Luke 22:1Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover. Now the feast of unleavened bread was near, which is called the Passover.Now the feast of unleavened bread, which is called the pasch, was at hand.
Luke 22:2And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death; for they feared the people. And the chief priests and the scribes were looking for a chance to put him to death, but they went in fear of the people.And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put Jesus to death: but they feared the people.
Luke 22:3And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. And Satan came into Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve.And Satan entered into Judas, who was surnamed Iscariot, one of the twelve.
Luke 22:4And he went away, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might deliver him unto them. And he went away and had a discussion with the chief priests and the rulers, about how he might give him up to them.And he went, and discoursed with the chief priests and the magistrates, how he might betray him to them.
Luke 22:5And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money. And they were glad, and undertook to give him money.And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
Luke 22:6And he consented, and sought opportunity to deliver him unto them in the absence of the multitude. And he made an agreement with them to give him up to them, if he got a chance, when the people were not present.And he promised. And he sought opportunity to betray him in the absence of the multitude.
Luke 22:7And the day of unleavened bread came, on which the passover must be sacrificed. And the day of unleavened bread came, when the Passover lamb is put to death.And the day of the unleavened bread came, on which it was necessary that the pasch should be killed.
Luke 22:8And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and make ready for us the passover, that we may eat. And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, Go and make the Passover ready for us, so that we may take it.And he sent Peter and John, saying: Go, and prepare for us the pasch, that we may eat.
Luke 22:9And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we make ready? And they said to him, Where are we to get it ready?But they said: Where wilt thou that we prepare?
Luke 22:10And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house whereinto he goeth. And he said to them, When you go into the town you will see a man coming to you with a vessel of water; go after him into the house into which he goes.And he said to them: Behold, as you go into the city, there shall meet you a man carrying a pitcher of water: follow him into the house where he entereth in.
Luke 22:11And ye shall say unto the master of the house, The Teacher saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? And say to the master of the house, The Master says, Where is the guest-room, where I may take the Passover with my disciples?And you shall say to the goodman of the house: The master saith to thee, Where is the guest chamber, where I may eat the pasch with my disciples?
Luke 22:12And he will show you a large upper room furnished: there make ready. And he will take you up to a great room with a table and seats: there make ready.And he will shew you a large dining room, furnished; and there prepare.
Luke 22:13And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover. And they went, and it was as he had said: and they made the Passover ready.And they going, found as he had said to them, and made ready the pasch.
Luke 22:14And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the apostles with him. And when the time had come, he took his seat, and the Apostles with him.And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
Luke 22:15And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: And he said, I have had a great desire to keep this Passover with you before I come to my death;And he said to them: With desire I have desired to eat this pasch with you, before I suffer.
Luke 22:16for I say unto you, I shall not eat it, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. For I say to you, I will not take it till it is made complete in the kingdom of God.For I say to you, that from this time I will not eat it, till it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
Luke 22:17And he received a cup, and when he had given thanks, he said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: And he took a cup and, having given praise, he said, Make division of this among yourselves;And having taken the chalice, he gave thanks, and said: Take, and divide it among you:
Luke 22:18for I say unto you, I shall not drink from henceforth of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. For I say to you, I will not take of the fruit of the vine till the kingdom of God has come.For I say to you, that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, till the kingdom of God come.
Luke 22:19And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and gave to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. And he took bread and, having given praise, he gave it to them when it had been broken, saying, This is my body, which is given for you: do this in memory of me.And taking bread, he gave thanks, and brake; and gave to them, saying: This is my body, which is given for you. Do this for a commemoration of me.
Luke 22:20And the cup in like manner after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, [even] that which is poured out for you. And in the same way, after the meal, he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new testament, made with my blood which is given for you.In like manner the chalice also, after he had supped, saying: This is the chalice, the new testament in my blood, which shall be shed for you.
Luke 22:21But behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. But the hand of him who is false to me is with me at the table.But yet behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
Luke 22:22For the Son of man indeed goeth, as it hath been determined: but woe unto that man through whom he is betrayed! For it will be done to the Son of man after the purpose of God, but unhappy is that man by whom he is given up.And the Son of man indeed goeth, according to that which is determined: but yet, woe to that man by whom he shall be betrayed.
Luke 22:23And they began to question among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing. And they were wondering among themselves which of them it was who would do this thing.And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
Luke 22:24And there arose also a contention among them, which of them was accounted to be greatest. And there was an argument among them about which of them was the greatest.And there was also a strife amongst them, which of them should seem to be the greater.
Luke 22:25And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles have lordship over them; and they that have authority over them are called Benefactors. And he said, The kings of the Gentiles are lords over them, and those who have authority are given names of honour.And he said to them: The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and they that have power over them, are called beneficent.
Luke 22:26But ye [shall] not [be] so: but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. But let it not be so with you; but he who is greater, let him become like the younger; and he who is chief, like a servant.But you not so: but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger; and he that is the leader, as he that serveth.
Luke 22:27For which is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am in the midst of you as he that serveth. For which is greater, the guest who is seated at a meal or the servant who is waiting on him? is it not the guest? but I am among you as a servant.For which is greater, he that sitteth at table, or he that serveth? Is it not he that sitteth at table? But I am in the midst of you, as he that serveth:
Luke 22:28But ye are they that have continued with me in my temptations; But you are those who have kept with me through my troubles;And you are they who have continued with me in my temptations:
Luke 22:29and I appoint unto you a kingdom, even as my Father appointed unto me, And I will give you a kingdom as my Father has given one to me,And I dispose to you, as my Father hath disposed to me, a kingdom;
Luke 22:30that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom; and ye shall sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. So that you may take food and drink at my table in my kingdom, and be seated like kings, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.That you may eat and drink at my table, in my kingdom: and may sit upon thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Luke 22:31Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat: Simon, Simon, Satan has made a request to have you, so that he may put you to the test as grain is tested:And the Lord said: Simon, Simon, behold Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
Luke 22:32but I made supplication for thee, that thy faith fail not; and do thou, when once thou hast turned again, establish thy brethren. But I have made prayer for you, that your faith may not go from you: and when you are turned again, make your brothers strong.But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and thou, being once converted, confirm thy brethren.
Luke 22:33And he said unto him, Lord, with thee I am ready to go both to prison and to death. And he said to him, Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.Who said to him: Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
Luke 22:34And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, until thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me. And he said, I say to you, Peter, before the cock's second cry today, you will say three times that you have no knowledge of me.And he said: I say to thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, till thou thrice deniest that thou knowest me. And he said to them:
Luke 22:35And he said unto them, When I sent you forth without purse, and wallet, and shoes, lacked ye anything? And they said, Nothing. And he said to them, When I sent you out without money or bag or shoes, were you in need of anything? And they said, Nothing.When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, did you want anything?
Luke 22:36And he said unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a wallet; and he that hath none, let him sell his cloak, and buy a sword. And he said to them, But now, he who has a money-bag, or a bag for food, let him take it: and he who has not, let him give his coat for money and get a sword.But they said: Nothing. Then said he unto them: But now he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a scrip; and he that hath not, let him sell his coat, and buy a sword.
Luke 22:37For I say unto you, that this which is written must be fulfilled in me, And he was reckoned with transgressors: for that which concerneth me hath fulfilment. For I say to you that these words will be put into effect in me, And he was numbered among the evil-doers: for what has been said in the Writings about me has an end.For I say to you, that this that is written must yet be fulfilled in me: And with the wicked was he reckoned. For the things concerning me have an end.
Luke 22:38And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough. And they said, Lord, here are two swords. And he said, It is enough.But they said: Lord, behold here are two swords. And he said to them, It is enough.
Luke 22:39And he came out, and went, as his custom was, unto the mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed him. And he came out, and went, as his way was, to the Mountain of Olives, and the disciples went with him.And going out, he went, according to his custom, to the mount of Olives. And his disciples also followed him.
Luke 22:40And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. And when he came to the place, he said to them, Make a prayer that you may not be put to the test.And when he was come to the place, he said to them: Pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
Luke 22:41And he was parted from them about a stone's cast; and he kneeled down and prayed, And he went a little distance away from them and, falling on his knees in prayer, he said,And he was withdrawn away from them a stone's cast; and kneeling down, he prayed,
Luke 22:42saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. Father, if it is your pleasure, take this cup from me: but still, let your pleasure, not mine, be done.Saying: Father, if thou wilt, remove this chalice from me: but yet not my will, but thine be done.
Luke 22:43And there appeared unto him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And an angel from heaven came to him, to give him strength.And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony, he prayed the longer.
Luke 22:44And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became as it were great drops of blood falling down upon the ground. And being in great trouble of soul, the force of his prayer became stronger, and great drops, like blood, came from him, falling to the earth.And his sweat became as drops of blood, trickling down upon the ground.
Luke 22:45And when he rose up from his prayer, he came unto the disciples, and found them sleeping for sorrow, And, getting up from prayer, he came to the disciples, and saw that they were sleeping for sorrow.And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow.
Luke 22:46and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, that ye enter not into temptation. And he said, Why are you sleeping? Get up, and give yourselves to prayer, so that you may not be put to the test.And he said to them: Why sleep you? arise, pray, lest you enter into temptation.
Luke 22:47While he yet spake, behold, a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them; and he drew near unto Jesus to kiss him. And while he was saying these words, there came a band of people, and Judas, one of the twelve, was in front of them, and he came near to Jesus to give him a kiss.As he was yet speaking, behold a multitude; and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near to Jesus, for to kiss him.
Luke 22:48But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss? But Jesus said to him, Judas, will you be false to the Son of man with a kiss?And Jesus said to him: Judas, dost thou betray the Son of man with a kiss?
Luke 22:49And when they that were about him saw what would follow, they said, Lord, shall we smite with the sword? And when those who were with him saw what was coming, they said, Lord, may we not make use of our swords?And they that were about him, seeing what would follow, said to him: Lord, shall we strike with the sword?
Luke 22:50And a certain one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his right ear. And one of them gave a blow to the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
Luke 22:51But Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye [them] thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him. But Jesus, answering, said, Put up with this, at least. And touching his ear, he made it well.But Jesus answering, said: Suffer ye thus far. And when he had touched his ear, he healed him.
Luke 22:52And Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and elders, that were come against him, Are ye come out, as against a robber, with swords and staves? And Jesus said to the chief priests and the captains of the Temple and the rulers, who had come against him, Have you come out as against a thief, with swords and sticks?And Jesus said to the chief priests, and magistrates of the temple, and the ancients, that were come unto him: Are ye come out, as it were against a thief, with swords and clubs?
Luke 22:53When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched not forth your hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness. When I was in the Temple with you every day, your hands were not stretched out against me: but this is your hour, and the authority of the dark power.When I was daily with you in the temple, you did not stretch forth your hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
Luke 22:54And they seized him, and led him [away], and brought him into the high priest's house. But Peter followed afar off. And they made him a prisoner and took him away to the house of the high priest. But Peter went after them at a distance.And apprehending him, they led him to the high priest's house. But Peter followed afar off.
Luke 22:55And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the court, and had sat down together, Peter sat in the midst of them. And a fire was lighted in the middle of the open square, and they were seated together, and Peter was among them.And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were sitting about it, Peter was in the midst of them.
Luke 22:56And a certain maid seeing him as he sat in the light [of the fire], and looking stedfastly upon him, said, This man also was with him. And a certain woman-servant, seeing him in the light of the fire, and looking at him with attention, said, This man was with him.Whom when a certain servant maid had seen sitting at the light, and had earnestly beheld him, she said: This man also was with him.
Luke 22:57But he denied, saying, Woman, I know him not. But he said, Woman, it is not true; I have no knowledge of him.But he denied him, saying: Woman, I know him not.
Luke 22:58And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou also art [one] of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not. And after a little time, another saw him and said, You are one of them; and he said, Man, I am not.And after a little while, another seeing him, said: Thou also art one of them. But Peter said: O man, I am not.
Luke 22:59And after the space of about one hour another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this man also was with him; for he is a Galilaean. And after about an hour, another man said, with decision, Certainly this man was with him, for he is a Galilaean.And after the space, as it were of one hour, another certain man affirmed, saying: Of a truth, this man was also with him; for he is also a Galilean.
Luke 22:60But Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. And Peter said, Man, I have no knowledge of these things of which you are talking. And straight away, while he was saying these words, there came the cry of a cock.And Peter said: Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, as he was yet speaking, the cock crew.
Luke 22:61And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how that he said unto him, Before the cock crow this day thou shalt deny me thrice. And the Lord, turning, gave Peter a look. And the words of the Lord came to Peter's mind, how he had said, This night, before the hour of the cock's cry, you will be false to me three times.And the Lord turning looked on Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, as he had said: Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
Luke 22:62And he went out, and wept bitterly. And he went out, weeping bitterly.And Peter going out, wept bitterly.
Luke 22:63And the men that held [Jesus] mocked him, and beat him. And the men in whose hands Jesus was, made sport of him and gave him blows.And the men that held him, mocked him, and struck him.
Luke 22:64And they blindfolded him, and asked him, saying, Prophesy: who is he that struck thee? And, covering his eyes, they said to him, Are you prophet enough to say who gave you that blow?And they blindfolded him, and smote his face. And they asked him, saying: Prophesy, who is it that struck thee?
Luke 22:65And many other things spake they against him, reviling him. And they said a number of other evil things against him.And blaspheming, many other things they said against him.
Luke 22:66And as soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people was gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away into their council, saying, And when it was day, the rulers of the people came together, with the chief priests and the scribes, and they took him before their Sanhedrin, saying,And as soon as it was day, the ancients of the people, and the chief priests and scribes, cane together; and they brought him into their council, saying: If thou be the Christ, tell us.
Luke 22:67If thou art the Christ, tell us. But he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe: If you are the Christ, say so. But he said, If I say so you will not have belief;And he saith to them: If I shall tell you, you will not believe me.
Luke 22:68and if I ask [you], ye will not answer. And if I put a question to you, you will not give an answer.And if I shall also ask you, you will not answer me, nor let me go.
Luke 22:69But from henceforth shall the Son of man be seated at the right hand of the power of God. But in the future the Son of man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.But hereafter the Son of man shall be sitting on the right hand of the power of God.
Luke 22:70And they all said, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am. And they all said, Are you then the Son of God? and he said, You say that I am.Then said they all: Art thou then the Son of God? Who said: You say that I am.
Luke 22:71And they said, What further need have we of witness? for we ourselves have heard from his own mouth. And they said, What more need have we of witness? we have the very words of his mouth.And they said: What need we any further testimony? for we ourselves have heard it from his own mouth.
