| Matthew 16:1 | And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and trying him asked him to show them a sign from heaven. | Here the Pharisees and Sadducees came to Him; and, to make trial of Him, they asked Him to show them a sign in the sky. | And the Pharisees and Sadducees, coming to [him], asked him, tempting [him], to shew them a sign out of heaven. |
| Matthew 16:2 | But he answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, [It will be] fair weather: for the heaven is red. | He replied, "In the evening you say, `It will be fine weather, for the sky is red;' | But he answering said to them, When evening is come, ye say, Fine weather, for the sky is red; |
| Matthew 16:3 | And in the morning, [It will be] foul weather to-day: for the heaven is red and lowering. Ye know how to discern the face of the heaven; but ye cannot [discern] the signs of the times. | and in the morning, `It will be rough weather to-day, for the sky is red and murky.' You learn how to distinguish the aspect of the heavens, but the signs of the times you cannot. | and in the morning, A storm to-day, for the sky is red [and] lowering; ye know [how] to discern the face of the sky, but ye cannot the signs of the times. |
| Matthew 16:4 | An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of Jonah. | Matthew 16:18 | And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. | And I declare to you that you are Peter, and that upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the might of Hades shall not triumph over it. | And *I* also, I say unto thee that *thou* art Peter, and on this rock I will build my assembly, and hades' gates shall not prevail against it. |
