2nd-John 1:1 | The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not I only, but also all they that know the truth; | The Elder to the elect lady and her children. Truly I love you all, and not I alone, but also all who know the truth, | The elder to the elect lady, and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth; |
2nd-John 1:2 | for the truth's sake which abideth in us, and it shall be with us for ever: | for the sake of the truth which is continually in our hearts and will be with us for ever. | For the truth's sake which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever. |
2nd-John 1:3 | Grace, mercy, peace shall be with us, from God the Father, and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. | Grace, mercy and peace will be with us from God the Father, and from Jesus Christ the Son of the Father, in truth and love. | Grace be with you, mercy, and peace from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. |
2nd-John 1:4 | I rejoice greatly that I have found [certain] of thy children walking in truth, even as we received commandment from the Father. | It is an intense joy to me to have found some of your children living true Christian lives, in obedience to the command which we have received from the Father. | I rejoiced greatly, that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father. |
2nd-John 1:5 | And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote to thee a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. | And now, dear lady, I pray you writing to you, as I do, not a new command, but the one which we have had from the very beginning let us love one another. | And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. |
2nd-John 1:6 | And this is love, that we should walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, even as ye heard from the beginning, that ye should walk in it. | The love of which I am speaking consists in our living in obedience to God's commands. God's command is that you should live in obedience to what you all heard from the very beginning. | And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, that as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. |
2nd-John 1:7 | For many deceivers are gone forth into the world, [even] they that confess not that Jesus Christ cometh in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist. | For many deceivers have gone out into the world men who do not acknowledge Jesus as Christ who has come in human nature. Such a one is `the deceiver' and `the anti-Christ.' | For many deceivers have entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver, and an antichrist. |
2nd-John 1:8 | Look to yourselves, that ye lose not the things which we have wrought, but that ye receive a full reward. | Keep guard over yourselves, so that you may not lose the results of your good deeds, but may receive back a full reward. | Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. |
2nd-John 1:9 | Whosoever goeth onward and abideth not in the teaching of Christ, hath not God: he that abideth in the teaching, the same hath both the Father and the Son. | No one has God, who instead of remaining true to the teaching of Christ, presses on in advance: but he who remains true to that teaching has both the Father and the Son. | Whoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. |
2nd-John 1:10 | If any one cometh unto you, and bringeth not this teaching, receive him not into [your] house, and give him no greeting: | If any one who comes to you does not bring this teaching, do not receive him under your roof nor bid him Farewell. | If any one cometh to you, and bringeth not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither wish him happiness: |
2nd-John 1:11 | for he that giveth him greeting partaketh in his evil works. | He who bids him Farewell is a sharer in his evil deeds. | For he that wisheth him happiness, is partaker of his evil deeds. |
2nd-John 1:12 | Having many things to write unto you, I would not [write them] with paper and ink: but I hope to come unto you, and to speak face to face, that your joy may be made full. | I have a great deal to say to you all, but will not write it with paper and ink. Yet I hope to come to see you and speak face to face, so that your happiness may be complete. | Having many things to write to you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come to you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. |
2nd-John 1:13 | The children of thine elect sister salute thee. | The children of your elect sister send greetings to you. | The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen. |
