Psalms 49:1To the Overseer. By sons of Korah. A Psalm. Hear this, all ye peoples, Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world.{To the chief Musician. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.} Hear this, all ye peoples; give ear, all inhabitants of the world:A psalm for Asaph. The God of gods, the Lord hath spoken: and he hath called the earth. From the rising of the sun, to the going down thereof:To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:
Psalms 49:2Both low and high, together rich and needy.Both men of low and men of high degree, rich and poor alike.out of Sion the loveliness of his beauty.Both low and high, rich and poor together.
Psalms 49:3My mouth speaketh wise things, And the meditations of my heart [are] things of understanding.My mouth shall speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding:God shall come manifestly: our God shall come, and shall not keep silence. A fire shall burn before him: and a mighty tempest shall be round about him.My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
Psalms 49:4I incline to a simile mine ear, I open with a harp my riddle:I will incline mine ear to a parable, I will open my riddle upon the harp.He shall call heaven from above, and the earth, to judge his people.I will incline my ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
Psalms 49:5Why do I fear in days of evil? The iniquity of my supplanters doth compass me.Wherefore should I fear in the days of adversity, [when] the iniquity of my supplanters encompasseth me?Gather ye together his saints to him: who set his covenant before sacrifices.Why should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall encompass me?
Psalms 49:6Those trusting on their wealth, And in the multitude of their riches, Do shew themselves foolish.They depend upon their wealth, and boast themselves in the abundance of their riches. ...And the heavens shall declare his justice: for God is judge.They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
Psalms 49:7A brother doth no one at all ransom, He doth not give to God his atonement.None can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him,Hear, O my people, and I will speak: O Israel, and I will testify to thee: I am God, thy God.None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
Psalms 49:8And precious [is] the redemption of their soul, And it hath ceased to the age.(For the redemption of their soul is costly, and must be given up for ever,)I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices: and thy burnt offerings are always in my sight.(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
Psalms 49:9And still he liveth for ever, He seeth not the pit.That he should still live perpetually, [and] not see corruption.I will not take calves out of thy house: nor he goats out of thy flocks.That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
Psalms 49:10For he seeth wise men die, Together the foolish and brutish perish, And have left to others their wealth.For he seeth that wise men die; all alike, the fool and the brutish perish, and they leave their wealth to others.For all the beasts of the woods are mine: the cattle on the hills, and the oxen.For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
Psalms 49:11Their heart [is]: Their houses [are] to the age, Their tabernacles to all generations. They proclaimed their names over the lands.Their inward thought is, that their houses are for ever, their dwelling-places from generation to generation: they call the lands after their own names.I know all the fowls of the air: and with me is the beauty of the field.Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
Psalms 49:12And man in honour doth not remain, He hath been like the beasts, they have been cut off.Nevertheless, man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.If I should be hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.Nevertheless man being in honor abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
Psalms 49:13This their way [is] folly for them, And their posterity with their sayings are pleased. Selah.This their way is their folly, yet they that come after them delight in their sayings. Selah.Shall I eat the flesh of bullocks? or shall I drink the blood of goats?This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.
Psalms 49:14As sheep for Sheol they have set themselves, Death doth afflict them, And the upright rule over them in the morning, And their form [is] for consumption. Sheol [is] a dwelling for him.Like sheep are they laid in Sheol: Death feedeth on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their comeliness shall be for Sheol to consume, that there be no habitation for them.Offer to God the sacrifice of praise: and pay thy vows to the most High.Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
Psalms 49:15Only, God doth ransom my soul from the hand of Sheol, For He doth receive me. Selah.But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol: for he will receive me. Selah.And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
Psalms 49:16Fear not, when one maketh wealth, When the honour of his house is abundant,Be not afraid when a man becometh rich, when the glory of his house is increased:But to the sinner God hath said: Why dost thou declare my justices, and take my covenant in thy mouth ?Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
Psalms 49:17For at his death he receiveth nothing, His honour goeth not down after him.For when he dieth, he shall carry nothing away; his glory shall not descend after him.Seeing thou hast hated discipline: and hast cast my words behind thee.For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
Psalms 49:18For his soul in his life he blesseth, (And they praise thee when thou dost well for thyself.)Though he blessed his soul in his lifetime, and men will praise thee when thou doest well to thyself,If thou didst see a thief thou didst run with him: and with adulterers thou hast been a partaker.Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.
Psalms 49:19It cometh to the generation of his fathers, For ever they see not the light.It shall go to the generation of his fathers: they shall never see light.Thy mouth hath abounded with evil, and thy tongue framed deceits.He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
Psalms 49:20Man in honour, who understandest not, Hath been like the beasts, they have been cut off!Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.Sitting thou didst speak against thy brother, and didst lay a scandal against thy mother's son:Man that is in honor, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
