Luke 18:1 | And he spake a parable unto them to the end that they ought always to pray, and not to faint; | He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray, and not give up, | And he spoke also a parable to them, that we ought always to pray, and not to faint, |
Luke 18:2 | saying, There was in a city a judge, who feared not God, and regarded not man: | saying, "A certain judge was in a city, who didn't fear God, and didn't respect man. | Saying: There was a judge in a certain city, who feared not God, nor regarded man. |
Luke 18:3 | and there was a widow in that city; and she came oft unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. | A widow was in that city, and she came often to him, saying, 'Defend me from my adversary!' | And there was a certain widow in that city, and she came to him, saying: Avenge me of my adversary. |
Luke 18:4 | And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; | He wouldn't for a while, but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I don't fear God, nor respect man, | And he would not for a long time. But afterwards he said within himself: Although I fear not God, nor regard man, |
Luke 18:5 | yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest she wear me out by her continual coming. | yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.'" | Yet because this widow is troublesome to me, I will avenge her, lest continually coming she weary me. |
Luke 18:6 | And the Lord said, Hear what the unrighteous judge saith. | The Lord said, "Listen to what the unrighteous judge says. | And the Lord said: Hear what the unjust judge saith. |
Luke 18:7 | And shall not God avenge his elect, that cry to him day and night, and [yet] he is longsuffering over them? | Won't God avenge his elect, who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them? | And will not God revenge his elect who cry to him day and night: and will he have patience in their regard? |
Luke 18:8 | I say unto you, that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? | I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" | I say to you, that he will quickly revenge them. But yet the Son of man, when he cometh, shall he find, think you, faith on earth? |
Luke 18:9 | And he spake also this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and set all others at nought: | He spoke also this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others. | And to some who trusted in themselves as just, and despised others, he spoke also this parable: |
Luke 18:10 | Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. | "Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector. | Two men went up into the temple to pray: the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. |
