Psalms 56:1To the Overseer. `On the Dumb Dove far off.` A secret treasure of David, in the Philistines` taking hold of him in Gath. Favour me, O God, for man swallowed me up, All the day fighting he oppresseth me,<To the chief music-maker; put to Jonath elem rehokim. Of David. Michtam. When the Philistines took him in Gath.> Have mercy on me, O God, for man is attempting my destruction; every day he makes cruel attacks against me.Be merciful to me, God, for man wants to swallow me up. Psalms 56:2Mine enemies have swallowed up all the day, For many [are] fighting against me, O most High,My haters are ever ready to put an end to me; great numbers are lifting themselves up against me.My enemies want to swallow me up all day long, For they are many who fight proudly against me.Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me: for my soul trusteth in thee. And in the shadow of thy wings will I hope, until iniquity pass away.
Psalms 56:3The day I am afraid I am confident toward Thee.In the time of my fear, I will have faith in you. When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.I will cry to God the most High; to God who hath done good to me.
Psalms 56:4In God I praise His word, in God I have trusted, I fear not what flesh doth to me.In God will I give praise to his word; in God have I put my hope; I will have no fear of what flesh may do to me.In God, I praise his word. In God, I put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?He hath sent from heaven and delivered me: he hath made them a reproach that trod upon me. God hath sent his mercy and his truth,
Psalms 56:5All the day they wrest my words, Concerning me all their thoughts [are] for evil,Every day they make wrong use of my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil. All day long they twist my words. All their thoughts are against me for evil.and he hath delivered my soul from the midst of the young lions. I slept troubled. The sons of men, whose teeth are weapons and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.
Psalms 56:6They assemble, they hide, they watch my heels, When they have expected my soul. They come together, they are waiting in secret places, they take note of my steps, they are waiting for my soul. They conspire and lurk, Watching my steps, they are eager to take my life.Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens, and thy glory above all the earth.
Psalms 56:7By iniquity they escape, In anger the peoples put down, O God.By evil-doing they will not get free from punishment. In wrath, O God, let the peoples be made low.Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, God.They prepared a snare for my feet; and they bowed down my soul. They dug a pit before my face, and they are fallen into it.
Psalms 56:8My wandering Thou hast counted, Thou place Thou my tear in Thy bottle, Are they not in Thy book? You have seen my wanderings; put the drops from my eyes into your bottle; are they not in your record? You number my wanderings. You put my tears into your bottle. Aren't they in your book?My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready: I will Sing, and rehearse a psalm.
Psalms 56:9Then turn back do mine enemies in the day I call. This I have known, that God [is] for me.When I send up my cry to you, my haters will be turned back; I am certain of this, for God is with me.Then shall my enemies turn back in the day that I call. I know this, that God is for me.Arise, O my glory, arise psaltery and harp: I will arise early.
