Luke 3:11 | And he answered and said unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise. | He answereth and saith to them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath provisions, let him do likewise. | "Let the man who has two coats," he answered, "give one to the man who has none; and let the man who has food share it with others." |
Luke 3:12 | And there came also publicans to be baptized, and they said unto him, Teacher, what must we do? | Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said to him, Master, what shall we do? | There came also a party of tax-gatherers to be baptized, and they asked him, "Rabbi, what are we to do?" |
Luke 3:13 | And he said unto them, Extort no more than that which is appointed you. | And he said to them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you. | "Do not exact more than the legal amount," he replied. |
Luke 3:14 | And soldiers also asked him, saying, And we, what must we do? And he said unto them, Extort from no man by violence, neither accuse [any one] wrongfully; and be content with your wages. | And the soldiers likewise asked him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said to them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely, and be content with your wages. | The soldiers also once and again inquired of him, "And we, what are we to do?" His answer was, "Neither intimidate any one nor lay false charges; and be content with your pay." |
Luke 3:15 | And as the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether haply he were the Christ; | And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts concerning John, whether he was the Christ, or not; | And while the people were in suspense and all were debating in their minds whether John might possibly be the Anointed One, |
Luke 3:16 | John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and [in] fire: | John answered, saying to them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire: | he answered the question by saying to them all, "As for me, I am baptizing you with water, but One mightier than I is coming, whose very sandal-strap I am not worthy to unfasten: He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and with fire. |
