John 5:1After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. After these things there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. After these things, there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
John 5:2Now in Jerusalem near the sheep-market there is a public bath which in Hebrew is named Beth-zatha. It has five doorways. Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep [gate] a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porches. Now in Jerusalem by the sheep gate, there is a pool, which is called in Hebrew, "Bethesda," having five porches.
John 5:3In these doorways there were a great number of people with different diseases: some unable to see, some without the power of walking, some with wasted bodies.In these lay a multitude of them that were sick, blind, halt, withered, [waiting for the moving of the water.] In these lay a great multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, or paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water;
John 5:4[][for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the waters stepped in was made whole, with whatsoever disease he was holden.] for an angel of the Lord went down at certain times into the pool, and stirred up the water. Whoever stepped in first after the stirring of the water was made whole of whatever disease he was afflicted with.
John 5:5One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. And a certain man was there, who had been thirty and eight years in his infirmity. A certain man was there, who had been sick for thirty-eight years.
John 5:6When Jesus saw him there on the floor it was clear to him that he had been now a long time in that condition, and so he said to the man, Is it your desire to get well? When Jesus saw him lying, and knew that he had been now a long time [in that case], he saith unto him, Wouldest thou be made whole? When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had been sick for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to be made well?"
John 5:7The ill man said in answer, Sir, I have nobody to put me into the bath when the water is moving; and while I am on the way down some other person gets in before me.The sick man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. The sick man answered him, "Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I'm coming, another steps down before me."
John 5:8Jesus said to him, Get up, take your bed and go.Jesus saith unto him, Arise, take up thy bed, and walk. Jesus said to him, "Arise, take up your mat, and walk."
John 5:9And the man became well straight away, and took up his bed and went. Now that day was the Sabbath. And straightway the man was made whole, and took up his bed and walked. Now it was the sabbath on that day. Immediately, the man was made well, and took up his mat and walked. Now it was the Sabbath on that day.
John 5:10So the Jews said to the man who had been made well, It is the Sabbath; and it is against the law for you to take up your bed.So the Jews said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath, and it is not lawful for thee to take up thy bed. So the Jews said to him who was cured, "It is the Sabbath. It is not lawful for you to carry your mat."
John 5:11He said to them, But he who made me well, said to me, Take up your bed and go.But he answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk. He answered them, "He who made me well, the same said to me, 'Take up your mat, and walk.'"
John 5:12Then they put to him the question: Who is the man who said to you, Take it up and go?They asked him, Who is the man that said unto thee, Take up [thy bed], and walk? Then they asked him, "Who is the man who said to you, 'Take up your mat, and walk'?"
John 5:13Now he who had been made well had no knowledge who it was, Jesus having gone away because of the number of people who were in that place. But he that was healed knew not who it was; for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in the place. But he who was healed didn't know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a crowd being in the place.
John 5:14After a time Jesus came across him in the Temple and said to him, See, you are well and strong; do no more sin for fear a worse thing comes to you.Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing befall thee. Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, "Behold, you are made well. Sin no more, so that nothing worse happens to you."
John 5:15The man went away and said to the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole. The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.
John 5:16And for this reason the Jews were turned against Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath. And for this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath. For this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill him, because he did these things on the Sabbath.
John 5:17But his answer was: My Father is still working even now, and so I am working. But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh even until now, and I work. But Jesus answered them, "My Father is still working, so I am working, too."
John 5:18For this cause the Jews had an even greater desire to put Jesus to death, because not only did he not keep the Sabbath but he said God was his Father, so making himself equal with God.For this cause therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only brake the sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God. For this cause therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
John 5:19So Jesus made answer and said, Truly I say to you, The Son is not able to do anything himself; he is able to do only what he sees the Father doing; whatever the Father does the Son does it in the same way.Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father doing: for what things soever he doeth, these the Son also doeth in like manner. Jesus therefore answered them, "Most assuredly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father doing. For whatever things he does, these the Son also does likewise.
John 5:20For the Father has love for the Son and lets him see everything which he does: and he will let him see greater works than these so that you may be full of wonder. For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that himself doeth: and greater works than these will he show him, that ye may marvel. For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does. He will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel.
John 5:21In the same way, as the Father gives life to the dead, even so the Son gives life to those to whom he is pleased to give it.For as the Father raiseth the dead and giveth them life, even so the Son also giveth life to whom he will. For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom he desires.
John 5:22The Father is not the judge of men, but he has given all decisions into the hands of the Son;For neither doth the Father judge any man, but he hath given all judgment unto the Son; For neither does the Father judge any man, but he has given all judgment to the Son,
John 5:23So that all men may give honour to the Son even as they give honour to the Father. He who gives no honour to the Son gives no honour to the Father who sent him.that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father that sent him. that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He who doesn't honor the Son doesn't honor the Father who sent him.
John 5:24Truly I say to you, The man whose ears are open to my word and who has faith in him who sent me, has eternal life; he will not be judged, but has come from death into life.Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgment, but hath passed out of death into life. Most assuredly I tell you, he who hears my word, and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and doesn't come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
John 5:25Truly I say to you, The time is coming, it has even now come, when the voice of the Son of God will come to the ears of the dead, and those hearing it will have life.Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live. Most assuredly, I tell you, the hour comes, and now is, when the dead will hear the Son of God's voice; and those who hear will live.
John 5:26For even as the Father has life in himself, so he has given to the Son to have life in himself. For as the Father hath life in himself, even so gave he to the Son also to have life in himself: For as the Father has life in himself, even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself.
John 5:27And he has given him authority to be judge because he is the Son of man.and he gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man. He also gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.
John 5:28Do not be surprised at this: for the time is coming when his voice will come to all who are in the place of the dead,Marvel not at this: for the hour cometh, in which all that are in the tombs shall hear his voice, Don't marvel at this, for the hour comes, in which all that are in the tombs will hear his voice,
John 5:29And they will come out; those who have done good, into the new life; and those who have done evil, to be judged.and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment. and will come forth; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.
John 5:30Of myself I am unable to do anything: as the voice comes to me so I give a decision: and my decision is right because I have no desire to do what is pleasing to myself, but only what is pleasing to him who sent me.I can of myself do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is righteous; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. I can of myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous; because I don't seek my own will, but the will of my Father who sent me.
John 5:31If I gave witness about myself, my witness would not be true.If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. "If I testify about myself, my witness is not valid.
John 5:32There is another who gives witness about me and I am certain that the witness he gives about me is true.It is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true. It is another who testifies about me. I know that the testimony which he testifies about me is true.
John 5:33You sent to John and he gave true witness.Ye have sent unto John, and he hath borne witness unto the truth. You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.
John 5:34But I have no need of a man's witness: I only say these things so that you may have salvation. But the witness which I receive is not from man: howbeit I say these things, that ye may be saved. But the testimony which I receive is not from man. However, I say these things that you may be saved.
John 5:35He was a burning and shining light, and for a time you were ready to be happy in his light. He was the lamp that burneth and shineth; and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light. He was the lamp that burns and shines, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.
John 5:36But the witness which I have is greater than that of John: the work which the Father has given me to do, the very work which I am now doing, is a witness that the Father has sent me.But the witness which I have is greater than [that of] John; for the works which the Father hath given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John, for the works which the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, testify about me, that the Father has sent me.
John 5:37And the Father himself who sent me has given witness about me. Not one of you has ever given ear to his voice; his form you have not seen. And the Father that sent me, he hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form. The Father himself, who sent me, has testified about me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.
John 5:38And you have not kept his word in your hearts, because you have not faith in him whom he has sent. And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he sent, him ye believe not. You don't have his word living in you; for whom he sent, him you don't believe.
John 5:39You make search in the holy Writings, in the belief that through them you get eternal life; and it is those Writings which give witness about me.Ye search the scriptures, because ye think that in them ye have eternal life; and these are they which bear witness of me; You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are they which testify about me.
John 5:40And still you have no desire to come to me so that you may have life.and ye will not come to me, that ye may have life. Yet you will not come to me, that you may have life.
John 5:41I do not take honour from men;I receive not glory from men. I don't receive glory from men.
John 5:42But I have knowledge of you that you have no love for God in your hearts. But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in yourselves. But I know you, that you don't have God's love in yourselves.
John 5:43I have come in my Father's name, and your hearts are not open to me. If another comes with no other authority but himself, you will give him your approval.I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. I have come in my Father's name, and you don't receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him.
John 5:44How is it possible for you to have faith while you take honour one from another and have no desire for the honour which comes from the only God?How can ye believe, who receive glory one of another, and the glory that [cometh] from the only God ye seek not? How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you don't seek the glory that comes from the only God?
John 5:45Put out of your minds the thought that I will say things against you to the Father: the one who says things against you is Moses, on whom you put your hopes.Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, [even] Moses, on whom ye have set your hope. "Don't think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you, even Moses, on whom you have set your hope.
John 5:46If you had belief in Moses you would have belief in me; for his writings are about me.For if ye believed Moses, ye would believe me; for he wrote of me. For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote about me.
John 5:47If you have no belief in his writings, how will you have belief in my words? But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? But if you don't believe his writings, how will you believe my words?"
