| James 3:1 | Be not many [of you] teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive heavier judgment. | Be ye not many masters, my brethren, knowing that you receive the greater judgment. | Be not many teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive greater judgment. |
| James 3:2 | For in many things we all stumble. If any stumbleth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also. | For in many things we all offend. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man. He is able also with a bridle to lead about the whole body. | For we all often offend. If any one offend not in word, *he* [is] a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body too. |
| James 3:3 | Now if we put the horses' bridles into their mouths that they may obey us, we turn about their whole body also. | For if we put bits into the mouths of horses, that they may obey us, and we turn about their whole body. | Behold, we put the bits in the mouths of the horses, that they may obey us, and we turn round their whole bodies. |

Behold, how much wood is kindled by how small a fire! | Even so the tongue is indeed a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold how small a fire kindleth a great wood. | Thus also the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. See how little a fire, how large a wood it kindles! |
| James 3:6 | And the tongue is a fire: the world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell. | And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. | James 3:8 | But the tongue can no man tame; [it is] a restless evil, [it is] full of deadly poison. | But the tongue no man can tame, an unquiet evil, full of deadly poison. | but the tongue can no one among men tame; [it is] an unsettled evil, full of death-bringing poison. |
| James 3:9 | Therewith bless we the Lord and Father; and therewith curse we men, who are made after the likeness of God: | By it we bless God and the Father: and by it we curse men, who are made after the likeness of God. | Therewith bless we the Lord and Father, and therewith curse we men made after [the] likeness of God. |
| James 3:10 | out of the same mouth cometh forth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. | Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. | Out of the same mouth goes forth blessing and cursing. It is not right, my brethren, that these things should be thus. |

| James 3:12 | Can a fig tree, my brethren, yield olives, or a vine figs? Neither [can] salt water yield sweet. | Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear grapes; or the vine, figs? So neither can the salt water yield sweet. | Can, my brethren, a fig produce olives, or a vine figs? Neither [can] salt [water] make sweet water. |
| James 3:13 | Who is wise and understanding among you? let him show by his good life his works in meekness of wisdom. | Who is a wise man, and endued with knowledge among you? Let him shew, by a good conversation, his work in the meekness of wisdom. | Who [is] wise and understanding among you; let him shew out of a good conversation his works in meekness of wisdom; |
| James 3:14 | But if ye have bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, glory not and lie not against the truth. | But if you have bitter zeal, and there be contentions in your hearts; glory not, and be not liars against the truth. | but if ye have bitter emulation and strife in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. |
| James 3:15 | This wisdom is not [a wisdom] that cometh down from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. | For this is not wisdom, descending from above: but earthly, sensual, devilish. | This is not the wisdom which comes down from above, but earthly, natural, devilish. |
| James 3:16 | For where jealousy and faction are, there is confusion and every vile deed. | For where envying and contention is, there is inconstancy, and every evil work. | For where emulation and strife [are], there [is] disorder and every evil thing. |
| James 3:17 | But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without variance, without hypocrisy. | But the wisdom, that is from above, first indeed is chaste, then peaceable, modest, easy to be persuaded, consenting to the good, full of mercy and good fruits, without judging, without dissimulation. | But the wisdom from above first is pure, then peaceful, gentle, yielding, full of mercy and good fruits, unquestioning, unfeigned. |
