| Psalms 40:1 | To the Overseer. A Psalm of David. I have diligently expected Jehovah, And He inclineth to me, and heareth my cry, | {To the chief Musician. Of David. A Psalm.} I waited patiently for Jehovah; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. | Unto the end, a psalm for David himself. | To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined to me, and heard my cry. |
| Psalms 40:2 | And He doth cause me to come up From a pit of desolation from mire of mud, And He raiseth up on a rock my feet, He is establishing my steps. | And he brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock; he hath established my goings: | Blessed is he that understandeth concerning the needy and the poor : the Lord will deliver him in the evil day. | He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. |
| Psalms 40:3 | And He putteth in my mouth a new song, `Praise to our God.` Many do see and fear, and trust in Jehovah. | And he hath put a new song in my mouth, praise unto our God. Many shall see it, and fear, and shall confide in Jehovah. | The Lord preserve him and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth : and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies. | And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. |
| Psalms 40:4 | O the happiness of the man Who hath made Jehovah his trust, And hath not turned unto the proud, And those turning aside to lies. | Blessed is the man that hath made Jehovah his confidence, and turneth not to the proud, and to such as turn aside to lies. | The Lord help him on his bed of sorrow : thou hast turned all his couch in his sickness. | Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. |
| Psalms 40:5 | Much hast Thou done, Jehovah my God; Thy wonders and Thy thoughts toward us, There is none to arrange unto Thee, I declare and speak: They have been more than to be numbered. | Thou, O Jehovah my God, hast multiplied thy marvellous works, and thy thoughts toward us: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee; would I declare and speak [them], they are more than can be numbered. | I said: O Lord, be thou merciful to me : heal my soul, for I have sinned against thee. | Many, O LORD, my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are toward us, they cannot be reckoned up in order to thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. |
| Psalms 40:6 | Sacrifice and present Thou hast not desired, Ears Thou hast prepared for me, Burnt and sin-offering Thou hast not asked. | Sacrifice and oblation thou didst not desire: ears hast thou prepared me. Burnt-offering and sin-offering hast thou not demanded; | My enemies have spoken evils against me: when shall he die and his name perish? | Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; my ears hast thou opened: burnt-offering and sin-offering hast thou not required. |
| Psalms 40:7 | Then said I, `Lo, I have come,` In the roll of the book it is written of me, | Then said I, Behold, I come, in the volume of the book it is written of me | And if he came in to see me, he spoke vain things : his heart gathered together iniquity to itself. He went out and spoke to the same purpose. | Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, |
| Psalms 40:8 | To do Thy pleasure, my God, I have delighted, And Thy law [is] within my heart. | To do thy good pleasure, my God, is my delight, and thy law is within my heart. | All my enemies whispered together against me : they devised evils to me. | I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. |
| Psalms 40:9 | I have proclaimed tidings of righteousness In the great assembly, lo, my lips I restrain not, O Jehovah, Thou hast known. | I have published righteousness in the great congregation: behold, I have not withheld my lips, Jehovah, *thou* knowest. | They determined against me an unjust word : shall he that sleepeth rise again no more? | I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest. |
| Psalms 40:10 | Thy righteousness I have not concealed In the midst of my heart, Thy faithfulness and Thy salvation I have told, I have not hidden Thy kindness and Thy truth, To the great assembly. | I have not hidden thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy loving-kindness and thy truth from the great congregation. | For even the man of peace, in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, hath greatly supplanted me. | I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy loving-kindness and thy truth from the great congregation. |
| Psalms 40:11 | Thou, O Jehovah, restrainest not Thy mercies from me, Thy kindness and Thy truth do continually keep me. | Withhold not thou, Jehovah, thy tender mercies from me; let thy loving-kindness and thy truth continually preserve me. | But thou, O Lord, have mercy on me, and raise me up again : and I will requite them. | Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy loving-kindness and thy truth continually preserve me. |
| Psalms 40:12 | For compassed me have evils innumerable, Overtaken me have mine iniquities, And I have not been able to see; They have been more than the hairs of my head, And my heart hath forsaken me. | For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I cannot see; they are more than the hairs of my head: and my heart hath failed me. | By this I know, that thou hast had a good will for me : because my enemy shall not rejoice over me. | For innumerable evils have encompassed me: my iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of my head: therefore my heart faileth me. |
| Psalms 40:13 | Be pleased, O Jehovah, to deliver me, O Jehovah, for my help make haste. | Be pleased, O Jehovah, to deliver me; Jehovah, make haste to my help. | But thou hast upheld me by reason of my innocence : and hast established me in thy sight for ever. | Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me. |
| Psalms 40:14 | They are ashamed and confounded together, Who are seeking my soul to destroy it, They are turned backward, And are ashamed, who are desiring my evil. | Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be turned backward and confounded that take pleasure in mine adversity; | Blessed by the Lord the God of Israel from eternity to eternity. So be it. So be it. | Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil. |
| Psalms 40:15 | They are desolate because of their shame, Who are saying to me, `Aha, aha.` | Let them be desolate, because of their shame, that say unto me, Aha! Aha! | | Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say to me, Aha, aha. |
| Psalms 40:16 | All seeking Thee rejoice and are glad in Thee, Those loving Thy salvation say continually, `Jehovah is magnified.` | Let all those that seek thee be glad and rejoice in thee; let such as love thy salvation say continually, Jehovah be magnified! | | Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified. |
| Psalms 40:17 | And I [am] poor and needy, The Lord doth devise for me. My help and my deliverer [art] Thou, O my God, tarry Thou not. | But I am afflicted and needy: the Lord thinketh upon me. Thou art my help and my deliverer: my God, make no delay. | | But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no delay, O my God. |
