Acts 6:1 | Now in these days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a murmuring of the Grecian Jews against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. | But in those days, the disciples multiplying in number, there arose a murmuring of the Hellenists against the Hebrews because their widows were overlooked in the daily ministration. | About this time, as the number of disciples was increasing, complaints were made by the Greek-speaking Jews against the Hebrews because their widows were habitually overlooked in the daily ministration. |
Acts 6:2 | And the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not fit that we should forsake the word of God, and serve tables. | And the twelve, having called the multitude of the disciples to [them], said, It is not right that we, leaving the word of God, should serve tables. | So the Twelve called together the general body of the disciples and said, "It does not seem fitting that we Apostles should neglect the delivery of God's Message and minister at tables. |
Acts 6:3 | Look ye out therefore, brethren, from among you seven men of good report, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. | Look out therefore, brethren, from among yourselves seven men, well reported of, full of [the] [Holy] Spirit and wisdom, whom we will establish over this business: | Therefore, brethren, pick out from among yourselves seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, and we will appoint them to undertake this duty. |
Acts 6:4 | But we will continue stedfastly in prayer, and in the ministry of the word. | but *we* will give ourselves up to prayer and the ministry of the word. | But, as for us, we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the delivery of the Message." |

Acts 6:6 | whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands upon them. | whom they set before the apostles; and, having prayed, they laid their hands on them. | These men they brought to the Apostles, and, after prayer, they laid their hands upon them. |
Acts 6:7 | And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem exceedingly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. | And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem was very greatly multiplied, and a great crowd of the priests obeyed the faith. | Meanwhile God's Message continued to spread, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem very greatly increased, and very many priests obeyed the faith. |
Acts 6:8 | And Stephen, full of grace and power, wrought great wonders and signs among the people. | And Stephen, full of grace and power, wrought wonders and great signs among the people. | And Stephen, full of grace and power, performed great marvels and signs among the people. |
Acts 6:9 | But there arose certain of them that were of the synagogue called [the synagogue] of the Libertines, and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and Asia, disputing with Stephen. | And there arose up certain of those of the synagogue called of freedmen, and of Cyrenians, and of Alexandrians, and of those of Cilicia and Asia, disputing with Stephen. | But some members of the so-called `Synagogue of the Freed-men,' together with some Cyrenaeans, Alexandrians, Cilicians and men from Roman Asia, were roused to encounter Stephen in debate. |
Acts 6:10 | And they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spake. | And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke. | They were quite unable, however, to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke. |
Acts 6:11 | Then they suborned men, who said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and [against] God. | Then they suborned men, saying, We have heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God. | Then they privately put forward men who declared, "We have heard him speak blasphemous things against Moses and against God." |
Acts 6:12 | And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and seized him, and brought him into the council, | And they roused the people, and the elders, and the scribes.
