Hebrews 8:1Now of the things we are saying this is the chief point: We have such a high priest, who has taken his place at the right hand of God's high seat of glory in heaven,Now a summary of the things of which we are speaking [is], We have such a one high priest who has sat down on [the] right hand of the throne of the greatness in the heavens; Now of the things which we have spoken, this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of majesty in the heavens,
Hebrews 8:2As a servant of the holy things and of the true Tent, which was put up by God, not by man.minister of the holy places and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord has pitched, [and] not man.A minister of the holies, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord hath pitched, and not man.
Hebrews 8:3Now every high priest is given authority to take to God the things which are given and to make offerings; so that it is necessary for this man, like them, to have something for an offering. For every high priest is constituted for the offering both of gifts and sacrifices; whence it is needful that this one also should have something which he may offer. For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is necessary that he also should have some thing to offer.
Hebrews 8:4If he had been on earth he would not have been a priest at all, because there are other priests who make the offerings ordered by the law;If then indeed he were upon earth, he would not even be a priest, there being those who offer the gifts according to the law,If then he were on earth, he would not be a priest: seeing that there would be others to offer gifts according to the law,
Hebrews 8:5Being servants of that which is a copy and an image of the things in heaven, as Moses, when he was about to make the Tent, had special orders from God: for, See, he said, that you make everything like the design which you saw in the mountain.(who serve the representation and shadow of heavenly things, according as Moses was oracularly told [when] about to make the tabernacle; for See, saith He, that thou make all things according to the pattern which has been shewn to thee in the mountain.)Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things. As it was answered to Moses, when he was to finish the tabernacle: See (saith he) that thou make all things according to the pattern which was shewn thee on the mount.
Hebrews 8:6But now his position as priest is higher. because through him God has made a better agreement with man, based on the giving of better things. But now he has got a more excellent ministry, by so much as he is mediator of a better covenant, which is established on the footing of better promises. But now he hath obtained a better ministry, by how much also he is a mediator of a better testament, which is established on better promises.
Hebrews 8:7For if that first agreement had been as good as possible, there would have been no place for a second. For if that first was faultless, place had not been sought for a second. For if that former had been faultless, there should not indeed a place have been sought for a second.
Hebrews 8:8For, protesting against them, he says, See, the days are coming when I will make a new agreement with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah; For finding fault, he says to them, Behold, days come, saith the Lord, and I will consummate a new covenant as regards the house of Israel, and as regards the house of Juda; For finding fault with them, he saith: Behold, the days shall come, saith the Lord: and I will perfect unto the house of Israel, and unto the house of Juda, a new testament:
Hebrews 8:9Not like the agreement which I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand, to be their guide out of the land of Egypt; for they did not keep the agreement with me, and I gave them up, says the Lord.not according to the covenant which I made to their fathers in [the] day of my taking their hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because *they* did not continue in my covenant, and *I* did not regard them, saith [the] Lord. Not according to the testament which I made to their fathers, on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt: because they continued not in my testament: and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
Hebrews 8:10For this is the agreement which I will make with the people of Israel after those days: I will put my laws into their minds, writing them in their hearts: and I will be their God, and they will be my people:Because this [is] the covenant that I will covenant to the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord: Giving my laws into their mind, I will write them also upon their hearts; and I will be to them for God, and *they* shall be to me for people. For this is the testament which I will make to the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord: I will give my laws into their mind, and in their heart will I write them: and I will be their God, and they shall be my people:
Hebrews 8:11And there will be no need for every man to be teaching his brother, or his neighbour, saying, This is the knowledge of the Lord: for they will all have knowledge of me, great and small. And they shall not teach each his fellow-citizen, and each his brother, saying, Know the Lord; because all shall know me in themselves, from [the] little one [among them] unto [the] great among them. And they shall not teach every man his neighbour and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me from the least to the greatest of them:
Hebrews 8:12And I will have mercy on their evil-doing, and I will not keep their sins in mind.Because I will be merciful to their unrighteousnesses, and their sins and their lawlessnesses I will never remember any more.Because I will be merciful to their iniquities, and their sins I will remember no more.
Hebrews 8:13When he says, A new agreement, he has made the first agreement old. But anything which is getting old and past use will not be seen much longer. In that he says New, he has made the first old; but that which grows old and aged [is] near disappearing. Now in saying a new, he hath made the former old. And that which decayeth and groweth old, is near its end.
