Hebrews 4:1Let us fear therefore, lest haply, a promise being left of entering into his rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it. Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left of entering into his rest, any one of you might seem to have failed [of it].Let us then, though we still have God's word that we may come into his rest, go in fear that some of you may be unable to do so.
Hebrews 4:2For indeed we have had good tidings preached unto us, even as also they: but the word of hearing did not profit them, because it was not united by faith with them that heard. For indeed we have had glad tidings presented to us, even as they also; but the word of the report did not profit *them*, not being mixed with faith in those who heard.And, truly, the good news came to us, even as it did to them; but the hearing of the word did them no good, because they were not united in faith with the true hearers.
Hebrews 4:3For we who have believed do enter into that rest; even as he hath said, As I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For we enter into the rest who have believed; as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, If they shall enter into my rest; although the works had been completed from [the] foundation of [the] world.For those of us who have belief come into his rest; even as he has said, As I said in my oath when I was angry, They may not come into my rest: though the works were done from the time of the making of the world.
Hebrews 4:4For he hath said somewhere of the seventh [day] on this wise, And God rested on the seventh day from all his works; For he has said somewhere of the seventh [day] thus, And God rested on the seventh day from all his works:For in one place he has said of the seventh day, And God had rest from all his works on the seventh day;
Hebrews 4:5and in this [place] again, They shall not enter into my rest. and in this again, If they shall enter into my rest.And in the same place he says again, They will not come into my rest.
Hebrews 4:6Seeing therefore it remaineth that some should enter thereinto, and they to whom the good tidings were before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience, Seeing therefore it remains that some enter into it, and those who first received the glad tidings did not enter in on account of not hearkening to the word,So that as it is clear that some have to go in, and that the first hearers of the good news were not able to go in because they went against God's orders,
Hebrews 4:7he again defineth a certain day, To-day, saying in David so long a time afterward (even as hath been said before), To-day if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts. again he determines a certain day, saying, in David, 'To-day,' after so long a time; (according as it has been said before), To-day, if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.After a long time, again naming a certain day, he says in David, Today (as he had said before), Today if you will let his voice come to your ears, be not hard of heart,
Hebrews 4:8For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day. For if Jesus had brought them into rest, he would not have spoken afterwards about another day.For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have said anything about another day.
Hebrews 4:9There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God. There remains then a sabbatism to the people of God.So that there is still a Sabbath-keeping for the people of God.
Hebrews 4:10For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his. For he that has entered into his rest, he also has rested from his works, as God did from his own.For the man who comes into his rest has had rest from his works, as God did from his.
Hebrews 4:11Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience. Let us therefore use diligence to enter into that rest, that no one may fall after the same example of not hearkening to the word.Because of this, let us have a strong desire to come into that rest, and let no one go after the example of those who went against God's orders.
Hebrews 4:12For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. For the word of God [is] living and operative, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and penetrating to [the] division of soul and spirit, both of joints and marrow, and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of [the] heart.For the word of God is living and full of power, and is sharper than any two-edged sword, cutting through and making a division even of the soul and the spirit, the bones and the muscles, and quick to see the thoughts and purposes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:13And there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do. And there is not a creature unapparent before him; but all things [are] naked and laid bare to his eyes, with whom we have to do.And there is nothing made which is not completely clear to him; there is nothing covered, but all things are open to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Hebrews 4:14Having then a great high priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. Having therefore a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast the confession.Having then a great high priest, who has made his way through the heavens, even Jesus the Son of God, let us be strong in our faith.
Hebrews 4:15For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin. For we have not a high priest not able to sympathise with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.For we have not a high priest who is not able to be touched by the feelings of our feeble flesh; but we have one who has been tested in all points as we ourselves are tested, but without sin.
Hebrews 4:16Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help [us] in time of need. Let us approach therefore with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and find grace for seasonable help.Then let us come near to the seat of grace without fear, so that mercy may be given to us, and we may get grace for our help in time of need.
