Matthew 25:1 | Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. | "Then will the Kingdom of the Heavens be found to be like ten bridesmaids who took their torches and went out to meet the bridegroom. | `Then shall the reign of the heavens be likened to ten virgins, who, having taken their lamps, went forth to meet the bridegroom; |
Matthew 25:2 | And five of them were foolish, and five were wise. | Five of them were foolish and five were wise. | and five of them were prudent, and five foolish; |
Matthew 25:3 | For the foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them: | For the foolish, when they took their torches, did not provide themselves with oil; | they who were foolish having taken their lamps, did not take with themselves oil; |
Matthew 25:4 | but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. | but the wise, besides their torches, took oil in their flasks. | and the prudent took oil in their vessels, with their lamps. |
Matthew 25:5 | Now while the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. | The bridegroom was a long time in coming, so that meanwhile they all became drowsy and fell asleep. | `And the bridegroom tarrying, they all nodded and were sleeping, |
Matthew 25:6 | But at midnight there is a cry, Behold, the bridegroom! Come ye forth to meet him. | But at midnight there is a loud cry, "`The bridegroom! Go out and meet him!' | and in the middle of the night a cry was made, Lo, the bridegroom doth come; go ye forth to meet him. |
Matthew 25:7 | Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. | "Then all those bridesmaids roused themselves and trimmed their torches. | `Then rose all those virgins, and trimmed their lamps, |
Matthew 25:8 | And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out. | "`Give us some of your oil,' said the foolish ones to the wise, `for our torches are going out.' | and the foolish said to the prudent, Give us of your oil, because our lamps are going out; |
Matthew 25:9 | But the wise answered, saying, Peradventure there will not be enough for us and you: go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. | "`But perhaps,' replied the wise, `there will not be enough for all of us. Go to the shops rather, and buy some for yourselves.' | and the prudent answered, saying Lest there may not be sufficient for us and you, go ye rather unto those selling, and buy for yourselves. |
Matthew 25:10 | And while they went away to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage feast: and the door was shut. | "So they went to buy. But meanwhile the bridegroom came; those bridesmaids who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. | `And while they are going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those ready went in with him to the marriage-feasts, and the door was shut; |
Matthew 25:11 | Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. | "Afterwards the other bridesmaids came and cried, "`Sir, Sir, open the door to us.' | and afterwards come also do the rest of the virgins, saying, Sir, sir, open to us; |
Matthew 25:12 | But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. | "`In solemn truth I tell you,' he replied, `I do not know you.' | and he answering said, Verily I say to you, I have not known you. |
Matthew 25:13 | Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour. | "Keep awake therefore; for you know neither the day nor the hour. | `Watch therefore, for ye have not known the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man doth come. |
Matthew 25:14 | For [it is] as [when] a man, going into another country, called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. | "Why, it is like a man who, when going on his travels, called his bondservants and entrusted his property to their care. | `For as a man going abroad did call his own servants, and did deliver to them his substance, |
Matthew 25:15 | And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his several ability; and he went on his journey. | To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one to each according to his individual capacity; and then started from home. | and to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to each according to his several ability, went abroad immediately. |
Matthew 25:16 | Straightway he that received the five talents went and traded with them, and made other five talents. | Without delay the one who had received the five talents went and employed them in business, and gained five more. | `And he who did receive the five talents, having gone, wrought with them, and made other five talents; |
Matthew 25:17 | In like manner he also that [received] the two gained other two. | In the same way he who had the two gained two more. | in like manner also he who [received] the two, he gained, also he, other two; |
Matthew 25:18 | But he that received the one went away and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money. | But the man who had received the one went and dug a hole and buried his master's money. | and he who did receive the one, having gone away, digged in the earth, and hid his lord`s money. |
Matthew 25:19 | Now after a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and maketh a reckoning with them. | "After a long lapse of time the master of those servants returned, and had a reckoning with them. | `And after a long time cometh the lord of those servants, and taketh reckoning with them; |
Matthew 25:20 | And he that received the five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: lo, I have gained other five talents. | The one who had received the five talents came and brought five more, and said, "`Sir, it was five talents that you entrusted to me: see, I have gained five more.' | and he who did receive the five talents having come, brought other five talents, saying, `Sir, five talents thou didst deliver to me; lo, other five talents did I gain besides them. |
Matthew 25:21 | His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord. | "`You have done well, good and trustworthy servant,' replied his master; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.' | `And his lord said to him, Well done, servant, good and faithful, over a few things thou wast faithful, over many things I will set thee; enter into the joy of thy lord. |
Matthew 25:22 | And he also that [received] the two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: lo, I have gained other two talents. | "The second, who had received the two talents, came and said, "`Sir, it was two talents you entrusted to me: see, I have gained two more.' | `And he who also did receive the two talents having come, said, Sir, two talents thou didst deliver to me; lo, other two talents I did gain besides them. |
Matthew 25:23 | His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord. | "`Good and trustworthy servant, you have done well,' his master replied; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.' | `His lord said to him, Well done, servant, good and faithful, over a few things thou wast faithful, over many things I will set thee; enter into the joy of thy lord. |
Matthew 25:24 | And he also that had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering where thou didst not scatter; | "But, next, the man who had the one talent in his keeping came and said, "`Sir, I knew you to be a severe man, reaping where you had not sown and garnering what you had not winnowed. | `And he also who hath received the one talent having come, said, Sir, I knew thee, that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering from whence thou didst not scatter; |
Matthew 25:25 | and I was afraid, and went away and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, thou hast thine own. | So being afraid I went and buried your talent in the ground: there you have what belongs to you.' | and having been afraid, having gone away, I hid thy talent in the earth; lo, thou hast thine own! |
Matthew 25:26 | But his lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I did not scatter; | "`You wicked and slothful servant,' replied his master, `did you know that I reap where I have not sown, and garner what I have not winnowed? | `And his lord answering said to him, Evil servant, and slothful, thou hadst known that I reap where I did not sow, and I gather whence I did not scatter! |
Matthew 25:27 | thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back mine own with interest. | Your duty then was to deposit my money in some bank, and so when I came I should have got back my property with interest. | it behoved thee then to put my money to the money-lenders, and having come I had received mine own with increase. |
Matthew 25:28 | Take ye away therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him that hath the ten talents. | So take away the talent from him, and give it to the man who has the ten.' | `Take therefore from him the talent, and give to him having the ten talents, |
Matthew 25:29 | For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away. | (For to every one who has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him who has nothing, even what he has shall be taken away.) | for to every one having shall be given, and he shall have overabundance, and from him who is not having, even that which he hath shall be taken from him; |
Matthew 25:30 | And cast ye out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. | `But as for this worthless servant, put him out into the darkness outside: *there* will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.' | and the unprofitable servant cast ye forth to the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth. |
Matthew 25:31 | But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory: | "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then will He sit upon His glorious throne, | `And whenever the Son of Man may come in his glory, and all the holy messengers with him, then he shall sit upon a throne of his glory; |
Matthew 25:32 | and before him shall be gathered all the nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats; | and all the nations will be gathered into His presence. And He will separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; | and gathered together before him shall be all the nations, and he shall separate them from one another, as the shepherd doth separate the sheep from the goats, |
Matthew 25:33 | and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. | and will make the sheep stand at His right hand, and the goats at His left. | and he shall set the sheep indeed on his right hand, and the goats on the left. |
Matthew 25:34 | Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: | "Then the King will say to those at His right, "`Come, my Father's blessed ones, receive your inheritance of the Kingdom which has been divinely intended for you ever since the creation of the world. | `Then shall the king say to those on his right hand, Come ye, the blessed of my Father, inherit the reign that hath been prepared for you from the foundation of the world; |
Matthew 25:35 | for I was hungry, and ye gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; | For when I was hungry, you gave me food; when I was thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was homeless, you gave me a welcome; | for I did hunger, and ye gave me to eat; I did thirst, and ye gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and ye received me; |
Matthew 25:36 | naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me. | when I was ill-clad, you clothed me; when I was sick, you visited me; when I was in prison, you came to see me.' | naked, and ye put around me; I was infirm, and ye looked after me; in prison I was, and ye came unto me. |
Matthew 25:37 | Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or athirst, and gave thee drink? | "`When, Lord,' the righteous will reply, `did we see Thee hungry, and feed Thee; or thirsty, and give Thee drink? | `Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungering, and we nourished? or thirsting, and we gave to drink? |
Matthew 25:38 | And when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? | When did we see Thee homeless, and give Thee a welcome? or ill-clad, and clothe Thee? | and when did we see thee a stranger, and we received? or naked, and we put around? |
Matthew 25:39 | And when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? | When did we see Thee sick or in prison, and come to see Thee?' | and when did we see thee infirm, or in prison, and we came unto thee? |
Matthew 25:40 | And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren, [even] these least, ye did it unto me. | "But the King will answer them, "`In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you rendered such services to one of the humblest of these my brethren, you rendered them to myself.' | `And the king answering, shall say to them, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] to one of these my brethren the least to me ye did [it]. |
Matthew 25:41 | Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels: | "Then will He say to those at His left, "`Begone from me, with the curse resting upon you, into the Fire of the Ages, which has been prepared for the Devil and his angels. | Then shall he say also to those on the left hand, Go ye from me, the cursed, to the fire, the age-during, that hath been prepared for the Devil and his messengers; |
Matthew 25:42 | for I was hungry, and ye did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink; | For when I was hungry, you gave me nothing to eat; when thirsty, you gave me nothing to drink; | for I did hunger, and ye gave me not to eat; I did thirst, and ye gave me not to drink; |
Matthew 25:43 | I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. | when homeless, you gave me no welcome; ill-clad, you clothed me not; sick or in prison, you visited me not.' | a stranger I was, and ye did not receive me; naked, and ye put not around me; infirm, and in prison, and ye did not look after me. |
Matthew 25:44 | Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? | "Then will they also answer, "`Lord, when did we see Thee hungry or thirsty or homeless or ill-clad or sick or in prison, and not come to serve Thee?' | `Then shall they answer, they also, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungering, or thirsting, or a stranger, or naked, or infirm, or in prison, and we did not minister to thee? |
Matthew 25:45 | Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not unto one of these least, ye did it not unto me. | "But he will reply, "`In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you withheld such services from one of the humblest of these, you withheld them from me.' | `Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] not to one of these, the least, ye did [it] not to me. |
Matthew 25:46 | And these shall go away into eternal punishment: but the righteous into eternal life. | "And these shall go away into the Punishment of the Ages, but the righteous into the Life of the Ages." | And these shall go away to punishment age-during, but the righteous to life age-during.` |
