Genesis 30:1And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and she said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die. When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister. She said to Jacob, "Give me children, or else I will die."And Rachel, seeing herself without children, envied her sister, and said to her husband: Give me children, otherwise I shall die.
Genesis 30:2And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb? Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel, and he said, "Am I in God's place, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?"And Jacob being angry with her, answered: Am I as God, who hath deprived thee of the fruit of thy womb?
Genesis 30:3And she said, Behold, my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; that she may bear upon my knees, and I also may obtain children by her. She said, "Behold, my maid Bilhah. Go in to her, that she may bear on my knees, and I also may obtain children by her."But she said: I have here my servant Bala: go in unto her, that she may bear upon my knees, and I may have children by her.
Genesis 30:4And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her. She gave him Bilhah her handmaid as wife, and Jacob went in to her.And she gave him Bala in marriage: who,
Genesis 30:5And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son. Bilhah conceived, and bore Jacob a son.When her husband had gone in unto her, conceived and bore a son.
Genesis 30:6And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan. Rachel said, "God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son." Therefore called she his name Dan.And Rachel said: The Lord hath judged for me, and hath heard my voice, giving me a son, and therefore she called his name Dan.
Genesis 30:7And Bilhah Rachel's handmaid conceived again, and bare Jacob a second son. Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid, conceived again, and bore Jacob a second son.And again Bala conceived and bore another,
Genesis 30:8And Rachel said, With mighty wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali. Rachel said, "With mighty wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and have prevailed." She named him Naphtali.For whom Rachel said: God hath compared me with my sister, and I have prevailed: and she called him Nephtali.
Genesis 30:9When Leah saw that she had left off bearing, she took Zilpah her handmaid, and gave her to Jacob to wife. When Leah saw that she had finished bearing, she took Zilpah, her handmaid, and gave her to Jacob as a wife.Lia, perceiving that she had left off bearing, gave Zelpha her handmaid to her husband.
Genesis 30:10And Zilpah Leah's handmaid bare Jacob a son. Zilpah, Leah's handmaid, bore Jacob a son.And when she had conceived and brought forth a son,
Genesis 30:11And Leah said, Fortunate! and she called his name Gad. Leah said, "How fortunate!" She named him Gad.She said: Happily. And therefore called his name Gad.
Genesis 30:12And Zilpah Leah's handmaid bare Jacob a second son. Zilpah, Leah's handmaid, bore Jacob a second son.Zelpha also bore another.
Genesis 30:13And Leah said, Happy am I! for the daughters will call me happy: and she called his name Asher. Leah said, "Happy am I, for the daughters will call me happy." She named him Asher.And Lia said: This is for my happiness: for women will call me blessed. Therefore she called him Aser.
Genesis 30:14And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes. Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his mother, Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, "Please give me some of your son's mandrakes."And Ruben, going out in the time of the wheat harvest into the field, found mandrakes: which he brought to his mother Lia. And Rachel said: Give me part of thy son's mandrakes.
Genesis 30:15And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken away my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to-night for thy son's mandrakes. She said to her, "Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my son's mandrakes, also?" Rachel said, "Therefore he will lie with you tonight for your son's mandrakes."She answered: Dost thou think it a small matter, that thou hast taken my husband from me, unless thou take also my son's mandrakes? Rachel said: He shall sleep with thee this night, for thy son's mandrakes.
Genesis 30:16And Jacob came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for I have surely hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night. Jacob came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, "You must come in to me; for I have surely hired you with my son's mandrakes." He lay with her that night.And when Jacob returned at even from the field, Lia went out to meet him, and said: Thou shalt come in unto me, because I have hired thee for my son's mandrakes. And he slept with her that night.
Genesis 30:17And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob a fifth son. God listened to Leah, and she conceived, and bore Jacob a fifth son.And God heard her prayers: and she conceived and bore the fifth son,
Genesis 30:18And Leah said, God hath given me my hire, because I gave my handmaid to my husband: and she called his name Issachar. Leah said, "God has given me my hire, because I gave my handmaid to my husband." She named him Issachar.And said: God hath given me a reward, because I gave my handmaid to my husband. And she called his name Issachar.
Genesis 30:19And Leah conceived again, and bare a sixth son to Jacob. Leah conceived again, and bore a sixth son to Jacob.And Lia conceived again, and bore the sixth son,
Genesis 30:20And Leah said, God hath endowed me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun. Leah said, "God has endowed me with a good dowry. Now my husband will live with me, because I have borne him six sons." She named him Zebulun.And said: God hath endowed me with a good dowry: this turn also my husband will be with me, because I have borne him six sons: and therefore she called his name Zabulon.
Genesis 30:21And afterwards she bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah. Afterwards, she bore a daughter, and named her Dinah.After whom she bore a daughter, named Diana.
Genesis 30:22And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her, and opened her womb.The Lord also remembering Rachel, heard her, and opened her womb.
Genesis 30:23And she conceived, and bare a son: and said, God hath taken away my reproach: She conceived, bore a son, and said, "God has taken away my reproach.And she conceived, and bore a son, saying: God hath taken my reproach.
Genesis 30:24and she called his name Joseph, saying, Jehovah add to me another son. She named him Joseph, saying, "May Yahweh add another son to me."And she called his name Joseph, saying: The Lord give me also another son.
Genesis 30:25And it came to pass, when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country. It happened, when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said to Laban, "Send me away, that I may go to my own place, and to my country.And when Joseph was born, Jacob said to his father in law: Send me away that I may return into my country, and to my land.
Genesis 30:26Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service wherewith I have served thee. Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, and let me go: for you know my service with which I have served you."Give me my wives, and my children, for whom I have served thee, that I may depart: thou knowest the service that I have rendered thee.
Genesis 30:27And Laban said unto him, If now I have found favor in thine eyes, [tarry]: [for] I have divined that Jehovah hath blessed me for thy sake. Laban said to him, "If now I have found favor in your eyes, stay here, for I have divined that Yahweh has blessed me for your sake."Laban said to him: Let me find favour in thy sight: I have learned by experience, that God hath blessed me for thy sake.
Genesis 30:28And he said, Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it. He said, "Appoint me your wages, and I will give it."Appoint thy wages which I shall give thee.
Genesis 30:29And he said unto him, Thou knowest how I have served thee, and how thy cattle have fared with me. He said to him, "You know how I have served you, and how your cattle have fared with me.But he answered: Thou knowest how I have served thee, and how great thy possession hath been in my hands.
Genesis 30:30For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it hath increased unto a multitude; and Jehovah hath blessed thee whithersoever I turned: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also? For it was little which you had before I came, and it has increased to a multitude. Yahweh has blessed you wherever I turned. Now when will I provide for my own house also?"Thou hadst but little before I came to thee, and now thou art become rich: and the Lord hath blessed thee at my coming. It is reasonable therefore that I should now provide also for my own house.
Genesis 30:31And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me aught: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed thy flock and keep it. He said, "What shall I give you?" Jacob said, "You shall not give me anything. If you will do this thing for me, I will again feed your flock and keep it.And Laban said: What shall I give thee? But he said: I require nothing: but if thou wilt do what I demand, I will feed, and keep thy sheep again.
Genesis 30:32I will pass through all thy flock to-day, removing from thence every speckled and spotted one, and every black one among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and [of such] shall be my hire. I will pass through all your flock today, removing from there every speckled and spotted one, and every black one among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats. This will be my hire.Go round through all thy flocks, and separate all the sheep of divers colours, and speckled: and all that is brown and spotted, and of divers colours, as well among the sheep, as among the goats, shall be my wages.
Genesis 30:33So shall my righteousness answer for me hereafter, when thou shalt come concerning my hire that is before thee: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and black among the sheep, that [if found] with me, shall be counted stolen. So my righteousness will answer for me hereafter, when you come concerning my hire that is before you. Everyone that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and black among the sheep, that might be with me, will be counted stolen."And my justice shall answer for me to morrow before thee when the time of the bargain shall come: and all that is not of divers colours, and spotted, and brown, as well among the sheep as among the goats, shall accuse me of theft.
Genesis 30:34And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to thy word. Laban said, "Behold, I desire it to be according to your word."And Laban said: I like well what thou demandest.
Genesis 30:35And he removed that day the he-goats that were ringstreaked and spotted, and all the she-goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it, and all the black ones among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons; That day, he removed the male goats that were streaked and spotted, and all the female goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it, and all the black ones among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.And he separated the name day the she goats, and the sheep, and the he goats, and the rams of divers colours, and spotted: and all the flock of one colour, that is, of white and black fleece, he delivered into the hands of his sons.
Genesis 30:36and he set three days' journey betwixt himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks. He set three days' journey between himself and Jacob, and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.And he set the space of three days' journey betwixt himself and his son in law, who fed the rest of his flock.
Genesis 30:37And Jacob took him rods of fresh poplar, and of the almond and of the plane-tree. And peeled white streaks in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods. Jacob took to himself rods of fresh poplar, almond, plane-tree, peeled white streaks in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.And Jacob took green robs of poplar, and of almond, and of place trees, and pilled them in part: so when the bark was taken off, in the parts that were pilled, there appeared whiteness: but the parts that were whole remained green: and by this means the colour was divers.
Genesis 30:38And he set the rods which he had peeled over against the flocks in the gutters in the watering-troughs where the flocks came to drink; and they conceived when they came to drink. Genesis 30:41And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger of the flock did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods; It happened, whenever the stronger of the flock conceived, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods;So when the ewes went first to ram, Jacob put the rods in the roughs of water before the eyes of the rams, and of the ewes, that they might conceive while they were looking upon them:
Genesis 30:42but when the flock were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's. but when the flock were feeble, he didn't put them in. So the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's.But when the latter coming was, and the last conceiving, he did not put them. And those that were late ward, become Laban's: and they of the first time, Jacob's.
Genesis 30:43And the man increased exceedingly, and had large flocks, and maid-servants and men-servants, and camels and asses.
