Philemon 1:1Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our beloved and fellow-worker, Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother: To Philemon our dearly-loved fellow labourerPaul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,
Philemon 1:2and to Apphia our sister, and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the church in thy house: and to our sister Apphia and our comrade Archippus as well as to the Church in your house.And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house:
Philemon 1:3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. May grace be granted to you all, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:4I thank my God always, making mention of thee in my prayers, I give continual thanks to my God while making mention of you, my brother, in my prayers,I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,
Philemon 1:5hearing of thy love, and of the faith which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints; because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have towards the Lord Jesus and which you manifest towards all God's people;Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;
Philemon 1:6that the fellowship of thy faith may become effectual, in the knowledge of every good thing which is in you, unto Christ. praying as I do, that their participation in your faith may result in others fully recognizing all the right affection that is in us toward Christ.That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
Philemon 1:7For I had much joy and comfort in thy love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through thee, brother. For I have found great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of God's people have been, and are, refreshed through you, my brother.For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
Philemon 1:8Wherefore, though I have all boldness in Christ to enjoin thee that which is befitting, Therefore, though I might with Christ's authority speak very freely and order you to do what is fitting,Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,
Philemon 1:9yet for love's sake I rather beseech, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now a prisoner also of Christ Jesus: it is for love's sake that instead of that although I am none other than Paul the aged, and am now also a prisoner for Christ Jesus,Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:10I beseech thee for my child, whom I have begotten in my bonds, Onesimus, I entreat you on behalf of my own child whose father I have become while in my chains I mean Onesimus.I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:
Philemon 1:11who once was unprofitable to thee, but now is profitable to thee and to me: Formerly he was useless to you, but now true to his name he is of great use to you and to me.Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:
Philemon 1:12whom I have sent back to thee in his own person, that is, my very heart: I am sending him back to you, though in so doing I send part of myself.Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:
Philemon 1:13whom I would fain have kept with me, that in thy behalf he might minister unto me in the bonds of the gospel: It was my wish to keep him at my side for him to attend to my wants, as your representative, during my imprisonment for the Good News.Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:
Philemon 1:14but without thy mind I would do nothing; that thy goodness should not be as of necessity, but of free will. Only I wished to do nothing without your consent, so that his kind action of yours might not be done under pressure, but might be a voluntary one.But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.
Philemon 1:15For perhaps he was therefore parted [from thee] for a season, that thou shouldest have him for ever; For perhaps it was for this reason he was parted from you for a time, that you might receive him back wholly and for ever yours;For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;
Philemon 1:16no longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much rather to thee, both in the flesh and in the Lord. no longer as a slave, but as something better than a slave a brother peculiarly dear to me, and even dearer to you, both as a servant and as a fellow Christian.Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?
Philemon 1:17If then thou countest me a partner, receive him as myself. If therefore you regard me as a comrade, receive him as if he were I myself.If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.
Philemon 1:18But if he hath wronged thee at all, or oweth [thee] aught, put that to mine account; And if he was ever dishonest or is in your debt, debit me with the amount.If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;
Philemon 1:19I Paul write it with mine own hand, I will repay it: that I say not unto thee that thou owest to me even thine own self besides. I Paul write this with my own hand I will pay you in full. (I say nothing of the fact that you owe me even your own self.)I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.
Philemon 1:20Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my heart in Christ. Yes, brother, do me this favour for the Lord's sake. Refresh my heart in Christ.Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.
Philemon 1:21Having confidence in thine obedience I write unto thee, knowing that thou wilt do even beyond what I say. I write to you in the full confidence that you will meet my wishes, for I know you will do even more than I say.Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
Philemon 1:22But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I hope that through your prayers I shall be granted unto you. And at the same time provide accommodation for me; for I hope that through your prayers I shall be permitted to come to you.But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.
Philemon 1:23Epaphras, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus, saluteth thee; Greetings to you, my brother, from Epaphras my fellow prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus;There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;
Philemon 1:24[and so do] Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow-workers. and from Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.
Philemon 1:25The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with the spirit of every one of you.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
