Psalms 48:2Beautiful [for] elevation, A joy of all the land, [is] Mount Zion, The sides of the north, the city of a great king.Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, [on] the sides of the north, the city of the great King.Hear these things, all ye nations: give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world.Beautiful in its high position, the joy of all the earth, is the mountain of Zion, the mountain of God, the town of the great King.
Psalms 48:3God in her high places is known for a tower.God is known in her palaces as a high fortress. All you that are earthborn, and you sons of men: both rich and poor together. In its buildings God is seen to be a high tower.
Psalms 48:4For, lo, the kings met, they passed by together,For behold, the kings assembled themselves, they passed by together; My mouth shall speak wisdom: and the meditation of my heart understanding. For see! the kings came together by agreement, they were joined together.
Psalms 48:5They have seen so they have marvelled, They have been troubled, they were hastened away. They saw, so they marvelled; they were troubled, they fled in consternation:I will incline my ear to a parable; I will open my proposition on the psaltery. They saw it, and so were full of wonder; they were troubled, and went quickly away in fear.
Psalms 48:6Trembling hath seized them there, Pain, as of a travailing woman.Trembling took hold upon them there; anguish, as of a woman in travail. Why shall I fear in the evil day? the iniquity of my heel shall encompass me.Shaking came on them and pain, as on a woman in childbirth.
Psalms 48:7By an east wind Thou shiverest ships of Tarshish. With an east wind thou hast broken the ships of Tarshish. They that trust in their own strength, and glory in the multitude of their riches,By you the ships of Tarshish are broken as by an east wind.
Psalms 48:8As we have heard, so we have seen, In the city of Jehovah of hosts, In the city of our God, God doth establish her to the age. Selah. As we have heard, so have we seen, in the city of Jehovah of hosts, in the city of our God: God doth establish it for ever. Selah. No brother can redeem, nor shall man redeem: he shall not give to God his ransom,As it came to our ears so have we seen it, in the town of the Lord of armies, in the town of our God; God will keep it fixed for ever. (Selah.)
Psalms 48:9We have thought, O God, of Thy kindness, In the midst of Thy temple,We have thought, O God, of thy loving-kindness, in the midst of thy temple.Nor the price of the redemption of his soul: and shall labour for ever,Our thoughts were of your mercy, O God, while we were in your Temple.
Psalms 48:10As [is] Thy name, O God, so [is] Thy praise, Over the ends of the earth, Righteousness hath filled Thy right hand.According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.and shall still live unto the end.As your name is, O God, so is your praise to the ends of the earth; your right hand is full of righteousness.
Psalms 48:11Rejoice doth Mount Zion, The daughters of Judah are joyful, For the sake of Thy judgments.Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments. He shall not see destruction, when he shall see the wise dying: the senseless and the fool shall perish together: And they shall leave their riches to strangers:Let there be joy in the mountain of Zion, and let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of your wise decisions.
Psalms 48:12Compass Zion, and go round her, count her towers,Walk about Zion, and go round about her: count the towers thereof;and their sepulchres shall be their houses for ever. Their dwelling places to all generations: they have called their lands by their names.Make your way about Zion, and go round it, numbering its towers.
Psalms 48:13Set your heart to her bulwark, Consider her high places, So that ye recount to a later generation,Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces: that ye may tell it to the generation following. And man when he was in honour did not understand; he is compared to senseless beasts, and is become like to them.Take note of its strong walls, looking well at its fair buildings; so that you may give word of it to the generation which comes after.
Psalms 48:14That this God [is] our God To the age and for ever, He he doth lead us over death! For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide until death. This way of theirs is a stumblingblock to them: and afterwards they shall delight in their mouth.Because this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide.
