Matthew 9:1And he entered into a boat, and crossed over, and came into his own city. And having gone to the boat, he passed over, and came to his own city,Accordingly He went on board, and crossing over came to His own town.
Matthew 9:2And behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, be of good cheer; thy sins are forgiven. and lo, they were bringing to him a paralytic, laid upon a couch, and Jesus having seen their faith, said to the paralytic, `Be of good courage, child, thy sins have been forgiven thee.`Here they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith Jesus said to the paralytic, "Take courage, my child; your sins are pardoned."
Matthew 9:3And behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. And lo, certain of the scribes said within themselves, `This one doth speak evil.`"Such language is impious," said some of the Scribes among themselves.
Matthew 9:4And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? And Jesus, having known their thoughts, said, `Why think ye evil in your hearts?Knowing their thoughts Jesus said, "Why are you cherishing evil thoughts in your hearts?
Matthew 9:5For which is easier, to say, Thy sins are forgiven; or to say, Arise, and walk? for which is easier? to say, The sins have been forgiven to thee; or to say, Rise, and walk?Why, which is easier? to say, `Your sins are pardoned,' or to say `Rise up and walk'?
Matthew 9:6But that ye may know that the Son of man hath authority on earth to forgive sins (then saith he to the sick of the palsy), Arise, and take up thy bed, and go up unto thy house. `But, that ye may know that the Son of Man hath power upon the earth to forgive sins (then saith he to the paralytic) having risen, take up thy couch, and go to thy house.`But, to prove to you that the Son of Man has authority on earth to pardon sins" He then says to the paralytic, "Rise, and take up your bed and go home."
Matthew 9:7And he arose, and departed to his house. And he, having risen, went to his house,And he got up, and went off home.
Matthew 9:8But when the multitudes saw it, they were afraid, and glorified God, who had given such authority unto men. and the multitudes having seen, wondered, and glorified God, who did give such power to men.And the crowds were awe-struck when they saw it, and ascribed the glory to God who had entrusted such power to a man.
Matthew 9:9And as Jesus passed by from thence, he saw a man, called Matthew, sitting at the place of toll: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him. And Jesus passing by thence, saw a man sitting at the tax-office, named Matthew, and saith to him, `Be following me,` and he, having risen, did follow him.Passing on thence Jesus saw a man called Matthew sitting at the Toll Office, and said to him, "Follow me." And he arose, and followed Him.
Matthew 9:10And it came to pass, as he sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. And it came to pass, he reclining (at meat) in the house, that lo, many tax-gatherers and sinners having come, were lying (at meat) with Jesus and his disciples,And while He was reclining at table, a large number of tax-gathers and notorious sinners were of the party with Jesus and His disciples.
Matthew 9:11And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Teacher with the publicans and sinners? and the Pharisees having seen, said to his disciples, `Wherefore with the tax-gatherers and sinners doth your teacher eat?`The Pharisees noticed this, and they inquired of His disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with the tax-gatherers and notorious sinners?"
Matthew 9:12But when he heard it, he said, They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick. And Jesus having heard, said to them, `They who are whole have no need of a physician, but they who are ill;He heard the question and replied, "It is not men in good health who require a doctor, but the sick.
Matthew 9:13But go ye and learn what [this] meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners. but having gone, learn ye what is, Kindness I will, and not sacrifice, for I did not come to call righteous men, but sinners, to reformation.`But go and learn what this means, `It is mercy that I desire, not sacrifice'; for I did not come to appeal to the righteous, but to sinners."
Matthew 9:14Then come to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not? Then come to him do the disciples of John, saying, `Wherefore do we and the Pharisees fast much, and thy disciples fast not?`At that time John's disciples came and asked Jesus, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?"
Matthew 9:15And Jesus said unto them, Can the sons of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then will they fast. And Jesus said to them, `Can the sons of the bride-chamber mourn, so long as the bridegroom is with them? but days shall come when the bridegroom may be taken from them, and then they shall fast."Can the bridegroom's party mourn," He replied, "as long as the bridegroom is with them? But other days will come (when the Bridegroom has been taken from them) and then they will fast.
Matthew 9:16And no man putteth a piece of undressed cloth upon an old garment; for that which should fill it up taketh from the garment, and a worse rent is made. `And no one doth put a patch of undressed cloth on an old garment, for its filling up doth take from the garment, and a worse rent is made.No one ever mends an old cloak with a patch of newly woven cloth. Otherwise, the patch put on would tear away some of the old, and a worse hole would be made.
Matthew 9:17Neither do [men] put new wine into old wine-skins: else the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins perish: but they put new wine into fresh wine-skins, and both are preserved. `Nor do they put new wine into old skins, and if not the skins burst, and the wine doth run out, and the skins are destroyed, but they put new wine into new skins, and both are preserved together.`Nor do people pour new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the skins would split, the wine would escape, and the skins be destroyed. But they put new wine into fresh skins, and both are saved."
Matthew 9:18While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. While he is speaking these things to them, lo, a ruler having come, was bowing to him, saying that `My daughter just now died, but, having come, lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.`While He was thus speaking, a Ruler came up and profoundly bowing said, "My daughter is just dead; but come and put your hand upon her and she will return to life."
Matthew 9:19And Jesus arose, and followed him, and [so did] his disciples. And Jesus having risen, did follow him, also his disciples,And Jesus rose and followed him, as did also His disciples.
Matthew 9:20And behold, a woman, who had an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and lo, a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, having come to him behind, did touch the fringe of his garments,But a woman who for twelve years had been afflicted with haemorrhage came behind Him and touched the tassel of His cloak;
Matthew 9:21for she said within herself, If I do but touch his garment, I shall be made whole. for she said within herself, `If only I may touch his garment, I shall be saved.`for she said to herself, "If I but touch His cloak, I shall be cured."
Matthew 9:22But Jesus turning and seeing her said, Daughter, be of good cheer; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. And Jesus having turned about, and having seen her, said, `Be of good courage, daughter, thy faith hath saved thee,` and the woman was saved from that hour.And Jesus turned and saw her, and said, "Take courage, daughter; your faith has cured you." And the woman was restored to health from that moment.
Matthew 9:23And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the flute-players, and the crowd making a tumult, And Jesus having come to the house of the ruler, and having seen the minstrels and the multitude making tumult,Entering the Ruler's house, Jesus saw the flute-players and the crowd loudly wailing,
Matthew 9:24he said, Give place: for the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. he saith to them, `Withdraw, for the damsel did not die, but doth sleep,` and they were deriding him;and He said, "Go out of the room; the little girl is not dead, but asleep." And they laughed at Him.
Matthew 9:25But when the crowd was put forth, he entered in, and took her by the hand; and the damsel arose. but, when the multitude was put forth, having gone in, he took hold of her hand, and the damsel arose,When however the place was cleared of the crowd, Jesus went in, and on His taking the little girl by the hand, she rose up.
Matthew 9:26And the fame hereof went forth into all that land. and the fame of this went forth to all the land.And the report of this spread throughout all that district.
Matthew 9:27And as Jesus passed by from thence, two blind men followed him, crying out, and saying, Have mercy on us, thou son of David. And Jesus passing on thence, two blind men followed him, calling and saying, `Deal kindly with us, Son of David.`As Jesus passed on, two blind men followed Him, shouting and saying, "Pity us, Son of David."
Matthew 9:28And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They say unto him, Yea, Lord. And he having come to the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus saith to them, `Believe ye that I am able to do this?` They say to him, `Yes, sir.`And when He had gone indoors, they came to Him. "Do you believe that I can do this?" He asked them. "Yes, Sir," they replied.
Matthew 9:29Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it done unto you. Then touched he their eyes, saying, `According to your faith let it be to you,`So He touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith let it be to you."
Matthew 9:30And their eyes were opened. And Jesus strictly charged them, saying, See that no man know it. and their eyes were opened, and Jesus strictly charged them, saying, `See, let no one know;`Then their eyes were opened. And assuming a stern tone Jesus said to them, "Be careful to let no one know."
Matthew 9:31But they went forth, and spread abroad his fame in all that land. but they, having gone forth, did spread his fame in all that land.But they went out and published His fame in all that district.
Matthew 9:32And as they went forth, behold, there was brought to him a dumb man possessed with a demon. And as they are coming forth, lo, they brought to him a man dumb, a demoniac,And as they were leaving His presence a dumb demoniac was brought to Him.
Matthew 9:33And when the demon was cast out, the dumb man spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. and the demon having been cast out, the dumb spake, and the multitude did wonder, saying that `It was never so seen in Israel:`When the demon was expelled, the dumb man could speak. And the crowds exclaimed in astonishment, "Never was such a thing seen in Israel."
Matthew 9:34But the Pharisees said, By the prince of the demons casteth he out demons. but the Pharisees said, `By the ruler of the demons he doth cast out the demons.`But the Pharisees maintained, "It is by the power of the Prince of the demons that he drives out the demons."
Matthew 9:35And Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness. And Jesus was going up and down all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the reign, and healing every sickness and every malady among the people.And Jesus continued His circuits through all the towns and the villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom, and curing every kind of disease and infirmity.
Matthew 9:36But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were distressed and scattered, as sheep not having a shepherd. And having seen the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, that they were faint and cast aside, as sheep not having a shepherd,And when He saw the crowds He was touched with pity for them, because they were distressed and were fainting on the ground like sheep which have no shepherd.
Matthew 9:37Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest indeed is plenteous, but the laborers are few. then saith he to his disciples, `The harvest indeed [is] abundant, but the workmen few;Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is abundant, but the reapers are few;
Matthew 9:38Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth laborers into his harvest. beseech ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he may put forth workmen to His harvest.`therefore entreat the Owner of the Harvest to send out reapers into His fields."
