Luke 13:1Now there were some present at that very season who told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. There were present at that season some that told him of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.Just at that time people came to tell Him about the Galilaeans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
Luke 13:2And he answered and said unto them, Think ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they have suffered these things? And Jesus answering, said to them, Suppose ye that these Galileans were sinners above all the Galileans, because they suffered such things?"Do you suppose," He asked in reply, "that those Galilaeans were worse sinners than the mass of the Galilaeans, because this happened to them?
Luke 13:3I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish. I tell you, No; but except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.I tell you, certainly not. On the contrary, if you are not penitent you will all perish as they did.
Luke 13:4Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were offenders above all the men that dwell in Jerusalem? Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?Or those eighteen on whom the tower at Siloam fell, do you suppose they had failed in their duty more than all the rest of the people who live in Jerusalem?
Luke 13:5I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. I tell you, No; but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.I tell you, certainly not. On the contrary, if you do not repent you will all perish just as they did."
Luke 13:6And he spake this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none. He spoke also this parable: A certain man had a fig-tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit on it, and found none.And He gave them the following parable. "A man," He said, "who had a fig-tree growing in his garden came to look for fruit on it and could find none.
Luke 13:7And he said unto the vinedresser, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why doth it also cumber the ground? Then said he to the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig-tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?So he said to the gardener, "`See, this is the third year I have come to look for fruit on this fig-tree and cannot find any. Cut it down. Why should so much ground be actually wasted?'
Luke 13:8And he answering saith unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: And he answering, said to him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:"But the gardener pleaded, "`Leave it, Sir, this year also, till I have dug round it and manured it.
Luke 13:9and if it bear fruit thenceforth, [well]; but if not, thou shalt cut it down. And if it shall bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.If after that it bears fruit, well and good; if it does not, then you shall cut it down.'"
Luke 13:10And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath day. And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.Once He was teaching on the Sabbath in one of the synagogues
Luke 13:11And behold, a woman that had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years; and she was bowed together, and could in no wise lift herself up. And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise raise herself.where a woman was present who for eighteen years had been a confirmed invalid: she was bent double, and was unable to lift herself to her full height.
Luke 13:12And when Jesus saw her, he called her, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thy infirmity.But Jesus saw her, and calling to her, He said to her, "Woman, you are free from your weakness."
Luke 13:13And he laid his hands upon her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.And He put His hands on her, and she immediately stood upright and began to give glory to God.
Luke 13:14And the ruler of the synagogue, being moved with indignation because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, answered and said to the multitude, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the day of the sabbath. And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, and said to the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath.Then the Warden of the Synagogue, indignant that Jesus had cured her on a Sabbath, said to the crowd, "There are six days in the week on which people ought to work. On those days therefore come and get yourselves cured, and not on the Sabbath day."
Luke 13:15But the Lord answered him, and said, Ye hypocrites, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?But the Lord's reply to him was, "Hypocrites, does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his bullock or his ass from the stall and lead him to water?
Luke 13:16And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound, lo, [these] eighteen years, to have been loosed from this bond on the day of the sabbath? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, to be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?And this woman, daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan had bound for no less than eighteen years, was she not to be loosed from this chain because it is the Sabbath day?"
Luke 13:17And as he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame: and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him. And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.When He had said this, all His opponents were ashamed, while the whole multitude was delighted at the many glorious things continually done by Him.
Luke 13:18He said therefore, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I liken it? Then said he, To what is the kingdom of God like? and to what shall I resemble it?This prompted Him to say, "What is the Kingdom of God like? and to what shall I compare it?
Luke 13:19It is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his own garden; and it grew, and became a tree; and the birds of the heaven lodged in the branches thereof. It is like a grain of mustard-seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden, and it grew, and became a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.It is like a mustard seed which a man drops into the soil in his garden, and it grows and becomes a tree in whose branches the birds roost."
Luke 13:20And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? And again he said, To what shall I liken the kingdom of God?And again He said, "To what shall I compare the Kingdom of God?
Luke 13:21It is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened. It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.It is like yeast which a woman takes and buries in a bushel of flour, to work there till the whole is leavened."
Luke 13:22And he went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and journeying on unto Jerusalem. And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying towards Jerusalem.He was passing through town after town and village after village, steadily proceeding towards Jerusalem,
Luke 13:23And one said unto him, Lord, are they few that are saved? And he said unto them, Then said one to him, Lord, are there few that are saved? And he said to them,when some one asked Him, "Sir, are there but few who are to be saved?"
Luke 13:24Strive to enter in by the narrow door: for many, I say unto you, shall seek to enter in, and shall not be able. Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able."Strain every nerve to force your way in through the narrow gate," He answered; "for multitudes, I tell you, will endeavour to find a way in and will not succeed.
Luke 13:25When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, open to us; and he shall answer and say to you, I know you not whence ye are; When once the master of the house hath risen, and hath shut the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us; and he will answer and say to you, I know you not whence ye are:As soon as the Master of the house shall have risen and shut the door, and you have begun to stand outside and knock at the door and say, "`Sir, open the door for us' "`I do not know you,' He answers; `you are no friends of mine.'
Luke 13:26then shall ye begin to say, We did eat and drink in thy presence, and thou didst teach in our streets; Then ye will begin to say, We have eaten and drank in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets."Then you will plead, "`We have eaten and drunk in your company and you have taught in our streets.'
Luke 13:27and he shall say, I tell you, I know not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. But he will say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are: depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity."But He will reply, "`I tell you that you are no friends of mine. Begone from me, all of you, wrongdoers that you are.'
Luke 13:28There shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and yourselves cast forth without. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves excluded."There will be the weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the Prophets in the Kingdom of God, and yourselves being driven far away.
Luke 13:29And they shall come from the east and west, and from the north and south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. And they will come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and will sit down in the kingdom of God.They will come from east and west, from north and south, and will sit down at the banquet in the Kingdom of God.
Luke 13:30And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last. And behold, there are last, who shall be first; and there are first who shall be last.And I tell you that some now last will then be first, and some now first will then be last."
Luke 13:31In that very hour there came certain Pharisees, saying to him, Get thee out, and go hence: for Herod would fain kill thee. The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying to him, Go out, and depart hence; for Herod will kill thee.Just at that time there came some Pharisees who warned Him, saying, "Leave this place and continue your journey; Herod means to kill you."
Luke 13:32And he said unto them, Go and say to that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third [day] I am perfected. And he said to them, Go ye and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons, and I do cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected."Go," He replied, "and take this message to that fox: "`See, to-day and to-morrow I am driving out demons and effecting cures, and on the third day I finish my course.'
Luke 13:33Nevertheless I must go on my way to-day and to-morrow and the [day] following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. Nevertheless, I must walk to-day and to-morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet should perish out of Jerusalem."Yet I must continue my journey to-day and to-morrow and the day following; for it is not conceivable that a Prophet should perish outside of Jerusalem.
Luke 13:34O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen [gathereth] her own brood under her wings, and ye would not! O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent to thee; how often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen gathereth her brood under her wings, and ye would not!O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou who murderest the Prophets and stonest those who have been sent to thee, how often have I desired to gather thy children just as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not come!
Luke 13:35Behold, your house is left unto you [desolate]: and I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Behold, your house is left to you desolate. And verily I say to you, ye shall not see me, until the time shall come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.See, your house is left to you. But I tell you that you will never see me again until you say, `Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!'"
