Romans 9:1I say what is true in Christ, and not what is false, my mind giving witness with me in the Holy Spirit,I say [the] truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience bearing witness with me in [the] Holy Spirit,And not only she. But when Rebecca also had conceived at once, of Isaac our father.
Romans 9:2That I am full of sorrow and pain without end.that I have great grief and uninterrupted pain in my heart,For when the children were not yet born, nor had done any good or evil (that the purpose of God, according to election, might stand,)
Romans 9:3For I have a desire to take on myself the curse for my brothers, my family in the flesh:for I have wished, I myself, to be a curse from the Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen, according to flesh; Not of works, but of him that calleth, it was said to her: The elder shall serve the younger.
Romans 9:4Who are Israelites: who have the place of sons, and the glory, and the agreements with God, and the giving of the law, and the worship, and the hope offered by God:who are Israelites; whose [is] the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the law-giving, and the service, and the promises; As it is written: Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.
Romans 9:5Whose are the fathers, and of whom came Christ in the flesh, who is over all, God, to whom be blessing for ever. So be it.whose [are] the fathers; and of whom, as according to flesh, [is] the Christ, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. What shall we say then? Is there injustice with God? God forbid.
Romans 9:6But it is not as if the word of God was without effect. For they are not all Israel, who are of Israel:Not however as though the word of God had failed; for not all [are] Israel which [are] of Israel; For he saith to Moses: I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy; and I will shew mercy to whom I will shew mercy.
Romans 9:7And they are not all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, In Isaac will your seed be named.nor because they are seed of Abraham [are] all children: but, In Isaac shall a seed be called to thee.So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
Romans 9:8That is, it is not the children of the flesh, but the children of God's undertaking, who are named as the seed. That is, [they that are] the children of the flesh, these [are] not the children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned as seed. For the scripture saith to Pharao: To this purpose have I raised thee, that I may shew my power in thee, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.
Romans 9:9For this is the word of God's undertaking, At this time will I come, and Sarah will have a son.For this word [is] of promise, According to this time I will come, and there shall be a son to Sarah. Therefore he hath mercy on whom he will; and whom he will, he hardeneth.
Romans 9:10And not only so, but Rebecca being about to have a child by our father IsaacAnd not only [that], but Rebecca having conceived by one, Isaac our father,Thou wilt say therefore to me: Why doth he then find fault? for who resisteth his will?
Romans 9:11Before the children had come into existence, or had done anything good or bad, in order that God's purpose and his selection might be effected, not by works, but by him whose purpose it is,[the children] indeed being not yet born, or having done anything good or worthless (that the purpose of God according to election might abide, not of works, but of him that calls),O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it: Why hast thou made me thus?
Romans 9:12It was said to her, The older will be the servant of the younger.it was said to her, The greater shall serve the less:Or hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump, to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
Romans 9:13Even as it is said, I had love for Jacob, but for Esau I had hate.according as it is written, I have loved Jacob, and I have hated Esau. What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath, fitted for destruction,
Romans 9:14What may we say then? is God not upright? let it not be said. What shall we say then? [Is there] unrighteousness with God? Far be the thought. That he might shew the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he hath prepared unto glory?
Romans 9:15For he says to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and pity on whom I will have pity. For he says to Moses, I will shew mercy to whom I will shew mercy, and I will feel compassion for whom I will feel compassion.Even us, whom also he hath called, nor only of the Jews, but also of the Gentiles.
Romans 9:16So then, it is not by the desire or by the attempt of man, but by the mercy of God.So then [it is] not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shews mercy. As in Osee he saith: I will call that which was not my people, my people; and her that was not beloved, beloved; and her that had not obtained mercy, one that hath obtained mercy.
Romans 9:17For the holy Writings say to Pharaoh, For this same purpose did I put you on high, so that I might make my power seen in you, and that there might be knowledge of my name through all the earth. For the scripture says to Pharaoh, For this very thing I have raised thee up from amongst [men], that I might thus shew in thee my power, and so that my name should be declared in all the earth. And it shall be, in the place where it was said unto them, You are not my people; there they shall be called the sons of the living God.
Romans 9:18So then, at his pleasure he has mercy on a man, and at his pleasure he makes the heart hard.So then, to whom he will he shews mercy, and whom he will he hardens. And Isaias crieth out concerning Israel: If the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved.
Romans 9:19But you will say to me, Why does he still make us responsible? who is able to go against his purpose?Thou wilt say to me then, Why does he yet find fault? for who resists his purpose? For he shall finish his word, and cut it short in justice; because a short word shall the Lord make upon the earth.
Romans 9:20But, O man, who are you, to make answer against God? May the thing which is made say to him who made it, Why did you make me so?Aye, but thou, O man, who art *thou* that answerest again to God? Shall the thing formed say to him that has formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? And as Isaias foretold: Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been made as Sodom, and we had been like unto Gomorrha.
Romans 9:21Or has not the potter the right to make out of one part of his earth a vessel for honour, and out of another a vessel for shame?Or has not the potter authority over the clay, out of the same lump to make one vessel to honour, and another to dishonour? What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who followed not after justice, have attained to justice, even the justice that is of faith.
Romans 9:22What if God, desiring to let his wrath and his power be seen, for a long time put up with the vessels of wrath which were ready for destruction:And if God, minded to shew his wrath and to make his power known, endured with much long-suffering vessels of wrath fitted for destruction; But Israel, by following after the law of justice, is not come unto the law of justice.
Romans 9:23And to make clear the wealth of his glory to vessels of mercy, which he had before made ready for glory, and that he might make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy, which he had before prepared for glory,Why so? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were of works. For they stumbled at the stumblingstone.
Romans 9:24Even us, who were marked out by him, not only from the Jews, but from the Gentiles?us, whom he has also called, not only from amongst [the] Jews, but also from amongst [the] nations? As it is written: Behold I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and a rock of scandal; and whosoever believeth in him shall not be confounded.
Romans 9:25As he says in Hosea, They will be named my people who were not my people, and she will be loved who was not loved. As he says also in Hosea, I will call not-my-people My people; and the-not-beloved Beloved.
Romans 9:26And in the place where it was said to them, You are not my people, there they will be named the sons of the living God.And it shall be, in the place where it was said to them, *Ye* [are] not my people, there shall they be called Sons of [the] living God.
Romans 9:27And Isaiah says about Israel, Even if the number of the children of Israel is as the sand of the sea, only a small part will get salvation:But Esaias cries concerning Israel, Should the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, the remnant shall be saved:
Romans 9:28For the Lord will give effect to his word on the earth, putting an end to it and cutting it short.for [he] is bringing the matter to an end, and [cutting [it] short in righteousness; because] a cutting short of the matter will [the] Lord accomplish upon the earth.
Romans 9:29And, as Isaiah had said before, If the Lord of armies had not given us a seed, we would have been like Sodom and Gomorrah. And according as Esaias said before, Unless [the] Lord of hosts had left us a seed, we had been as Sodom, and made like even as Gomorrha.
Romans 9:30What then may we say? That the nations who did not go after righteousness have got righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith:What then shall we say? That [they of the] nations, who did not follow after righteousness, have attained righteousness, but [the] righteousness that is on the principle of faith.
Romans 9:31But Israel, going after a law of righteousness, did not get it.But Israel, pursuing after a law of righteousness, has not attained to [that] law.
Romans 9:32Why? Because they were not searching for it by faith, but by works. They came up against the stone which was in the way;Wherefore? Because [it was] not on the principle of faith, but as of works. They have stumbled at the stumblingstone,
Romans 9:33As it is said, See, I am putting in Zion a stone causing a fall, and a rock in the way: but he who has faith in him will not be put to shame.according as it is written, Behold, I place in Zion a stone of stumbling and rock of offence: and he that believes on him shall not be ashamed.
