Ecclesiastes 5:1Keep thy feet when thou goest unto a house of God, and draw near to hear rather than to give of fools the sacrifice, for they do not know they do evil.Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and draw near to hear, rather than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they know not that they do evil.Put your feet down with care when you go to the house of God, for it is better to give ear than to make the burned offerings of the foolish, whose knowledge is only of doing evil.Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.
Ecclesiastes 5:2Cause not thy mouth to hasten, and let not thy heart hasten to bring out a word before God, for God is in the heavens, and thou on the earth, therefore let thy words be few.Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter anything before God: for God is in the heavens, and thou upon earth; therefore let thy words be few.Be not unwise with your mouth, and let not your heart be quick to say anything before God, because God is in heaven and you are on the earth so let not the number of your words be great.Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.
Ecclesiastes 5:3For the dream hath come by abundance of business, and the voice of a fool by abundance of words. For a dream cometh through the multitude of business, and a fool's voice through a multitude of words. As a dream comes from much business, so the voice of a foolish man comes with words in great number. For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by a multitude of words.
Ecclesiastes 5:4When thou vowest a vow to God, delay not to complete it, for there is no pleasure in fools; that which thou vowest complete. When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. When you take an oath before God, put it quickly into effect, because he has no pleasure in the foolish; keep the oath you have taken. When thou vowest a vow to God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.
Ecclesiastes 5:5Better that thou do not vow, than that thou dost vow and dost not complete.Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.It is better not to take an oath than to take an oath and not keep it.Better is it that thou shouldst not vow, than that thou shouldst vow and not pay.
Ecclesiastes 5:6Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin, nor say before the messenger, that `it [is] an error,` why is God wroth because of thy voice, and hath destroyed the work of thy hands?Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an inadvertence. Wherefore should God be wroth at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?Let not your mouth make your flesh do evil. And say not before the angel, It was an error. So that God may not be angry with your words and put an end to the work of your hands.Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: why should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?
Ecclesiastes 5:7For, in the abundance of dreams both vanities and words abound; but fear thou God.For in the multitude of dreams are vanities; so with many words: but fear God.Because much talk comes from dreams and things of no purpose. But let the fear of God be in you.For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God.
Ecclesiastes 5:8If oppression of the poor, and violent taking away of judgment and righteousness thou seest in a province, do not marvel at the matter, for a higher than the high is observing, and high ones [are] over them.If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter; for a higher than the high is watching, and there are higher than they.If you see the poor under a cruel yoke, and law and right being violently overturned in a country, be not surprised, because one authority is keeping watch on another and there are higher than they.If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perversion of judgment and justice in a province, wonder not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there are higher than they.
Ecclesiastes 5:9And the abundance of a land is for all. A king for a field is served. Moreover the earth is every way profitable: the king [himself] is dependent upon the field. It is good generally for a country where the land is worked to have a king. Moreover, the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field.
Ecclesiastes 5:10Whoso is loving silver is not satisfied [with] silver, nor he who is in love with stores [with] increase. Even this [is] vanity. He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver, nor he that loveth abundance with increase. This also is vanity. He who has a love for silver never has enough silver, or he who has love for wealth, enough profit. This again is to no purpose. He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.
Ecclesiastes 5:11In the multiplying of good have its consumers been multiplied, and what benefit [is] to its possessor except the sight of his eyes? When goods increase, they are increased that eat them; and what profit is there to the owner thereof, except the beholding [of them] with his eyes? When goods are increased, the number of those who take of them is increased; and what profit has the owner but to see them? When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners of them, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?
Ecclesiastes 5:12Sweet [is] the sleep of the labourer whether he eat little or much; and the sufficiency of the wealthy is not suffering him to sleep. The sleep of the labourer is sweet, whether he have eaten little or much; but the fulness of the rich doth not suffer him to sleep. The sleep of a working man is sweet, if he has little food or much; but to him who is full, sleep will not come. The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eateth little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
Ecclesiastes 5:13There is a painful evil I have seen under the sun: wealth kept for its possessor, for his evil. There is a grievous evil that I have seen under the sun: riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt; There is a great evil which I have seen under the sun wealth kept by the owner to be his downfall. There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners of them to their hurt.
Ecclesiastes 5:14And that wealth hath been lost in an evil business, and he hath begotten a son and there is nothing in his hand!or those riches perish by some evil circumstance, and if he have begotten a son, there is nothing in his hand. And I saw the destruction of his wealth by an evil chance; and when he became the father of a son he had nothing in his hand. But those riches perish by evil labor: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand.
Ecclesiastes 5:15As he came out from the belly of his mother, naked he turneth back to go as he came, and he taketh not away anything of his labour, that doth go in his hand.As he came forth from his mother's womb, naked shall he go away again as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.As he came from his mother at birth, so does he go again; he gets from his work no reward which he may take away in his hand.As he came into the world, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labor, which he may carry away in his hand.
Ecclesiastes 5:16And this also [is] a painful evil, just as he came, so he goeth, and what advantage [is] to him who laboureth for wind? And this also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came so doth he go away, and what profit hath he, in having laboured for the wind? And this again is a great evil, that in all points as he came so will he go; and what profit has he in working for the wind? And this also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath labored for the wind?
Ecclesiastes 5:17Also all his days in darkness he consumeth, and sadness, and wrath, and sickness abound. All his days also he eateth in darkness, and hath much vexation, and sickness, and irritation. All his days are in the dark, and he has much sorrow, pain, disease, and trouble. All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.
Ecclesiastes 5:18Lo, that which I have seen: [It is] good, because beautiful, to eat, and to drink, and to see good in all one`s labour that he laboureth at under the sun, the number of the days of his life that God hath given to him, for it [is] his portion.Behold what I have seen good and comely: [it is] to eat and to drink, and to enjoy good in all his labour wherewith [man] laboureth under the sun, all the days of his life which God hath given him: for that is his portion. This is what I have seen: it is good and fair for a man to take meat and drink and to have joy in all his work under the sun, all the days of his life which God has given him; that is his reward.Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labor that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.
Ecclesiastes 5:19Every man also to whom God hath given wealth and riches, and hath given him power to eat of it, and to accept his portion, and to rejoice in his labour, this is a gift of God.Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and power to eat thereof, and to take his portion and to rejoice in his labour: that is a gift of God.Every man to whom God has given money and wealth and the power to have pleasure in it and to do his part and have joy in his work: this is given by God.Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat of it, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God.
Ecclesiastes 5:20For he doth not much remember the days of his life, for God is answering through the joy of his heart. For he will not much remember the days of his life, because God answereth [him] with the joy of his heart. He will not give much thought to the days of his life; because God lets him be taken up with the joy of his heart. For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.
