Luke 3:1Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, Now in the fifteenth year of the government of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and Philip his brother tetrarch of Ituraea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being Governor of Judaea, Herod Tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip Tetrarch of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias Tetrarch of Abilene,
Luke 3:2in the highpriesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, [the] word of God came upon John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.during the High-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, a message from God came to John, the son of Zechariah, in the Desert.
Luke 3:3And he came into all the region round about the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins; And he came into all the district round the Jordan, preaching [the] baptism of repentance for [the] remission of sins,John went into all the district about the Jordan proclaiming a baptism of the penitent for the forgiveness of sins;
Luke 3:4as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight. as it is written in [the] book of [the] words of Esaias the prophet: Voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of [the] Lord, make straight his paths.as it is written in the book of the prophet Isaiah, "The voice of one crying aloud! `In the Desert prepare ye a road for the Lord: make His highway straight.
Luke 3:5Every valley shall be filled, And every mountain and hill shall be brought low; And the crooked shall become straight, And the rough ways smooth; Every gorge shall be filled up, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked [places] shall become a straight [path], and the rough places smooth ways,Every ravine shall be filled up, and every mountain and hill levelled down, the crooked places shall be turned into straight roads, and the rugged ways into smooth;
Luke 3:6And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.and then shall all mankind see God's salvation.'"
Luke 3:7He said therefore to the multitudes that went out to be baptized of him, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? He said therefore to the crowds which went out to be baptised by him, Offspring of vipers, who has forewarned you to flee from the coming wrath?Accordingly John used to say to the crowds who came out to be baptized by him, "O vipers' brood, who has warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
Luke 3:8Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. Produce therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and begin not to say in yourselves, We have Abraham for [our] father, for I say unto you that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.Live lives which shall prove your change of heart; and do not begin to say to yourselves, `We have Abraham as our forefather,' for I tell you that God can raise up descendants for Abraham from these stones.
Luke 3:9And even now the axe also lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. And already also the axe is applied to the root of the trees; every tree therefore not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into [the] fire.And even now the axe is lying at the root of the trees, so that every tree which fails to yield good fruit will quickly be hewn down and thrown into the fire."
Luke 3:10And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then must we do? And the crowds asked him saying, What should we do then?The crowds repeatedly asked him, "What then are we to do?"
Luke 3:11And he answered and said unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise. And he answering says to them, He that has two body-coats, let him give to him that has none; and he that has food, let him do likewise."Let the man who has two coats," he answered, "give one to the man who has none; and let the man who has food share it with others."
Luke 3:12And there came also publicans to be baptized, and they said unto him, Teacher, what must we do? And tax-gatherers came also to be baptised, and they said to him, Teacher, what should we do?There came also a party of tax-gatherers to be baptized, and they asked him, "Rabbi, what are we to do?"
Luke 3:13And he said unto them, Extort no more than that which is appointed you. And he said to them, Take no more [money] than what is appointed to you."Do not exact more than the legal amount," he replied.
Luke 3:14And soldiers also asked him, saying, And we, what must we do? And he said unto them, Extort from no man by violence, neither accuse [any one] wrongfully; and be content with your wages. And persons engaged in military service also asked him saying, And we, what should we do? And he said to them, Oppress no one, nor accuse falsely, and be satisfied with your pay.The soldiers also once and again inquired of him, "And we, what are we to do?" His answer was, "Neither intimidate any one nor lay false charges; and be content with your pay."
Luke 3:15And as the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether haply he were the Christ; But as the people were in expectation, and all were reasoning in their hearts concerning John whether *he* might be the Christ,And while the people were in suspense and all were debating in their minds whether John might possibly be the Anointed One,
Luke 3:16John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and [in] fire: John answered all, saying, *I* indeed baptise you with water, but the mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not fit to unloose; *he* shall baptise you with [the] Holy Spirit and fire;he answered the question by saying to them all, "As for me, I am baptizing you with water, but One mightier than I is coming, whose very sandal-strap I am not worthy to unfasten: He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and with fire.
Luke 3:17whose fan is in his hand, thoroughly to cleanse his threshing-floor, and to gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire. whose winnowing-fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his threshing-floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner, but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.His winnowing-shovel is in His hand to clear out His threshing-floor, and to gather the wheat into His storehouse; but the chaff He will burn up in fire unquenchable."
Luke 3:18With many other exhortations therefore preached he good tidings unto the people; Exhorting then many other things also he announced [his] glad tidings to the people.With many exhortations besides these he declared the Good News to the people.
Luke 3:19but Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother's wife, and for all the evil things which Herod had done, But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him as to Herodias, the wife of his brother, and as to all the wicked things which Herod had done,But Herod the Tetrarch, being repeatedly rebuked by him about Herodias his brother's wife, and about all the wicked deeds that he had done,
Luke 3:20added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison. added this also to all [the rest], that he shut up John in prison.now added this to crown all the rest, that he threw John into prison.
Luke 3:21Now it came to pass, when all the people were baptized, that, Jesus also having been baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, And it came to pass, all the people having been baptised, and Jesus having been baptised and praying, that the heaven was opened,Now when all the people had been baptized, and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the sky opened,
Luke 3:22and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form, as a dove, upon him, and a voice came out of heaven, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form as a dove upon him; and a voice came out of heaven, *Thou* art my beloved Son, in thee I have found my delight.and the Holy Spirit came down in bodily shape, like a dove, upon Him, and a voice came from Heaven, which said, "Thou art My Son, dearly loved: in Thee is My delight."
Luke 3:23And Jesus himself, when he began [to teach], was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the [son] of Heli, And Jesus himself was beginning to be about thirty years old; being as was supposed son of Joseph; of Eli,And He Jesus when He began His ministry, was about thirty years old. He was the son (it was supposed) of Joseph, son of Heli,
