Matthew 6:1Take care not to do your good works before men, to be seen by them; or you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen of them: else ye have no reward with your Father who is in heaven. "But beware of doing your good actions in the sight of men, in order to attract their gaze; if you do, there is no reward for you with your Father who is in Heaven.
Matthew 6:2When then you give money to the poor, do not make a noise about it, as the false-hearted men do in the Synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory from men. Truly, I say to you, They have their reward.When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward. `When you give in charity, never blow a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and streets in order that their praises may be sung by men. I solemnly tell you that they already have their reward.
Matthew 6:3But when you give money, let not your left hand see what your right hand does:But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: But when you are giving in charity, let not your left hand perceive what your right hand is doing,
Matthew 6:4So that your giving may be in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward.that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee. that your charities may be in secret; and then your Father He who sees in secret will recompense you.
Matthew 6:5And when you make your prayers, be not like the false-hearted men, who take pleasure in getting up and saying their prayers in the Synagogues and at the street turnings so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.And when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward. "And when praying, you must not be like the hypocrites. They are fond of standing and praying in the synagogues or at the corners of the wider streets, in order that men may see them. I solemnly tell you that they already have their reward.
Matthew 6:6But when you make your prayer, go into your private room, and, shutting the door, say a prayer to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward.But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee. But you, whenever you pray, go into your own room and shut the door: then pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father He who sees in secret will recompense you.
Matthew 6:7And in your prayer do not make use of the same words again and again, as the Gentiles do: for they have the idea that God will give attention to them because of the number of their words.And in praying use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. "And when praying, do not use needless repetitions as the Gentiles do, for they expect to be listened to because of their multitude of words.
Matthew 6:8So be not like them; because your Father has knowledge of your needs even before you make your requests to him.Be not therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. Do not, however, imitate them; for your Father knows what things you need before ever you ask Him.
Matthew 6:9Let this then be your prayer: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.After this manner therefore pray ye. Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. "In this manner therefore pray: `Our Father who art in Heaven, may Thy name be kept holy;
Matthew 6:10Let your kingdom come. Let your pleasure be done, as in heaven, so on earth.Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth. let Thy kingdom come; let Thy will be done, as in Heaven so on earth;
Matthew 6:11Give us this day bread for our needs.Give us this day our daily bread. give us to-day our bread for the day;
Matthew 6:12And make us free of our debts, as we have made those free who are in debt to us.And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. and forgive us our shortcomings, as we also have forgiven those who have failed in their duty towards us;
Matthew 6:13And let us not be put to the test, but keep us safe from the Evil One.And bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil [one.] and bring us not into temptation, but rescue us from the Evil one.'
Matthew 6:14For if you let men have forgiveness for their sins, you will have forgiveness from your Father in heaven.For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. "For if you forgive others their offences, your Heavenly Father will forgive you also;
Matthew 6:15But if you do not let men have forgiveness for their sins, you will not have forgiveness from your Father for your sins.But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. but if you do not forgive others their offences, neither will your Father forgive yours.
Matthew 6:16And when you go without food, be not sad-faced as the false-hearted are. For they go about with changed looks, so that men may see that they are going without food. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen of men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward. "When any of you fast, never assume gloomy looks as the hypocrites do; for they disfigure their faces in order that it may be evident to men that they are fasting. I solemnly tell you that they already have their reward.
Matthew 6:17But when you go without food, put oil on your head and make your face clean;But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face; But, whenever you fast, pour perfume on your hair and wash your face,
Matthew 6:18So that no one may see that you are going without food, but your Father in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward.that thou be not seen of men to fast, but of thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall recompense thee. that it may not be apparent to men that you are fasting, but to your Father who is in secret; and your Father He who sees in secret will recompense you.
Matthew 6:19Make no store of wealth for yourselves on earth, where it may be turned to dust by worms and weather, and where thieves may come in by force and take it away.Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal: "Do not lay up stores of wealth for yourselves on earth, where the moth and wear-and-tear destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
Matthew 6:20But make a store for yourselves in heaven, where it will not be turned to dust and where thieves do not come in to take it away:but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: But amass wealth for yourselves in Heaven, where neither the moth nor wear-and-tear destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
Matthew 6:21For where your wealth is, there will your heart be.for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also. For where your wealth is, there also will your heart be.
Matthew 6:22The light of the body is the eye; if then your eye is true, all your body will be full of light.The lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. "The eye is the lamp of the body. If then your eyesight is good, your whole body will be well lighted;
Matthew 6:23But if your eye is evil, all your body will be dark. If then the light which is in you is dark, how dark it will be!But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is the darkness! but if your eyesight is bad, your whole body will be dark. If however the very light within you is darkness, how dense must the darkness be!
Matthew 6:24No man is able to be a servant to two masters: for he will have hate for the one and love for the other, or he will keep to one and have no respect for the other. You may not be servants of God and of wealth.No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. "No man can be the bondservant of two masters; for either he will dislike one and like the other, or he will attach himself to one and think slightingly of the other. You cannot be the bondservants both of God and of gold.
Matthew 6:25So I say to you, Take no thought for your life, about food or drink, or about clothing for your body. Is not life more than food, and the body more than its clothing?Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment? For this reason I charge you not to be over-anxious about your lives, inquiring what you are to eat or what you are to drink, nor yet about your bodies, inquiring what clothes you are to put on. Is not the life more precious than its food, and the body than its clothing?
Matthew 6:26See the birds of heaven; they do not put seeds in the earth, they do not get in grain, or put it in store-houses; and your Father in heaven gives them food. Are you not of much more value than they?Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value then they? Look at the birds which fly in the air: they do not sow or reap or store up in barns, but your Heavenly Father feeds them: are not you of much greater value than they?
Matthew 6:27And which of you by taking thought is able to make himself a cubit taller?And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of his life? Which of you by being over-anxious can add a single foot to his height?
Matthew 6:28And why are you troubled about clothing? See the flowers of the field, how they come up; they do no work, they make no thread:And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And why be anxious about clothing? Learn a lesson from the wild lilies. Watch their growth. They neither toil nor spin,
Matthew 6:29But I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. and yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his magnificence could array himself like one of these.
Matthew 6:30But if God gives such clothing to the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is put into the oven, will he not much more give you clothing, O you of little faith?But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, [shall he] not much more [clothe] you, O ye of little faith? And if God so clothes the wild herbage which to-day flourishes and to-morrow is thrown into the oven, is it not much more certain that He will clothe you, you men of little faith?
Matthew 6:31Then do not be full of care, saying, What are we to have for food or drink? or, With what may we be clothed?Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? Do not be over-anxious, therefore, asking `What shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `What shall we wear?'
Matthew 6:32Because the Gentiles go in search of all these things: for your Father in heaven has knowledge that you have need of all these things:For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. For all these are questions that Gentiles are always asking; but your Heavenly Father knows that you need these things all of them.
Matthew 6:33But let your first care be for his kingdom and his righteousness; and all these other things will be given to you in addition.But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. But make His Kingdom and righteousness your chief aim, and then these things shall all be given you in addition.
Matthew 6:34Then have no care for tomorrow: tomorrow will take care of itself. Take the trouble of the day as it comes.Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Do not be over-anxious, therefore, about to-morrow, for to-morrow will bring its own cares. Enough for each day are its own troubles.
