Romans 9:1I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience bearing witness with me in the Holy Spirit, And not only she. But when Rebecca also had conceived at once, of Isaac our father.I say [the] truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience bearing witness with me in [the] Holy Spirit,
Romans 9:2that I have great sorrow and unceasing pain in my heart. For when the children were not yet born, nor had done any good or evil (that the purpose of God, according to election, might stand,)that I have great grief and uninterrupted pain in my heart,
Romans 9:3For I could wish that I myself were anathema from Christ for my brethren's sake, my kinsmen according to the flesh: Not of works, but of him that calleth, it was said to her: The elder shall serve the younger.for I have wished, I myself, to be a curse from the Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen, according to flesh;
Romans 9:4who are Israelites; whose is the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service [of God], and the promises; As it is written: Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.who are Israelites; whose [is] the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the law-giving, and the service, and the promises;
Romans 9:5whose are the fathers, and of whom is Christ as concerning the flesh, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. What shall we say then? Is there injustice with God? God forbid.whose [are] the fathers; and of whom, as according to flesh, [is] the Christ, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
Romans 9:6But [it is] not as though the word of God hath come to nought. For they are not all Israel, that are of Israel: For he saith to Moses: I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy; and I will shew mercy to whom I will shew mercy.Not however as though the word of God had failed; for not all [are] Israel which [are] of Israel;
Romans 9:7neither, because they are Abraham's seed, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.nor because they are seed of Abraham [are] all children: but, In Isaac shall a seed be called to thee.
Romans 9:8That is, it is not the children of the flesh that are children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for a seed. For the scripture saith to Pharao: To this purpose have I raised thee, that I may shew my power in thee, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.That is, [they that are] the children of the flesh, these [are] not the children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned as seed.
Romans 9:9For this is a word of promise, According to this season will I come, and Sarah shall have a son. Therefore he hath mercy on whom he will; and whom he will, he hardeneth.For this word [is] of promise, According to this time I will come, and there shall be a son to Sarah.
Romans 9:10And not only so; but Rebecca also having conceived by one, [even] by our father Isaac-- Thou wilt say therefore to me: Why doth he then find fault? for who resisteth his will?And not only [that], but Rebecca having conceived by one, Isaac our father,
Romans 9:11for [the children] being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it: Why hast thou made me thus?[the children] indeed being not yet born, or having done anything good or worthless (that the purpose of God according to election might abide, not of works, but of him that calls),
Romans 9:12it was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. Or hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump, to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?it was said to her, The greater shall serve the less:
Romans 9:13Even as it is written, Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated. What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath, fitted for destruction,according as it is written, I have loved Jacob, and I have hated Esau.
Romans 9:14What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. That he might shew the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he hath prepared unto glory?What shall we say then? [Is there] unrighteousness with God? Far be the thought.
Romans 9:15For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. Even us, whom also he hath called, nor only of the Jews, but also of the Gentiles.For he says to Moses, I will shew mercy to whom I will shew mercy, and I will feel compassion for whom I will feel compassion.
Romans 9:16So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that hath mercy. As in Osee he saith: I will call that which was not my people, my people; and her that was not beloved, beloved; and her that had not obtained mercy, one that hath obtained mercy.So then [it is] not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shews mercy.
Romans 9:17For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, For this very purpose did I raise thee up, that I might show in thee my power, and that my name might be published abroad in all the earth. And it shall be, in the place where it was said unto them, You are not my people; there they shall be called the sons of the living God.For the scripture says to Pharaoh, For this very thing I have raised thee up from amongst [men], that I might thus shew in thee my power, and so that my name should be declared in all the earth.
Romans 9:18So then he hath mercy on whom he will, and whom he will be hardeneth. And Isaias crieth out concerning Israel: If the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved.So then, to whom he will he shews mercy, and whom he will he hardens.
Romans 9:19Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he still find fault? For who withstandeth his will? For he shall finish his word, and cut it short in justice; because a short word shall the Lord make upon the earth.Thou wilt say to me then, Why does he yet find fault? for who resists his purpose?
Romans 9:20Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why didst thou make me thus? And as Isaias foretold: Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been made as Sodom, and we had been like unto Gomorrha.Aye, but thou, O man, who art *thou* that answerest again to God? Shall the thing formed say to him that has formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
Romans 9:21Or hath not the potter a right over the clay, from the same lump to make one part a vessel unto honor, and another unto dishonor? What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who followed not after justice, have attained to justice, even the justice that is of faith.Or has not the potter authority over the clay, out of the same lump to make one vessel to honour, and another to dishonour?
Romans 9:22What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering vessels of wrath fitted unto destruction: But Israel, by following after the law of justice, is not come unto the law of justice.And if God, minded to shew his wrath and to make his power known, endured with much long-suffering vessels of wrath fitted for destruction;
Romans 9:23and that he might make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy, which he afore prepared unto glory, Why so? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were of works. For they stumbled at the stumblingstone.and that he might make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy, which he had before prepared for glory,
Romans 9:24[even] us, whom he also called, not from the Jews only, but also from the Gentiles? As it is written: Behold I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and a rock of scandal; and whosoever believeth in him shall not be confounded.us, whom he has also called, not only from amongst [the] Jews, but also from amongst [the] nations?
Romans 9:25As he saith also in Hosea, I will call that my people, which was not my people; And her beloved, that was not beloved. As he says also in Hosea, I will call not-my-people My people; and the-not-beloved Beloved.
Romans 9:26And it shall be, [that] in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, There shall they be called sons of the living God. And it shall be, in the place where it was said to them, *Ye* [are] not my people, there shall they be called Sons of [the] living God.
Romans 9:27And Isaiah crieth concerning Israel, If the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, it is the remnant that shall be saved: But Esaias cries concerning Israel, Should the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, the remnant shall be saved:
Romans 9:28for the Lord will execute [his] word upon the earth, finishing it and cutting it short. for [he] is bringing the matter to an end, and [cutting [it] short in righteousness; because] a cutting short of the matter will [the] Lord accomplish upon the earth.
Romans 9:29And, as Isaiah hath said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, We had become as Sodom, and had been made like unto Gomorrah. And according as Esaias said before, Unless [the] Lord of hosts had left us a seed, we had been as Sodom, and made like even as Gomorrha.
Romans 9:30What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who followed not after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith: What then shall we say? That [they of the] nations, who did not follow after righteousness, have attained righteousness, but [the] righteousness that is on the principle of faith.
Romans 9:31but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, did not arrive at [that] law. But Israel, pursuing after a law of righteousness, has not attained to [that] law.
Romans 9:32Wherefore? Because [they sought it] not by faith, but as it were by works. They stumbled at the stone of stumbling; Wherefore? Because [it was] not on the principle of faith, but as of works. They have stumbled at the stumblingstone,
Romans 9:33even as it is written, Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence: And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame. according as it is written, Behold, I place in Zion a stone of stumbling and rock of offence: and he that believes on him shall not be ashamed.
