Acts 28:1And when we were escaped, then we knew that the island was called Melita. And when we got safe [to land] we then knew that the island was called Melita.And when we had escaped, then we knew that the island was called Melita. But the barbarians shewed us no small courtesy.
Acts 28:2And the barbarians showed us no common kindness; for they kindled a fire, and received us all, because of the present rain, and because of the cold. But the barbarians shewed us no common kindness; for, having kindled a fire, they took us all in because of the rain that was falling and because of the cold.For kindling a fire, they refreshed us all, because of the present rain, and of the cold.
Acts 28:3But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out by reason of the heat, and fastened on his hand. And Paul having gathered a [certain] quantity of sticks together in a bundle and laid [it] on the fire, a viper coming out from the heat seized his hand.And when Paul had gathered together a bundle of sticks, and had laid them on the fire, a viper coming out of the heat, fastened on his hand.
Acts 28:4And when the barbarians saw the [venomous] creature hanging from his hand, they said one to another, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped from the sea, yet Justice hath not suffered to live. And when the barbarians saw the beast hanging from his hand, they said to one another, This man is certainly a murderer, whom, [though] saved out of the sea, Nemesis has not allowed to live.And when the barbarians saw the beast hanging on his hand, they said one to another: Undoubtedly this man is a murderer, who though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance doth not suffer him to live.
Acts 28:5Howbeit he shook off the creature into the fire, and took no harm. *He* however, having shaken off the beast into the fire, felt no harm.And he indeed shaking off the beast into the fire, suffered no harm.
Acts 28:6But they expected that he would have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but when they were long in expectation and beheld nothing amiss came to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god. But *they* expected that he would have swollen or fallen down suddenly dead. But when they had expected a long time and saw nothing unusual happen to him, changing their opinion, they said he was a god.But they supposed that he would begin to swell up, and that he would suddenly fall down and die. But expecting long, and seeing that there came no harm to him, changing their minds, they said, that he was a god.
Acts 28:7Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius, who received us, and entertained us three days courteously. Now in the country surrounding that place were the lands belonging to the chief man of the island, by name Publius, who received us and gave [us] hospitality three days in a very friendly way.Now in these places were possessions of the chief man of the island, named Publius, who receiving us, for three days entertained us courteously.
Acts 28:8And it was so, that the father of Publius lay sick of fever and dysentery: unto whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laying his hands on him healed him. And it happened that the father of Publius lay ill of fever and dysentery; to whom Paul entered in, and having prayed and laid his hands on him cured him.And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever, and of a bloody flux. To whom Paul entered in; and when he had prayed, and laid his hands on him, he healed him.
Acts 28:9And when this was done, the rest also that had diseases in the island came, and were cured: But this having taken place, the rest also who had sicknesses in the island came and were healed:Which being done, all that had diseases in the island, came and were healed:
Acts 28:10who also honored us with many honors; and when we sailed, they put on board such things as we needed. who also honoured us with many honours, and on our leaving they made presents to us of what should minister to our wants.Who also honoured us with many honours, and when we were to set sail, they laded us with such things as were necessary.
Acts 28:11And after three months we set sail in a ship of Alexandria which had wintered in the island, whose sign was The Twin Brothers. And after three months we sailed in a ship which had wintered in the island, an Alexandrian, with [the] Dioscuri for its ensign.And after three months, we sailed in a ship of Alexandria, that had wintered in the island, whose sign was the Castors.
Acts 28:12And touching at Syracuse, we tarried there three days. And having come to Syracuse we remained three days.And when we were come to Syracusa, we tarried there three days.
Acts 28:13And from thence we made a circuit, and arrived at Rhegium: and after one day a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli; Whence, going in a circuitous course, we arrived at Rhegium; and after one day, the wind having changed to south, on the second day we came to Puteoli,From thence, compassing by the shore, we came to Rhegium: and after one day, the south wind blowing, we came the second day to Puteoli;
Acts 28:14where we found brethren, and were entreated to tarry with them seven days: and so we came to Rome. where, having found brethren, we were begged to stay with them seven days. And thus we went to Rome.Where, finding brethren, we were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went to Rome.
Acts 28:15And from thence the brethren, when they heard of us, came to meet us as far as The Market of Appius and The Three Taverns; whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage. And thence the brethren, having heard about us, came to meet us as far as Appii Forum and Tres Tabernae, whom when Paul saw, he thanked God and took courage.And from thence, when the brethren had heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii Forum, and the Three Taverns: whom when Paul saw, he gave thanks to God, and took courage.
Acts 28:16And when we entered into Rome, Paul was suffered to abide by himself with the soldier that guarded him. And when we came to Rome, [the centurion delivered up the prisoners to the praetorian prefect, but] Paul was allowed to remain by himself with the soldier who kept him.And when we were come to Rome, Paul was suffered to dwell by himself, with a soldier that kept him.
Acts 28:17And it came to pass, that after three days he called together those that were the chief of the Jews: and when they were come together, he said unto them, I, brethren, though I had done nothing against the people, or the customs of our fathers, yet was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans: And it came to pass after three days, that he called together those who were the chief of the Jews; and when they had come together he said to them, Brethren, *I* having done nothing against the people or the customs of our forefathers, have been delivered a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,And after the third day, he called together the chief of the Jews. And when they were assembled, he said to them: Men, brethren, I, having done nothing against the people, or the custom of our fathers, was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans;
Acts 28:18who, when they had examined me, desired to set me at liberty, because there was no cause of death in me. who having examined me were minded to let me go, because there was nothing worthy of death in me.Who, when they had examined me, would have released me, for that there was no cause of death in me;
Acts 28:19But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had aught whereof to accuse my nation. But the Jews speaking against it, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar, not as having anything to accuse my nation of.But the Jews contradicting it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had any thing to accuse my nation of.
Acts 28:20For this cause therefore did I entreat you to see and to speak with [me]: for because of the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain. For this cause therefore I have called you to [me] to see and to speak to you; for on account of the hope of Israel I have this chain about me.For this cause therefore I desired to see you, and to speak to you. Because that for the hope of Israel, I am bound with this chain.
Acts 28:21And they said unto him, We neither received letters from Judaea concerning thee, nor did any of the brethren come hither and report or speak any harm of thee. And they said to him, For our part, we have neither received letters from Judaea concerning thee, nor has any one of the brethren who has arrived reported or said anything evil concerning thee.But they said to him: We neither received letters concerning thee from Judea, neither did any of the brethren that came hither, relate or speak any evil of thee.
Acts 28:22But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against. But we beg to hear of thee what thou thinkest, for as concerning this sect it is known to us that it is everywhere spoken against.But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest; for as concerning this sect, we know that it is every where contradicted.
Acts 28:23And when they had appointed him a day, they came to him into his lodging in great number; to whom he expounded [the matter,] testifying the kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning till evening. And having appointed him a day many came to him to the lodging, to whom he expounded, testifying of the kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and the prophets, from early morning to evening.And when they had appointed him a day, there came very many to him unto his lodgings; to whom he expounded, testifying the kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Jesus, out of the law of Moses and the prophets, from morning until evening.
Acts 28:24And some believed the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved. And some were persuaded of the things which were said, but some disbelieved.And some believed the things that were said; but some believed not.
Acts 28:25And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Spirit through Isaiah the prophet unto your fathers, And being disagreed among themselves they left; Paul having spoken one word, Well spoke the Holy Spirit through Esaias the prophet to our fathers,And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, Paul speaking this one word: Well did the Holy Ghost speak to our fathers by Isaias the prophet,
Acts 28:26saying, Go thou unto this people, and say, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive: saying, Go to this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear and not understand, and seeing ye shall see and not perceive.Saying: Go to this people, and say to them: With the ear you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive.
Acts 28:27For this people's heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest, haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I should heal them. For the heart of this people has become fat, and they hear heavily with their ears, and they have closed their eyes; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.For the heart of this people is grown gross, and with their ears have they heard heavily, and their eyes they have shut; lest perhaps they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
Acts 28:28Be it known therefore unto you, that this salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles: they will also hear. Be it known to you therefore, that this salvation of God has been sent to the nations; *they* also will hear [it].Be it known therefore to you, that this salvation of God is sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it.
Acts 28:29[And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, having much disputing among themselves.] [And he having said this, the Jews went away, having great reasoning among themselves.]And when he had said these things, the Jews went out from him, having much reasoning among themselves.
Acts 28:30And he abode two whole years in his own hired dwelling, and received all that went in unto him, And he remained two whole years in his own hired lodging, and received all who came to him,And he remained two whole years in his own hired lodging; and he received all that came in to him,
Acts 28:31preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, none forbidding him. preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, with all freedom unhinderedly.Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, without prohibition.
