Genesis 32:1And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. Jacob also went on the journey he had begun: and the angels of God met him.And Jacob went on his way; and the angels of God met him.
Genesis 32:2And Jacob said when he saw them, This is God's host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim. And when he saw them, he said: These are the camps of God, and he called the name of that place Mahanaim, that is, Camps.And when Jacob saw them he said, This is the camp of God. And he called the name of that place Mahanaim.
Genesis 32:3And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the field of Edom. And he sent messengers before him to Esau his brother to the land of Seir to the country of Edom:And Jacob sent messengers before his face to Esau his brother, into the land of Seir, the fields of Edom.
Genesis 32:4And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye say unto my lord Esau: Thus saith thy servant Jacob, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed until now: And he commanded them, saying: Thus shall ye speak to my lord Esau: Thus saith thy brother Jacob: I have sojourned with Laban, and have been with him until this day.And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak to my lord, to Esau: Thy servant Jacob speaks thus With Laban have I sojourned and tarried until now;
Genesis 32:5and I have oxen, and asses, [and] flocks, and men-servants, and maid-servants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in thy sight. I have oxen, and asses, and sheep, and menservants, and womenservants: and now I send a message to my lord, that I may find favor in thy sight.and I have oxen, and asses, sheep, and bondmen, and bondwomen; and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favour in thine eyes.
Genesis 32:6And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and moreover he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him. And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying: We came to Esau thy brother, and behold he cometh with speed to meet thee with four hundred men.And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother, to Esau; and he also is coming to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.
Genesis 32:7Then Jacob was greatly afraid and was distressed: and he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks, and the herds, and the camels, into two companies; Then Jacob was greatly afraid; and in his fear divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and the sheep, and the oxen, and the camels, into two companies,Then Jacob was greatly afraid, and was distressed; and he divided the people that were with him, and the sheep and the cattle and the camels, into two troops.
Genesis 32:8and he said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the company which is left shall escape. Saying: If Esau come to one company and destroy it, the other company that is left shall escape.And he said, If Esau come to the one troop and smite it, then the other troop which is left shall escape.
Genesis 32:9And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, O Jehovah, who saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will do thee good: And Jacob said: O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, O Lord, who saidst to me: Return to thy land and to the place of thy birth, and I will do well for thee,And Jacob said, God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, Jehovah, who saidst unto me: Return into thy country and to thy kindred, and I will do thee good,
Genesis 32:10I am not worthy of the least of all the lovingkindnesses, and of all the truth, which thou hast showed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two companies. I am not worthy of the least of all thy mercies, and of thy truth which thou hast fulfilled to thy servant. With my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I return with two companies.I am too small for all the loving-kindness and all the faithfulness that thou hast shewn unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan, and now I am become two troops.
Genesis 32:11Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he come and smite me, the mother with the children. Deliver me from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am greatly afraid of him: lest perhaps he come, and kill the mother with the children.Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he come and smite me, [and] the mother with the children.
Genesis 32:12And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude. Thou didst say that thou wouldst do well by me, and multiply my seed like the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for the multitude.And thou saidst, I will certainly deal well with thee, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
Genesis 32:13And he lodged there that night, and took of that which he had with him a present for Esau his brother: And when he had slept there that night, he set apart, of the things which he had, presents for his brother Esau.And he lodged there that night; and took of what came to his hand a gift for Esau his brother
Genesis 32:14two hundred she-goats and twenty he-goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams, Two hundred she goats, twenty he goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams,two hundred she-goats, and twenty he-goats; two hundred ewes, and twenty rams;
Genesis 32:15thirty milch camels and their colts, forty cows and ten bulls, twenty she-asses and ten foals. Thirty milch camels with their colts, forty kine, and twenty bulls, twenty she asses, and ten of their foals.thirty milch camels with their colts; forty kine, and ten bulls; twenty she-asses, and ten young asses.
Genesis 32:16And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by itself, and said unto his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space betwixt drove and drove. And he sent them by the hands of his servants, every drove by itself, and he said to his servants: Go before me, and let there be a space between drove and drove.And he delivered [them] into the hand of his servants, every drove by itself; and he said to his servants, Go on before me, and put a space between drove and drove.
Genesis 32:17And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee? And he commanded the first, saying: If thou meet my brother Esau, and he ask thee: Whose art thou? or whither goest thou? or whose are these before thee?And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meets thee, and asks thee, saying, Whose art thou, and where goest thou, and whose are these before thee?
Genesis 32:18then thou shalt say [They are] thy servant Jacob's; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, he also is behind us. Thou shalt answer: Thy servant Jacob's: he hath sent them as a present to my lord Esau: and he cometh after us.then thou shalt say, Thy servant Jacob's: it is a gift sent to my lord, to Esau. And behold, he also is behind us.
Genesis 32:19And he commanded also the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him; In like manner he commanded the second and the third, and all that followed with the droves, saying: Speak ye the same words to Esau, when ye find him.And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, According to this word shall ye speak to Esau when ye find him.
Genesis 32:20and ye shall say, Moreover, behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept me. And ye shall add: thy servant Jacob himself also followeth after us: for he said: I will appease him with the presents that go before, and afterwards I will see him, perhaps he will be gracious to me.And, moreover, ye shall say, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will propitiate him with the gift that goes before me, and afterwards I will see his face: perhaps he will accept me.
Genesis 32:21So the present passed over before him: and he himself lodged that night in the company. So the presents went before him, but himself lodged that night in the camp.And the gift went over before him; and he himself lodged that night in the camp.
Genesis 32:22And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two handmaids, and his eleven children, and passed over the ford of the Jabbok. And rising early he took his two wives, and his two handmaids, with his eleven sons, and passed over the ford of Jaboc.And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two maidservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford of the Jabbok;
Genesis 32:23And he took them, and sent them over the stream, and sent over that which he had. And when all things were brought over that belonged to him,and he took them and led them over the river, and led over what he had.
Genesis 32:24And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. He remained alone: and behold a man wrestled with him till morning.And Jacob remained alone; and a man wrestled with him until the rising of the dawn.
Genesis 32:25And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was strained, as he wrestled with him. And when he saw that he could not overcome him, he touched the sinew of his thigh, and forthwith it shrank.And when he saw that he did not prevail against him, he touched the joint of his thigh; and the joint of Jacob's thigh was dislocated as he wrestled with him.
Genesis 32:26And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said to him: Let me go, for it is break of day. He answered: I will not let thee go except thou bless me.And he said, Let me go, for the dawn ariseth. And he said, I will not let thee go except thou bless me.
Genesis 32:27And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said: What is thy name? He answered: Jacob.And he said to him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
Genesis 32:28And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for thou hast striven with God and with men, and hast prevailed. But he said: Thy name shall not be called Jacob, but Israel: for if thou hast been strong against God, how much more shalt thou prevail against men?And he said, Thy name shall not henceforth be called Jacob, but Israel; for thou hast wrestled with God, and with men, and hast prevailed.
Genesis 32:29And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. Jacob asked him, Tell me by what name art thou called? He answered: Why dost thou ask my name? And he blessed him in the same place.And Jacob asked and said, Tell [me], I pray thee, thy name. And he said, How is it that thou askest after my name? And he blessed him there.
Genesis 32:30And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for, [said he], I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. And Jacob called the name of the place Phanuel, saying: I have seen God face to face, and my soul has been saved.And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel For I have seen God face to face, and my life has been preserved.
Genesis 32:31And the sun rose upon him as he passed over Penuel, and he limped upon his thigh. And immediately the sun rose upon him, after he was past Phanuel; but he halted on his foot.And as he passed over Peniel, the sun rose upon him; and he limped upon his hip.
Genesis 32:32Therefore the children of Israel eat not the sinew of the hip which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew of the hip. Therefore the children of Israel, unto this day, eat not the sinew, that shrank in Jacob's thigh: because he touched the sinew of his thigh and it shrank.Therefore the children of Israel do not eat of the sinew that is over the joint of the thigh, to this day; because he touched the joint of Jacob's thigh the sinew.
