1st-Peter 5:1 | I who am myself one of the rulers of the church, and a witness of the death of Christ, having my part in the coming glory, send this serious request to the chief men among you: | The elders which [are] among you I exhort, who [am their] fellow-elder and witness of the sufferings of the Christ, who also [am] partaker of the glory about to be revealed: | So I exhort the Elders among you I who am their fellow Elder and have been an eye-witness of the sufferings of the Christ, and am also a sharer in the glory which is soon to be revealed. |
1st-Peter 5:2 | Keep watch over the flock of God which is in your care, using your authority, not as forced to do so, but gladly; and not for unclean profit but with a ready mind; | shepherd the flock of God which [is] among you, exercising oversight, not by necessity, but willingly; not for base gain, but readily; | Be shepherds of God's flock which is among you. Exercise the oversight not reluctantly but eagerly, in accordance with the will of God; not for base gain but with cheerful minds; |
1st-Peter 5:3 | Not as lords over God's heritage, but making yourselves examples to the flock. | not as lording it over your possessions, but being models for the flock. | not lording it over your Churches but proving yourselves patterns for the flock to imitate. |
1st-Peter 5:4 | And at the coming of the chief Keeper of the sheep, you will be given the eternal crown of glory. | And when the chief shepherd is manifested ye shall receive the unfading crown of glory. | And then, when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the never-withering wreath of glory. |
1st-Peter 5:5 | And in the same way, let the younger men be ruled by the older ones. Let all of you put away pride and make yourselves ready to be servants: for God is a hater of pride, but he gives grace to those who make themselves low. | Likewise [ye] younger, be subject to [the] elder, and all of you bind on humility towards one another; for God sets himself against [the] proud, but to [the] humble gives grace. | In the same way you younger men must submit to your elders; and all of you must gird yourselves with humility towards one another, for God sets Himself against the proud, but gives grace to the humble. |
1st-Peter 5:6 | For this cause make yourselves low under the strong hand of God, so that when the time comes you may be lifted up; | Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in [the due] time; | Humble yourselves therefore beneath the mighty hand of God, so that at the right time He may set you on high. |
1st-Peter 5:7 | Putting all your troubles on him, for he takes care of you. | having cast all your care upon him, for he cares about you. | Throw the whole of your anxiety upon Him, because He Himself cares for you. |
1st-Peter 5:8 | Be serious and keep watch; the Evil One, who is against you, goes about like a lion with open mouth in search of food; | Be vigilant, watch. Your adversary [the] devil as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour. | Curb every passion, and be on the alert. Your great accuser, the Devil, is going about like a roaring lion to see whom he can devour. |
1st-Peter 5:9 | Do not give way to him but be strong in your faith, in the knowledge that your brothers who are in the world undergo the same troubles. | Whom resist, stedfast in faith, knowing that the selfsame sufferings are accomplished in your brotherhood which [is] in [the] world. | Withstand him, firm in your faith; knowing that your brethren in other parts of the world are passing through just the same experiences. |
1st-Peter 5:10 | And after you have undergone pain for a little time, the God of all grace who has given you a part in his eternal glory through Christ Jesus, will himself give you strength and support, and make you complete in every good thing; | But the God of all grace who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, when ye have suffered for a little while, himself shall make perfect, stablish, strengthen, ground: | And God, the giver of all grace, who has called you to share His eternal glory, through Christ, after you have suffered for a short time, will Himself make you perfect, firm, and strong. |
1st-Peter 5:11 | His is the power for ever. So be it. | to him [be] the glory and the might for the ages of the ages. Amen. | To Him be all power unto the Ages of the Ages! Amen. |
1st-Peter 5:12 | I have sent you this short letter by Silvanus, a true brother, in my opinion; comforting you and witnessing that this is the true grace of God; keep to it. | By Silvanus, the faithful brother, as I suppose, I have written to you briefly; exhorting and testifying that this is [the] true grace of God in which ye stand. | I send this short letter by Silas, our faithful brother for such I regard him in order to encourage you, and to bear witness that what I have told you is the true grace of God. In it stand fast. |
1st-Peter 5:13 | She who is in Babylon, who has a part with you in the purpose of God, sends you her love; and so does my son Mark. | She that is elected with [you] in Babylon salutes you, and Marcus my son. | The Church in Babylon, chosen like yourselves by God, sends greetings, and so does Mark my son. |
1st-Peter 5:14 | Give one another the kiss of love. Peace be to you all in Christ. | Salute one another with a kiss of love. Peace be with you all who [are] in Christ. | Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be with all of you who are in Christ. |
