| Psalms 56:1 | To the Overseer. `On the Dumb Dove far off.` A secret treasure of David, in the Philistines` taking hold of him in Gath. Favour me, O God, for man swallowed me up, All the day fighting he oppresseth me, | {To the chief Musician. On Jonathelem-rechokim. Of David. Michtam; when the Philistines took him in Gath.} Be gracious unto me, O God; for man would swallow me up: all the day long fighting he oppresseth me. | Be merciful to me, God, for man wants to swallow me up. All day long, he attacks and oppresses me. | To the chief Musician upon Jonathelem-rechokim, Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath. Be merciful to me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me. |
| Psalms 56:2 | Mine enemies have swallowed up all the day, For many [are] fighting against me, O most High, | Mine enemies would swallow [me] up all the day long; for they are many that fight against me haughtily. | My enemies want to swallow me up all day long, For they are many who fight proudly against me. | My enemies would daily swallow me up: for they are many that fight against me, O thou Most High. |

In God, I put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? | In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do to me. |

All their thoughts are against me for evil. | Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. |
| Psalms 56:6 | They assemble, they hide, they watch my heels, When they have expected my soul. | They gather themselves together, they hide themselves; they mark my steps, because they wait for my soul. | They conspire and lurk, Watching my steps, they are eager to take my life. | They assemble themselves, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul. |
| Psalms 56:7 | By iniquity they escape, In anger the peoples put down, O God. | Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God. | Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, God. | Shall they escape by iniquity; in thy anger cast down the people, O God. |
| Psalms 56:8 | My wandering Thou hast counted, Thou place Thou my tear in Thy bottle, Are they not in Thy book? | *Thou* countest my wanderings; put my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? | You number my wanderings. You put my tears into your bottle. Aren't they in your book? | Thou numberest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? |
| Psalms 56:9 | Then turn back do mine enemies in the day I call. This I have known, that God [is] for me. | Then shall mine enemies return backward in the day when I call: this I know, for God is for me. | Then shall my enemies turn back in the day that I call. I know this, that God is for me. | When I cry to thee, then shall my enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me. |
