pool, under the shade of the water-plants. | He lies under the lotus-trees, In the covert of the reed, and the marsh. | Canst thou put a ring in his nose, or bore through his jaw with a buckle? |
| Job 40:22 | Cover him do shades, [with] their shadow, Cover him do willows of the brook. | He is covered by the branches of the trees; the grasses of the stream are round him. | The lotuses cover him with their shade. The willows of the brook surround him. | Will he make many supplications to thee, or speak soft words to thee? |
| Job 40:23 | Lo, a flood oppresseth he doth not haste, He is confident though Jordan Doth come forth unto his mouth. | Truly, if the river is overflowing, it gives him no cause for fear; he has no sense of danger, even if Jordan is rushing against his mouth. | Behold, if a river overflows, he doesn't tremble. He is confident, though the Jordan swells even to his mouth. | Will he make a covenant with thee, and wilt thou take him to be a servant for ever? |
| Job 40:24 | Before his eyes doth [one] take him, With snares doth [one] pierce the nose? | Will anyone take him when he is on the watch, or put metal teeth through his nose? | Shall any take him when he is on the watch, Or pierce through his nose with a snare? | Shalt thou play with him as with a bird, or tie him up for thy handmaids? |
