| Matthew 13:1 | On that day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. | On that day Jesus went out of the house and was seated by the seaside. | That same day Jesus had left the house and was sitting on the shore of the Lake, |
| Matthew 13:2 | And there were gathered unto him great multitudes, so that he entered into a boat, and sat; and all the multitude stood on the beach. | And great numbers of people came together to him, so that he got into a boat; and the people took up their position by the sea. | when a vast multitude of people crowded round Him. He therefore went on board a boat and sat there, while all the people stood on the shore. |
| Matthew 13:3 | And he spake to them many things in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went forth to sow; | And he gave them teaching in the form of a story, saying, A man went out to put seed in the earth; | He then spoke many things to them in figurative language. "The sower goes out," He said, "to sow. |
| Matthew 13:4 | and as he sowed, some [seeds] fell by the way side, and the birds came and devoured them: | And while he did so, some seeds were dropped by the wayside, and the birds came and took them for food: | As he sows, some of the seed falls by the way-side, and the birds come and peck it up. |
| Matthew 13:5 | and others fell upon the rocky places, where they had not much earth: and straightway they sprang up, because they had no deepness of earth: | And some of the seed went among the stones, where it had not much earth, and straight away it came up because the earth was not deep: | Some falls on rocky ground, where it has but scanty soil. It quickly shows itself above ground, because it has no depth of earth; |
| Matthew 13:6 | and when the sun was risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. | And when the sun was high, it was burned; and because it had no root it became dry and dead. | but when the sun is risen, it is scorched by the heat, and through having no root it withers up. |
| Matthew 13:7 | And others fell upon the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them: | And some seeds went among thorns, and the thorns came up and they had no room for growth: | Some falls among the thorns; but the thorns spring up and stifle it. |
| Matthew 13:8 | and others fell upon the good ground, and yielded fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. | And some, falling on good earth, gave fruit, some a hundred, some sixty, some thirty times as much. | But a portion falls upon good ground, and gives a return, some a hundred for one, some sixty, some thirty. |

| Matthew 13:11 | And he answered and said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. | And he said to them in answer, To you is given the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. | "Because," He replied, "while to you it is granted to know the secrets of the Kingdom of the Heavens, to them it is not. |
| Matthew 13:12 | For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath. | Because whoever has, to him will be given, and he will have more; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. | For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but whoever has not, from him even what he has shall be taken away. |
| Matthew 13:13 | Therefore speak I to them in parables; because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. | For this reason I put things into the form of stories; because they see without seeing, and give ear without hearing, and the sense is not clear to them. | I speak to them in figurative language for this reason, that while looking they do not see, and while hearing they neither hear nor understand. |
| Matthew 13:14 | And unto them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive: | And for them the words of Isaiah have come true, Though you give ear, you will not get knowledge; and seeing, you will see, but the sense will not be clear to you: | And in regard to them the prophecy of Isaiah is receiving signal fulfilment: "`You will hear and hear and by no means understand, and you will look and look and by no means see. |
| Matthew 13:15 | For this people's heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I should heal them. | For the heart of this people has become fat and their ears are slow in hearing and their eyes are shut; for fear that they might see with their eyes and give hearing with their ears and become wise in their hearts and be turned again to me, so that I might make them well. | For this people's mind is stupefied, their hearing has become dull, and their eyes they have closed; to prevent their ever seeing with their eyes, or hearing with their ears, or understanding with their minds, and turning back, so that I might heal them.' |
| Matthew 13:16 | But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear. | But a blessing be on your eyes, because they see; and on your ears, because they are open. | "But as for you, blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. |
| Matthew 13:17 | For verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not. | For truly, I say to you that prophets and upright men had a desire to see the things which you see, and saw them not; and to have knowledge of the words which have come to your ears, and they had it not. | For I solemnly tell you that many Prophets and holy men have longed to see the sights you see, and have not seen them, and to hear the words you hear, and have not heard them. |
| Matthew 13:18 | Hear then ye the parable of the sower. | Give ear, then, to the story of the man who put the seed in the earth. | "To you then I will explain the parable of the Sower. |
| Matthew 13:19 | When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, [then] cometh the evil [one], and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side. | When the word of the kingdom comes to anyone, and the sense of it is not clear to him, then the Evil One comes, and quickly takes away that which was put in his heart. He is the seed dropped by the wayside. | When a man hears the Message concerning the Kingdom and does not understand it, the Evil one comes and catches away what has been sown in his heart. This is he who has received the seed by the road-side. |
| Matthew 13:20 | And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it; | And that which went on the stones, this is he who, hearing the word, straight away takes it with joy; | He who has received the seed on the rocky ground is the man who hears the Message and immediately receives it with joy. |
| Matthew 13:21 | yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth. | But having no root in himself, he goes on for a time; and when trouble comes or pain, because of the word, he quickly becomes full of doubts. | It has struck no root, however, within him. He continues for a time, but when suffering comes, or persecution, because of the Message, he at once stumbles and falls. |
| Matthew 13:22 | And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. | And that which was dropped among the thorns, this is he who has the word; and the cares of this life, and the deceits of wealth, put a stop to the growth of the word and it gives no fruit. | He who has received the seed among the thorns is the man who hears the Message, but the cares of the present age and the delusions of riches quite stifle the Message, and it becomes unfruitful. |
| Matthew 13:23 | And he that was sown upon the good ground, this is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; who verily beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. | And the seed which was put in good earth, this is he who gives ear to the word, and gets the sense of it; who gives fruit, some a hundred, some sixty, some thirty times as much. | But he who has received the seed on good ground is he who hears and understands. Such hearers give a return, and yield one a hundred for one, another sixty, another thirty.") |

| Matthew 13:26 | But when the blade sprang up and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. | But when the green stem came up and gave fruit, the evil plants were seen at the same time. | But when the blade shoots up and the grain is formed, then appears the darnel also. |
| Matthew 13:27 | And the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it tares? | And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, Sir, did you not put good seed in your field? how then has it evil plants? | "So the farmer's men come and ask him, "`Sir, was it not good seed that you sowed on your land? Where then does the darnel come from?' |
| Matthew 13:28 | And he said unto them, An enemy hath done this. And the servants say unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? | And he said, Someone has done this in hate. And the servants say to him, Is it your pleasure that we go and take them up? | "`Some enemy has done this,' he said. "`Shall we go, and collect it?' the men inquire. |
| Matthew 13:29 | But he saith, Nay; lest haply while ye gather up the tares, ye root up the wheat with them. | But he says, No, for fear that by chance while you take up the evil plants, you may be rooting up the grain with them. | "`No,' he replied, `for fear that while collecting the darnel you should at the same time root up the wheat with it. |
| Matthew 13:30 | Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather up first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn. | Let them come up together till the getting in of the grain; and then I will say to the workers, Take up first the evil plants, and put them together for burning: but put the grain into my store-house. | Leave both to grow together until the harvest, and at harvest-time I will direct the reapers, Collect the darnel first, and make it up into bundles to burn it, but bring all the wheat into my barn.'" |
